To directly investigate the dynamic nanoscale phenomenon on the surface being processed in wet conditions such as precision polishing, and cleaning in semiconductor industrial, an optical method for visualization and observation of each sub-100 nm sized particle that is moving on an interface such as a silica glass surface by applying an evanescent field have been proposing. Subsequently, we developed an experimental apparatus equipped with an optical microscopy system for verifying the moving particle observation method in a laboratory scale. This article introduces some experimentally direct observation results of duplicated wet processes. © 2024 IEEE.

While the advent of the Fourth industrial Revolution (4IR) technologies, like cloud computing, machine learning, and artificial intelligence have brought convenience and productivity improvements, they have also introduced new challenges in training and education that require the reskilling of existing employees and the building of a new workforce. Exacerbated by the already existing workforce shortages, this mammoth workforce reskilling and building effort aims to build a high-tech workforce capable of operating and maintaining these 4IR systems;requiring a higher student retention and persistence. This increase in student retention and persistence will be especially critical when training the workforce originating from marginalized communities like Underrepresented Minorities (URM), where challenges arise due to lack of access to high-quality education throughout the trainee’s formative years (pre/middle/high schools), creating a cyclic set of knowledge dependencies that are difficult to meet. To address these challenges, this research presents Generative AI-based Personalized Tutor for industrial 4.0 (gAI-PT4I4), a framework that focuses on personalization of 4IR experiential learning, using sentiment analysis to gauge student’s knowledge comprehension, while using a combination of generative AI and finite automaton to personalize the content to the students’ learning needs. The framework administers experiential learning, using low-fidelity Digital Twins that enable virtual reality-based (VR) training exercises focusing on 4IR training. The VR environment, integrates a generative AI teaching assistant called the Interactive Tutor, that guides the student through the training exercises, with audio and text communications. The gAI-PT4I4 uses these audio/text communications between the tutor and the trainee to perform sentiment analysis using a novel zero-shot learning pipeline, that uses Large Language Models (LLMs), with prompt engineering to evaluate student sen

The widespread deployment of ‘Smart’ Infrastructure, which uses networked computing systems to manage physical processes, has brought the onset of the fourth industrial Revolution (4IR). The 4IR relies on network interconnectivity, sensing, automation, robotics, and artificial intelligence to improve the productivity of modern manufacturing environments while reducing their workforce needs. Although beneficial, this growing adoption of 4IR has increased the complexity of industrial Control systems (ICS), creating a huge workforce skills gap and causing 2.1 million manufacturing jobs to go unfulfilled by 2030. In the context of these challenges, this paper presents Cyber-Physical systems Training Range (CPS-TR), a cloud-based scalable student training platform to address 4IR needs, especially cybersecurity. The CPS-TR, built on Amazon Web Services (AWS), allows instructors to create experimental scenarios using virtual machines in AWS’ Elastic Cloud (EC2), connected via AWS Virtual Private Cloud (VPC) based subnet providing an isolated communication environment. The CPSTR front-end provides a web application-based interface for students and instructors to design new material and perform experiments. This paper evaluates the performance and efficiency of the CPS-TR environment while showcasing an experiment teaching trainees about the safe use of the MQTT protocol from 4IR infrastructure software updates. The experimental evaluation shows that a trainee’s network traffic volume while using the CPS-TR peaks at 2000 packets in a second; the network bandwidth requirements of a basic network connection suited for usage with mobile and tablet devices. The experimental evaluation also shows the VPC subnet communication peaks at eight packets in a second, with a cumulative packet count of fewer than 70 packets. This low VPC subnet utilization is in combination with EC2 *** VMs allows the CPS-TR operation costs to stay low.

This paper analyzes the impacts of electric vehicle (EV) adoption on real distribution networks and compares mitigation options at the distribution level. The impact of EV adoption on residential, commercial, and urban-commercial feeders was analyzed. EV load growth rates and feeder load profiles were extracted as inputs to scale up the effects of adoption. Various mitigation options, such as conventional system upgrades, battery energy storage systems, and time of use for all feeders, were compared. The results show that managed charging is likely to be adopted by commercial fleets, as they can be controlled by charging management systems to reduce peak demand. Commercial fleets can play a vital role in peak load shifting and overload mitigation if appropriately incentivized.

