In many countries of the world, energy production is carried out using fossil fuels, the amount of which is gradually decreasing. Scientists have calculated that the found sources of fuel with its intensive use will be enough for 70-130 years. At the same time, a number of countries have begun to use renewable energy, which is an environmentally friendly source. Wind power is the most promising area of it. The use of wind energy began more than a hundred years ago. The paper discusses the application of a control system for a synchronous generator with permanent magnets of a wind turbine. © 2023 IEEE.

Production losses of agricultural commodities on agricultural land due to product defects depend on the level of pest and disease attacks. Defects cause the product not to be harvested or rejected by the market. Data from the Ministry of Agriculture of the Republic of Indonesia in 2021 shows the percentage of defective products for this commodity is 5%. This study aims to detect defects in agricultural products using image processing and artificial neural networks. We used the screening threshold method with potato research samples from Dieng, Indonesia. The study results for spot defects showed that from 100 training data, there were five incorrect identification data, so the accuracy of the training process was 95%. At the same time, the hole defect accuracy is better, which is 97%. It shows that defects in agricultural commodities can be detected using this method. For further research, the development of agricultural product sorting can combine sorting techniques with this method. © 2022 IEEE.

Intelligent optimisation in smart and sustainable compressed air systems: Towards support for decision-making under faulty conditions

The monitoring of complex industrial systems through the implementation of smart approaches provides unique opportunities, such as the characterisation of their real-time performance. Within this scope, there exists the need to support decision-making during maintenance processes, due to the presence of a multitude of faults in real-world systems and the difficulty of identifying the appropriate mitigating solutions. The proposed solution uses intelligent optimisation techniques to identify the ideal control solution within these complex systems when faults arise. This paper presents a framework based on an intelligent optimisation approach, which provides a workflow process for the support of decision-making during faulty situations. It is adapted and implemented to the demand-side of a Compressed Air System (CAS), thus providing a holistic approach in automating fault mitigation during real-time system operation. In implementing this framework, multiple intelligent optimisation techniques such as the Genetic Algorithm and the Particle Swarm Optimisation algorithms were adopted and implemented. Both algorithms were successful in providing the ideal control solution under fault conditions. For a typical production case study, the proposed optimisation approach results in a reduction of 40% in its air consumption, which directly improves its environmental performance and energy costs. This result demonstrates that this approach contributes a suitable control strategy for CAS when experiencing a pneumatic fault, which has a direct positive effect on the operational energy performance and costs.

The variations in students' abilities present challenges in achieving desired learning outcomes. Students exhibit different levels of comprehension regarding the complexity of learning materials. In this study, we aim to model the difficulty levels of learning materials using a clustering approach to offer personalized learning material recommendations within an adaptive learning framework. Data were collected from student scores of Data Structure course obtained between 2020 and 2022 at the University of Trunojoyo Madura. The dataset modeling process adheres to the CRISP-DM Methodology, employing the K-Means clustering method and Euclidean Distance. We employed the Within-Cluster Sum of Squares (WCSS) metric and silhouette score to identify the optimal K-value, which resulted in a value of 5, accompanied by a silhouette score of 0.629. Our analysis pinpointed Stack and Deque as the easiest, while Linked List emerged as the most challenging course material. Accordingly, we will assign a label of 1 to the easiest materials, 2 to those of medium difficulty, and 3 to the most challenging ones. These labels will serve as criteria for recommending suitable learning materials to students based on their knowledge level. We will assess the ratio between the overall knowledge level score and the difficulty level of the material. The ratio value will serve as a reference for determining material recommendations for students. Materials categorized with the highest difficulty levels are exclusively suggested to students demonstrating faster learning abilities with a high value of ratio, and vice versa. This approach is feasible for implementation in adaptive learning. © 2024 IEEE.

Capital market transactions provide an opportunity for investors to acquire ownership of company shares and capital gains, as well as dividends. However, alongside the benefits, there are risks of capital loss and liquidation, leading to stress and depression due to profit targets and decision-making errors. To mitigate the risk of decision-making errors in investment, data analysis is needed, including sentiment analysis, which influences stock prices. This study aims to develop a new deep learning model to classify Indonesian public opinion on JCI stocks, especially the Energy sector, obtained from the Twitter social media platform. The model will perform sentiment analysis and categorize opinions as negative, neutral, or positive. We created a dataset that was trained using Bidirectional Encoder Representations from Transformers (BERT) to summarize the analysis of public sentiment above so that it can assist investors in studying public sentiment as a reference for investing with a yield precision of 76%, Recall of 77%, and F1-score on 76%. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper proposes an antimicrobial envelope design for RFID cards made from copper. Copper has natural antimicrobial properties but typically blocks radio waves. The design addresses this challenge by creating a copper envelope that functions as an antenna, allowing communication between the RFID reader and card while reducing microbial transmission. The paper explores the theory of impedance matching between the reader, card, and envelope. It details the design process, including resistance and inductance measurements and antenna design principles. Finally, the paper presents simulation results that show successful impedance matching at the target frequency and experimental results where the RFID card with the copper envelope could communicate with the reader, albeit at a shorter distance. This research suggests a promising solution for creating hygienic RFID cards while maintaining functionality. Further development is needed to optimize communication range for practical applications.

Color perception has long remained an in-triguing topic spanning vision and cognitive science, signal processing, and computer graphics. People are often classified as either “color-normal” or “color-blind”, and it is widely accepted there are a few types of colorblindness that are the most prevalent. At the same time, empirical evidence, such as in optometry and vision science, has repeatedly suggested that categories for colorblindness only serve as approximations to real manifestations of it. With the motivation of better understanding individual-level color perception, we propose a model for color vision that unifies existing theories for color-normal and color-blind populations. This model posits a certain type of low-dimensional structure in color space according to which any given person distinguishes colors. We design an algorithm to learn this low-dimensional structure from user queries, and prove statistical guarantees on its per-formance. To collect user data, we adapt a user interface design, termed “perceptual adjustment queries” (PAQs), to assess color perception. This user interface efficiently infers a user's color distinguishability profile from a few cognitively lightweight responses. A user study shows that our method captures individual-level differences in both color-normal and color-blind populations.
