Accurate removal of brain tumors is always one of the most important challenges for surgeons, as the continuous change of the brain state after opening the skull and releasing the resulting pressure causes the tumor state to change. By registration of preoperative MR images on intraoperative ultrasound images, the extent of this change is estimated and a new image of the brain is created. The result shows the changes and shifts in the brain, and the surgeon removes the tumor based on this image. Image registration using new deep learning methods has attracted the attention of many researchers due to its high efficiency and accuracy. In this paper, the images of 22 male and female patients with grade 2 glioma tumors were used to evaluate the proposed method. MR images of the patients were taken before surgery, while ultrasound images were taken during surgery and after cranial incision. The deep network used in this paper to compensate for non-rigid changes is voxel morph. All images were fed to the pre-trained network in pairs, and the results are reported for each individual. The average error of all images for the proposed method is 3.56 ± 1.72. This shows the improvement in performance compared to the previous methods since in this work the landmarks were not used in training phase. © 2024 IEEE.

Wireless Capsule Endoscopy (WCE) emerged as an innovative and patient-centric approach for non-invasive and painless examination of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract. It serves as a pivotal tool in helping medical practitioners in the early detection of anomalies within the intricate domain of the human GI tract. The automated identification of aberrations assumes paramount significance, contributing not only to temporal efficiency but also to timely diagnosis. Within the realm of academic literature, a plethora of Artificial Intelligence (AI) methodologies have been proposed to effectuate the automatic classification, segmentation, and synthesis of anomalies inherent in WCE images. This scholarly endeavor undertakes a comprehensive and meticulous survey, elucidating the spectrum of anomaly classification, summarization, and detection techniques harnessed for computer-Aided Diagnosis (CAD) in the context of WCE images. The survey begins by delineating the methodologies underpinning WCE image classification and video processing. Subsequently, an exhaustive evaluation of techniques for analyzing WCE images is furnished, accompanied by an in-depth exploration of pertinent surveys, in addition to a judicious assessment of their merits and demerits. Furthermore, this study undertakes a rigorous evaluation of prevailing datasets utilized to benchmark the efficacy of various WCE techniques. In summary, this survey serves as a vanguard, delineating promising avenues for future investigations in the realm of WCE image analysis models. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer Science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2025.

Skin cancer is a significant public health concern, necessitating accurate and timely detection for effective treatment. Deep learning models have emerged as promising tools for skin cancer classification, demonstrating remarkable accuracy in various studies. However, the performance of deep learning models heavily relies on the choice of optimizer, which affects the training process and convergence speed. In this paper, we investigate the accuracy variance between different optimizers in deep learning models for skin cancer classification. Different deep learning architectures, such as convolutional neural networks (CNNs) are implemented on HAM 10000 (Human Against Machine) dataset to train the skin cancer classification models. The obtained results compare different optimizers such as Root Mean Square Propagation (RMSProp), Nadam, AdaDelta, Stochastic Gradient Descent (SGD), Adamax, Adagrad, Adam, and Adam-M, in terms of the model accuracy. As a future direction we recommend hybrid techniques and modifications of Adam technique. © 2023 IEEE.

Visual information decoding aims to infer the visual content perceived by a subject based on their brain responses, representing a cutting-edge area of neuroscience research. Functional magnetic resonance imaging (fMRI) provides millimeter-level spatial resolution and a relatively high signal-to-noise ratio, making it an ideal tool for neural information decoding. However, practical applications remain limited, primarily due to the reliance on subject-specific models. In this work, we propose BrainTransformer, a novel framework for cross-subject visual information decoding. To overcome the limitations, we develop a self-supervised patch embedding transformer trained using a masked signal modeling approach on large-scale fMRI data, enabling the learning of robust and generalizable neural representations across subjects. By aligning these learned fMRI representations with CLIP's image and text embeddings, BrainTransformer leverages rich semantic information from both visual and textual modalities. This alignment allows us to employ a multimodal latent diffusion model guided by CLIP's embeddings to generate images consistent with brain activity. Experimental results demonstrate BrainTransformer's effectiveness in decoding visual information across subjects, marking a significant step toward scalable and generalizable brain decoding. © 2024 IEEE.

