Sign language has importance rule to deal with communication process especially with impairments hearing people. Sign language detection also attract lot of researchers to join the challenge of research to detect and recognize the sign language in the field of computer Science. Hence, there is still no any standard approach and method to recognize the meaning in every pose of sign language. This research proposed a mechanism to detect Alphabet American Sign Language by utilizing Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) process. The CNN approach was chosen based on the ability and capability to recognize image. In this research, MNIST dataset is used for traning and testing process. The proposed CNN architecture produced 97% of accuracy that outperform the previous research using the same dataset which made this architecture promising. © 2022 IEEE.

Unlike centralized versions, a distributed self-healing system (SHS) for electrical distributed systems is less vulnerable to single-point failures (or attacks), requires less information from the agents, and is more scalable. However, optimality is challenging to achieve because binary variables are used in the modelling of the distributed service restoration problem. To deal with this challenge, this paper proposes an enhanced alternating direction method of multipliers (ADMM)based algorithm used to developed a fully distributed SHS in electrical distribution networks. Hereby, three ADMM-based heuristics are executed in parallel to improve the chances of obtaining a feasible solution. However, if none of the heuristics converge within given reasonable time, the proposed distributed SHS uses a basic restoration plan that is feasible in terms of topology and operational constraints. Results using the IEEE 123node system show that the proposed distributed SHS is reliable and it always provides a feasible solution.

Attitudes and concerns related to privacy are not homogeneous, but instead differ based on the individual and context at hand. Understanding how these attitudes and concerns vary could inform product, service, and policy design. Questionnaires, such as the Privacy Attitudes Questionnaire (PAQ), can be used to evaluate and derive implications from people’s privacy orientations in numerous domains, including healthcare, social media, and e-commerce. Our objective is to refine the PAQ to reflect areas of privacy concern in today’s landscape. The panel will serve as a forum for conversation about areas of privacy concern, guided by our panelists’ expertise and questions about demographic and user considerations for the revised PAQ, a framework-inspired understanding of privacy, and privacy in healthcare. Insights and perspectives arising from the discussion panel will be considered for subsequent revisions of the PAQ.

In this work, we design and analyse a Slotted ALOHA (SA) solution for Optical Wireless Communication (OWC)-based Internet of Underwater Things (IoUT). In the proposed system, user devices exchange data with an access point (AP) which exploits the capture effect. The space spanned by the IoUT nodes is three-dimensional, i.e., users are located in half-sphere centered at the AP placed at the bottom of a floating object at the water surface level. The analytical expressions for the system throughput and reliability expressed in terms of the outage probability are derived. Based on the simulated signal-to-noise-and-interference-ratio statistics and derived analytical expressions, we present numerical results that investigate the trade-off between the system performance and the IoUT system parameters, such as the number of users, activation probability and type of water medium. The presented conclusions provide valuable insights into the design of an SA-based solution for IoUT communications. © 2023 IEEE.

Distributed optimization finds many applications in machine learning, signal processing, and control systems. In these real-world applications, the constraints of communication networks, particularly limited bandwidth, necessitate implementing quantization techniques. In this paper, we propose distributed optimization dynamics over multi-agent networks subject to logarithmically quantized data transmission. Under this condition, data exchange benefits from representing smaller values with more bits and larger values with fewer bits. As compared to uniform quantization, this allows for higher precision in representing near-optimal values and more accuracy of the distributed optimization algorithm. The proposed optimization dynamics comprise a primary state variable converging to the optimizer and an auxiliary variable tracking the objective function's gradient. Our setting accommodates dynamic network topologies, resulting in a hybrid system requiring convergence analysis using matrix perturbation theory and eigenspectrumanalysis. © 2024, CC BY.

