In this article, the problem of linear precoding and radar receive beamforming design for joint radar-communication (JRC) systems is studied. A multiple antenna base station (BS) that serves multiple single-antenna user terminals on the downlink is assumed. Furthermore, the BS employs a simultaneous radar function in the form of point-like target detection from the reflected return signals in a signal-dependent interference environment. In this work, we jointly design the JRC linear precoder and the radar receive beamformer, thus aiming to optimize the performance of the radar part while maintaining a desired quality of service (QoS) for the communication one subject to a total transmit power constraint. To that end, we formulate a challenging fractional nonconvex optimization problem via which the optimal precoder and radar receive beamformer are derived. Then, we develop algorithmic solutions based on the majorization-minimization (MM) principle and the semidefinite relaxation (SDR) methodology for the formulated optimization problem. The performance of both the proposed solutions is examined and compared to the one of a system that supports only the radar functionality via numerical results. © 2023 IEEE.

The World Health Organization mentions that the mortality of premature newborns varies widely between 10% and $\mathbf{9 0 \%}$ depending on the country and economic income, observing that high-income countries have lower mortality rates in newborns born prematurely, due to access to advanced medical resources and better neonatal medical care infrastructure. Therefore, it is imperative to research and use current technology for the manufacture of affordable incubators in our country to save the lives of premature newborn babies. A new neonatal incubator system with three layers of insulation has been developed and patented in this research. Based on a 32-bit microcontroller AT91SAM3X8E of the Arduino Due module as the electronic system of the prototype and the RTD-PT1000 device was used to read the system. According to the protocol of the IEC 60601-2-19 standard, experimental tests for neonatal incubators were carried out. The methodology used for the analysis and evaluation made it possible to demonstrate the thermal efficiency in the prototype of three insulating layers by obtaining results with an error lower than those established by the standard.

As the semiconductor manufacturing technology node scales down in the deep submicron domain, hotspot detection becomes more challenging and geo-contextually dependent than ever before. The need to profile IC layout patterns based on geometrical commonalities becomes a significant demand either during IC layout design or manufacturing phases. Identified hotspots during the manufacturing phase are usually correlated to specific geometrical configurations sensitive to the lithography process or other manufacturing processes. Accordingly, identifying similar geometrical configurations is an important step toward locating potential hotspots. Once these hotspots are identified, their patterns can be provided to the router to avoid using these patterns and find other valid alternatives. Furthermore, in the IC design sign-off phase or Design Rules Check (DRC), layout profiling can identify patterns with high commonalities to these problematic patterns that potentially lead to a yield loss. In this paper, we introduce automated IC layout patterns topological profiling approach using Directional Geometrical Kernels (DGKs) to capture the context of patterns around a Point-Of-Interest (POI) in an IC layout, such as a hotspot. The DGKs pattern representation provides a direct one-to-one mapping with physical geometrical measurements centered by the POI and doesn't need further feature extraction models or maps used by other pixelized gridded image-based or density-based representations, which are both time and computational resources-consuming. The DGKs are decomposed into topological and dimensional components. This makes the mechanism of patterns topological profiling not in need of complex models and can be precisely fine controlled to produce adequate patterns profiling granularity that is not easily approached by other patterns profiling alternatives. © 2023 SPIE.

An M-sequence generated by a primitive polynomial has many interesting and desirable properties. A pseudorandom array is the two-dimensional generalization of an M-sequence. Similarly to primitive polynomials, there are irreducible and reducible polynomials whose all nonzero sequences have the same length. In this paper, a two-dimensional generalization for such sequences is given. This generalization is for a pseudo-random array code which is a set of r1×r2 arrays in which each n1×n2 nonzero matrix is contained exactly once as a window in one of the arrays. Moreover, these arrays have the shift-and-add property, i.e., the bitwise addition of two arrays (or a nontrivial shift of such arrays) is another array (or a shift of another array) from the code. All the known arrays can be formed by folding sequences generated from an irreducible polynomial or a reducible polynomial whose factors have the same degree and the same exponent. Two proof techniques are used to prove the parameters of the constructed arrays. The first one is based on another method for constructing some of these arrays. The second one is a generalization of a known proof technique. This generalization enables to present pseudo-random arrays with parameters not known before and also a variety of pseudo-random array codes which cannot be generated by the first method. The two techniques also suggest two different hierarchies between pseudo-random array codes. Finally, a method to verify whether a folding of sequences, generated by these polynomials, yields a pseudo-random array or a pseudo-random array code, will be presented. © 2025, CC BY.