The growing demand for reliable and sustainable energy has driven researchers and engineers to explore renewable energy sources to complement traditional power grids. Wind energy conversion systems (WECS), particularly those using permanent magnet synchronous generators (PMSG), are among the most widely adopted renewable energy solutions. Integrating WECS into traditional grids introduces challenges, including power system oscillations, especially during disturbances or faults. Inertia control and power electronics converters are pivotal in mitigating these oscillations and ensuring grid stability. This review investigates the design and optimization of damping controllers, emphasizing their integration with excitation systems to enhance the dynamic performance of PMSG-based wind integrated grids. Additionally, the role of power electronics in control strategies and inertia emulation for stable grid operation is discussed. The findings highlight the critical importance of advanced control measures in addressing the inherent uncertainties of renewable energy systems integrated with conventional grids. © 2025 IEEE.

Navigating the world with visual impairments presents unique challenges, often limiting independence and safety. This research introduces SafeStride, a novel algorithm designed to empower visually impaired individuals through real-time obstacle detection and navigation assistance. SafeStride functions through five interconnected phases: sensor data acquisition, data preprocessing, obstacle detection, path planning, and feedback and guidance. A combination of ultrasonic sensors, cameras, and inertial measurement units (IMUs) feed comprehensive environmental data into the system, enabling accurate obstacle detection and safe path planning. Evaluating SafeStride's performance involved the MNIST dataset for image recognition and a dedicated indoor object detection dataset. Additionally, comparisons were made against three deep learning models—convolutional neural network (CNN), long short-term memory (LSTM), and gated recurrent unit (GRU). The results showcased SafeStride's high accuracy and effectiveness in both obstacle detection and classification. Beyond its impressive performance, SafeStride represents a significant leap forward in navigation aids for the visually impaired. By offering a comprehensive solution that enhances safety and independence in diverse environments, it holds immense potential to improve the lives of countless individuals. Future efforts will focus on further optimizing the algorithm and testing its real-world capabilities, paving the way for a future where safe and independent navigation becomes a reality for all. All three deep learning models (CNN, LSTM, GRU) excelled in the experiment, achieving high accuracy above 0.98, strong recall and F1-scores near 0.99, and exceptional AUC-ROC scores exceeding 0.9998. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2025.

High-fidelity(HiFi)sequencing has facilitated the assembly and analysis of the most repetitive region of the genome,the ***,our current understanding of human centromeres is based on a relatively small number of telomere-to-telomere assemblies,which have not yet captured its full *** this study,we investigated the genomic diversity of human centromere higher order repeats(HORs)via both HiFi reads and haplotype-resolved assemblies from hundreds of samples drawn from ongoing pangenome-sequencing projects and reprocessed them via a novel HOR annotation pipeline,*** used this wealth of data to provide a global survey of the centromeric HOR landscape;in particular,we found that 23 HORs presented significant copy number variability between *** detected three centromere genotypes with unbalanced population frequencies on chromosomes 5,8,and *** inter-assembly comparison of HOR loci further revealed that while HOR array structures are diverse,they nevertheless tend to form a number of specific landscapes,each exhibiting different levels of HOR subunit expansion and possibly reflecting a cyclical evolutionary transition from homogeneous to nested structures and back.

Various types of information are imprinted in the speech signal, which the interlocutor registers with his auditory perceptual system. The number of transmitted messages, hidden in the speech signal, is numerous, because they give a stamp on the complete personality of the speaker: his biological, sociological, psychological and social dimensions. Studying and analyzing the emotional characteristics of the speech signal requires knowledge of several scientific fields, such as information technology, psychology, pedagogy, acoustics, signal processing, linguistics, medicine, artificial intelligence and many others. In the process of processing human speech, in order to determine the emotional state of the speaker, in this paper we used its spectral and prosodic characteristics. As the emotional state of the speaker causes a change in the vocal tract in relation to neutral speech, a change in rhythm, intonation, melodicity, volume and other changes, i.e. adequate changes in the spectral plane, we believe that these characteristics are relevant in the speech signal for determining the emotional state of the speaker. Also, prosodic characteristics related to rhythm, accent, intensity and intonation of speech [3] largely reflect emotional speech. In order to classify the speech signal into a specific emotional group, a fusion of classifiers based on Gaussian Mixture Model was used (GMM) and Support vector machine (SVM). SAVEE emotional speech database was used for training and testing data. © 2023 IEEE.
