We introduce a new type of query mechanism for collecting human feedback, called the perceptual adjustment query (PAQ). Being both informative and cognitively lightweight, the PAQ adopts an inverted measurement scheme, and combines advantages from both cardinal and ordinal queries. We showcase the PAQ in the metric learning problem, where we collect PAQ measurements to learn an unknown Mahalanobis distance. This gives rise to a high-dimensional, low-rank matrix estimation problem to which standard matrix estimators cannot be applied. Consequently, we develop a two-stage estimator for metric learning from PAQs, and provide sample complexity guarantees for this estimator. Industry 4.0 relies heavily on data generation and analysis. Sensor signals are difficult for analysis using traditional methods and mathematical techniques. Machine and Deep Learning algorithms in combination with mathematical transformations offer effective new ways of approaching the difficult problems of processing sensor signals. The paper's goal is to propose and validate the data-driven prediction model to analyze sensor data based on machine and deep learning algorithms. The models show promising results in predicting wear values and open the problem to further research. © 2023 IEEE.

A Systematic Review on Fostering Appropriate Trust in Human-AI Interaction: Trends, Opportunities and Challenges

Appropriate trust in Artificial Intelligence (AI) systems has rapidly become an important area of focus for both researchers and practitioners. Various approaches have been used to achieve it, such as confidence scores, explanations, trustworthiness cues, and uncertainty communication. However, a comprehensive understanding of the field is lacking due to the diversity of perspectives arising from various backgrounds that influence it and the lack of a single definition for appropriate trust. To investigate this topic, this article presents a systematic review to identify current practices in building appropriate trust, different ways to measure it, types of tasks used, and potential challenges associated with it. We also propose a Belief, Intentions, and Actions mapping to study commonalities and differences in the concepts related to appropriate trust by (a) describing the existing disagreements on defining appropriate trust, and (b) providing an overview of the concepts and definitions related to appropriate trust in AI from the existing literature. Finally, the challenges identified in studying appropriate trust are discussed, and observations are summarized as current trends, potential gaps, and research opportunities for future work. Overall, the article provides insights into the complex concept of appropriate trust in human-AI interaction and presents research opportunities to advance our understanding on this topic.

Aim of the paper is to conduct a survey of the present market, focusing on the best-selling retrofit LED lamps and to analyze experimentally their fundamental EMC performance for subsequent classification of the LED drivers. Two stage experimental characterization testing approach is adopted. First, input current and output luminous flux in steady-state under nominal supply conditions is acquired. Next, transfer of input supply voltage interharmonics to output visible flicker components in terms of gain factor curves is obtained. Based on the achieved and discussed testing results, classification of the LED lamps is developed. © 2023 IEEE.

Advancing Text-to-Image Generation: A Comparative Study of StyleGAN-T and Stable Diffusion 3 under Neutrosophic Sets

Recent advances in generative models have revolutionized the technology employed for image synthesis quite significantly, and two paradigms—GANs and diffusion-based models—are leading the pack of innovation. This paper outlines an extensive comparison and analysis of some of the best models across both paradigms, namely StyleGAN-T, DF-GAN, AttnGAN, and BigGAN on the GAN side and Stable Diffusion 3 (SD3), DALL·E 3, Midjourney v6, and Imagen 2 on the diffusion side. We systematically inspect the architectural design, training protocols, text-conditioning processes, and domain adaptability of each model, highlighting how they address text-to-image generation challenges differently. Through qualitative and quantitative measurements—such as FID, CLIP Score, human preference surveys, and compositional accuracy, the work reveals performance tradeoffs concerning speed, control, creativity, semantic alignment, and photorealism. We use the Neutrosophic Set model to select the best model based on these evaluation matrices. We have different scores for each model based on evaluation matrices. So, the neutrosophic set is used to overcome the uncertainty information. We use the COPRAS method to rank the models and select the best one based on the evaluation matrix weights. © 2025, University of New Mexico. All rights reserved.