Enhancing the performance and extending the life-cycle of older vehicles through retrofitting with improved systems presents an alluring opportunity. However, achieving accurate sensing of crucial parameters, such as engine revolutions per minute (RPM), poses challenges due to the need for mechanical manipulation and some designs, which may result in diminished accuracy in adverse settings. This study proposes using the primary ignition pulse signal to accurately determine engine speed without mechanical manipulation. We investigate the effectiveness of signal processing methods, including the RC filter, 2nd and 6th order Butterworth filter, to improve the accuracy of the readings. Our proposed method successfully collects data from conventional internal combustion engines, with simulated signal processing methods producing accurate detection of RPM and reduced fluctuations. The proposed method eliminated the noise, leading to accurate RPM measurements, while the maximum standard deviation observed for the RC filter implementation was 38.74. By accurately sensing key parameters, older vehicles can be retrofitted with improved systems, leading to enhanced performance and an extended lifecycle. The introduced methods can be practically implemented using custom electronics or embedded systems and can contribute to future research on automotive retrofitting.

This paper presents StreamTag, a platform designed for the efficient management of labeled data in healthcare environments, particularly for activity recognition systems in residential and nursing home settings. Human Activity Recognition (HAR) is crucial for monitoring patient behaviors and supporting personalized care, and this field has evolved significantly with advances in IoT and AI. StreamTag integrates a flexible data labeling structure and a modular architecture, enabling data collection, labeling, and secure management of activity data. The system leverages non-relational databases for scalable data handling, along with secure protocols to ensure data integrity and privacy. This work examines existing approaches in HAR, including data-driven, knowledge-based, and hybrid models, and situates StreamTag as a versatile solution that combines flexible user-controlled labeling with high adaptability for diverse healthcare contexts. This article presents a bendable substrate MnxCa(0.90−x)Ni0.10Fe2O4 based metamaterial absorber for RF energy harvesting from Wifi frequency of 5 GHz to the achievement of the Sustainable Development Goals. The bendable metamaterial absorber (BMMA) energy harvester unit cell constructed with the physical dimension of 21 × 21 *** proposed unit cell consist of cross sign shaped resonator surrounded by circular ring resonator is located middle portion and boundary split outer ring resonator. Based on the simulation findings, the proposed BMMA energy harvester provides maximum energy harvesting efficiency of 99.42% at 5 GHz. Due to the symmetrical design, the energy harvester unit cell shows excellent angle insensitive up to 90 degrees for incident angle and polarization angle. The proposed BMMA exhibits single negative properties, and it shows excellent harvesting efficiency for various bending conditions. The lightweight, flexibility of the structure indicate that MnxCa(0.90−x)Ni0.10Fe2O4 based bendable metamaterial absorber energy harvester have significant potential for RF energy harvesting application from wifi frequency of 5 GHz and it achieve Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specially alignment with SDG 7 (Affordable and Clean Energy), SDG 9 (Industry, Innovation, and Infrastructure), SDG 11 (Sustainable Cities and Communities),and SDG 13 (Climate Action). © 2024, The Authors. In this research, a telecommunication standard fiber Bragg grating is sputtered with a 45 nm gold film to obtain surface plasmon resonance. Carbon nanotubes are deposited over the gold layer for sensitivity enhancement due to its unique chemical and optical properties. The developed sensor is interrogated with a broad-spectrum light source and spectrophotometer setup in the visible region and the sensing performance is analyzed. The sensor showed high sensitivity of 526 nm/RIU which was more than 4 time higher than a sensor without the carbon nanotubes enhancement. This shows great promise in the application of CNTs and possibly other sensitive nanomaterials as sensing enhancements of future sensing using optical fibers. © 2023 IEEE.