Metamaterial Antenna is a special class of antennas that uses metamaterial to enhance their *** size affects the quality factor and the radiation loss of the *** antennas can overcome the limitation of bandwidth for small *** learning(ML)model is recently applied to predict antenna *** can be used as an alternative approach to the trial-and-error process of finding proper parameters of the simulated *** accuracy of the prediction depends mainly on the selected *** models combine two or more base models to produce a better-enhanced *** this paper,a weighted average ensemble model is proposed to predict the bandwidth of the Metamaterial *** base models are used namely:Multilayer Perceptron(MLP)and Support Vector Machines(SVM).To calculate the weights for each model,an optimization algorithm is used to find the optimal weights of the *** Group-Based Cooperative Optimizer(DGCO)is employed to search for optimal weight for the base *** proposed model is compared with three based models and the average ensemble *** results show that the proposed model is better than other models and can predict antenna bandwidth efficiently.

Perceptual adjustment queries and an inverted measurement paradigm for low-rank metric learning

We introduce a new type of query mechanism for collecting human feedback, called the perceptual adjustment query (PAQ). Being both informative and cognitively lightweight, the PAQ adopts an inverted measurement scheme, and combines advantages from both cardinal and ordinal queries. We showcase the PAQ in the metric learning problem, where we collect PAQ measurements to learn an unknown Mahalanobis distance. This gives rise to a high-dimensional, low-rank matrix estimation problem to which standard matrix estimators cannot be applied. Consequently, we develop a two-stage estimator for metric learning from PAQs, and provide sample complexity guarantees for this estimator. We present numerical simulations demonstrating the performance of the estimator and its notable properties. Copyright © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

This study presents a 3D-printed all-dielectric lens assembly integrated with an ultra-wideband (UWB) antenna, designed specifically for beam-steering applications. The proposed system achieves beam steering by combining a rotatable 3D-printed all-dielectric lens assembly with a hemispherical lens and a UWB antenna. The UWB antenna is fabricated on an FR-4 substrate, while the hemispherical lens and rotatable stage assembly are made from Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS). The lens assembly includes a set of 3D-printed lenses capable of rotating to specific angles, with predefined positions at ±60° and a step size of 30°. Based on the simulated results, at the lower frequency of 3.1 GHz, the UWB antenna integrated with the 3D-printed all-dielectric hemispherical lens assembly does not achieve effective beam steering, as the main beam direction deviates from the rotatable lens angle. However, at intermediate frequencies, such as 7.0 GHz, the system demonstrates successful beam steering by adjusting the rotation angle of the hemispherical lens on the rotatable stage. © 2024 IEEE.

Aim of the paper is to conduct a survey of the present market, focusing on the best-selling retrofit LED lamps and to analyze experimentally their fundamental EMC performance for subsequent classification of the LED drivers. Two stage experimental characterization testing approach is adopted. First, input current and output luminous flux in steady-state under nominal supply conditions is acquired. Next, transfer of input supply voltage interharmonics to output visible flicker components in terms of gain factor curves is obtained. Based on the achieved and discussed testing results, classification of the LED lamps is developed. © 2023 IEEE.

A Systematic Review on Fostering Appropriate Trust in Human-AI Interaction: Trends, Opportunities and Challenges

Appropriate trust in Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems has rapidly become an important area of focus for both researchers and practitioners. Various approaches have been used to achieve it, such as confidence scores, explanations, trustworthiness cues, and uncertainty communication. However, a comprehensive understanding of the field is lacking due to the diversity of perspectives arising from various backgrounds that influence it and the lack of a single definition for appropriate trust. To investigate this topic, this article presents a systematic review to identify current practices in building appropriate trust, different ways to measure it, types of tasks used, and potential challenges associated with it. We also propose a Belief, Intentions, and Actions mapping to study commonalities and differences in the concepts related to appropriate trust by (a) describing the existing disagreements on defining appropriate trust, and (b) providing an overview of the concepts and definitions related to appropriate trust in AI from the existing literature. Finally, the challenges identified in studying appropriate trust are discussed, and observations are summarized as current trends, potential gaps, and research opportunities for future work. Overall, the article provides insights into the complex concept of appropriate trust in human-AI interaction and presents research opportunities to advance our understanding on this topic.