This study investigates the relationship between the diameter of a D-shaped plastic optical fiber (POF) sensor and its optical response as a function of varying salt concentrations. A simple and efficient dry etching polishing technique was employed to create D-shaped POF sensors with a range of diameters. All the fabricated sensors were carefully developed to maintain a consistent length of 20 cm with a sensing region of 1cm. To evaluate the optical intensity response, each sensor, with its respective diameter, was examined with the salt concentration ranging from (0 to 5%) examination utilizing a spectrometer. The sensor response was characterized by quantifying the variations observed in the intensity of the optical signal propagating through the sensing region. The sensors having a diameter of 500 μm, 700 μm, and 900 μm had a sensitivity of 149 A.U/%salt, 66 A.U/%salt, and 11.2 A.U/%salt respectively. The sensitivity of the 500 μm diameter sensor increased 13 times approximately as compared to the sensor having diameter of 900 μm. © 2025 Institute of Physics Publishing. All rights reserved.

This work proposes a novel architecture for constructing remote laboratories, employing modular building blocks: Matlab/Simulink software for control system design and simulation, WebSocket communication technology for continuous data exchange, and a front-end application developed using the Angular framework. To facilitate WebSocket communication on the Matlab server side, the MatlabWebSocket library is implemented. Beyond the Angular framework, interactivity within the remote laboratory is further enhanced through 3D visualization of the controlled system using a *** based library. These combined technologies are applied in the development of a remote laboratory for a fast, unstable, and nonlinear magnetic levitation system. The laboratory allows users to remotely set desired values and control parameters for experiments, while also providing continuous data visualization in various forms, including numerical readouts, graphs, and 3D animations. This approach demonstrates the effectiveness of the proposed architecture for building remote laboratories for complex systems.

COVID’19 has caused the entire universe to be in existential healthcrisis by spreading globally in the year 2020. The lungs infection is detected inComputed Tomography (CT) images which provide the best way to increasethe existing healthcare schemes in preventing the deadly virus. Nevertheless,separating the infected areas in CT images faces various issues such as lowintensity difference among normal and infectious tissue and high changes inthe characteristics of the infection. To resolve these issues, a new inf-Net (LungInfection Segmentation Deep Network) is designed for detecting the affectedareas from the CT images automatically. For the worst segmentation results,the Edge-Attention Representation (EAR) is optimized using AdaptiveDonkey and Smuggler Optimization (ADSO). The edges which are identifiedby the ADSO approach is utilized for calculating dissimilarities. An IFCM(Intuitionistic Fuzzy C-Means) clustering approach is applied for computingthe similarity of the EA component among the generated edge maps andGround-Truth (GT) edge maps. Also, a Semi-Supervised Segmentation(SSS) structure is designed using the Randomly Selected Propagation (RP)technique and Inf-Net, which needs only less number of images and unlabelleddata. Semi-Supervised Multi-Class Segmentation (SSMCS) is designed usinga Bi-LSTM (Bi-Directional Long-Short-Term-memory), acquires all theadvantages of the disease segmentation done using Semi Inf-Net and enhancesthe execution of multi-class disease labelling. The newly designed SSMCSapproach is compared with existing U-Net++, MCS, and *** such as MAE (Mean Absolute Error), Structure measure, Specificity(Spec), Dice Similarity coefficient, Sensitivity (Sen), and Enhance-AlignmentMeasure are considered for evaluation purpose.

This study presents a 3D-printed all-dielectric lens assembly integrated with an ultra-wideband (UWB) antenna, designed specifically for beam-steering applications. The proposed system achieves beam steering by combining a rotatable 3D-printed all-dielectric lens assembly with a hemispherical lens and a UWB antenna. The UWB antenna is fabricated on an FR-4 substrate, while the hemispherical lens and rotatable stage assembly are made from Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS). The lens assembly includes a set of 3D-printed lenses capable of rotating to specific angles, with predefined positions at ±60° and a step size of 30°. Based on the simulated results, at the lower frequency of 3.1 GHz, the UWB antenna integrated with the 3D-printed all-dielectric hemispherical lens assembly does not achieve effective beam steering, as the main beam direction deviates from the rotatable lens angle. However, at intermediate frequencies, such as 7.0 GHz, the system demonstrates successful beam steering by adjusting the rotation angle of the hemispherical lens on the rotatable stage. © 2024 IEEE.