Large-scale transformer-based models like the Bidi-rectional Encoder Representations from Transformers (BERT) are widely used for Natural Language Processing (NLP) applications, wherein these models are initially pre-trained with a large corpus with millions of parameters and then fine-tuned for a downstream NLP task. One of the major limitations of these large-scale models is that they cannot be deployed on resource- constrained devices due to their large model size and increased inference latency. In order to overcome these limitations, such large-scale models can be converted to an optimized FlatBuffer format, tailored for deployment on resource-constrained edge devices. Herein, we evaluate the performance of such FlatBuffer transformed MobileBERT models on three different edge devices, fine-tuned for Reputation analysis of English language tweets in the Rep Lab 2013 dataset. In addition, this study encompassed an evaluation of the deployed models, wherein their latency, performance, and resource efficiency were meticulously assessed. Our experiment results show that, compared to the original BERT large model, the converted and quantized MobileBERT models have 160x smaller footprints for a 4.1 % drop in accuracy while analyzing at least one tweet per second on edge devices. Furthermore, our study highlights the privacy-preserving aspect of TinyML systems as all data is processed locally within a serverless environment.

This paper presents a 3D-printed hemispherical lens incorporated with a square patch microstrip antenna for liquid-mixture characterization. The proposed hemispherical lens antenna is designed, fabricated, and integrated with the microstrip patch planar antenna. An Acrylonitrile Butadiene Styrene (ABS) is selected to design the 3D-printed lens antenna by using the fused deposition modeling (FDM) method, due to available 3D-printed material in the laboratory. The optimum dimensions and shape of the hemispherical lens antenna are obtained by using the 3D EM Simulation CST Studio, which is used to investigate the characteristic of the antenna, e.g., gain, radiation pattern, and reflection coefficient. To characterize the liquid content in NaCl solution, the level of the transmission coefficient (S21) is detected. The proposed sensor system offers various preferable features, e.g., non-destructive method and non-contact measurement. Five liquid solutions under test (LUT), e.g., 5%, 10%, 15%, 20%, and 25% NaCl in the NaCl-aqueous solutions, are measured and performed to generate the extraction model. The proposed sensor also offers other advantages, e.g., real-time monitoring and no life-cycle limitation. © 2022 IEEE.

Sentiment analysis and emotion classification are two crucial components of natural language processing (NLP), which have been widely explored in recent years due to their broad applications. Sentiment analysis aims to identify the polarity of written texts, ranging from positive to negative. Meanwhile, emotion classification is focused on recognizing and categorizing the emotional states expressed in the text. To achieve a deeper understanding of sentiments and emotions, it's essential to utilize models like BERT transformers that can effectively interpret the context. The process begins with data preprocessing, including tokenization and noise removal, followed by fine-tuning techniques to adapt the BERT model to the proposed tasks. We employed the BERT model on four datasets obtained from various sources, including Twitter, news websites, and restaurant reviews, where each dataset represents a distinct Arabic dialect. Our proposed model outperforms commonly used techniques like LSTM and CNN, yielding superior results. Despite the progress made, there are still challenges to overcome, such as dealing with Arabic diacritics, the new Arabic Arabizi, which uses Latin characters, and handling Arabic idioms. Further research is required to address these challenges adequately.

Compressed Sensing (CS) is a novel data acquisition theorem exploiting the signals sparsity differing from traditional Nyquist theorem in the ability of obtaining all information of such signal in fewer samples. CS can enable full use of sparsity, where the sparse signal can be reconstructed using fewer measurements. Over the past decade, several papers have investigated the feasibility of deploying CS in current applications. A lot of developments are performed in this area in order to enhance the performance and re-usability. The CS algorithm involves many phases at the transmitter side, including: transformation, compression, encoding, encryption, and modulation. Meanwhile the receiver involves: demodulation, decryption, decoding, and reconstruction. This work assembles most of the published papers in the CS area, listing the important details and showing their contributions. Each building block of the CS system is studied solely and compared with its reference in the literature. A comparative study is performed reviewing the work in the literature with respect to compression metrics, deployed reconstruction algorithm, system complexity. Tabulated results are studied with respect to hardware and memory computation complexity. Recommendations and conclusions are illustrated at the end of our work. © 2023 The Author(s)
