Facial expression recognition plays a pivotal role in comprehending emotions and social interactions, particularly in individuals grappling with autism spectrum disorder (ASD), who often encounter challenges in non-verbal communication. For some with ASD, even subtle shifts in their facial expressions can prove elusive, rendering it arduous to categorize their emotional states accurately. Consequently, the analysis and processing of facial expression data hold the potential to facilitate early autism diagnosis, thereby enabling timely therapeutic interventions and alleviating the economic and psychological burdens experienced by patients. In this study, we introduce an enhanced approach that leverages a fuzzy convolutional neural network (CNN) and an Improved Binary Genetic Algorithm (IBGA) for autism diagnosis based on facial expression data. Our model confronts the intricate task of recognizing facial images by selecting salient features employing the IBGA method. Moreover, it employs fuzzy weights to ascertain the probability of similarity within the classifier layer. Our proposed model has yielded impressive outcomes, boasting an average accuracy of 0.9405 for ASD detection and 0.9365 for the recognition of six distinct facial expressions. These results hold profound implications for the enhancement of emotion recognition systems and the refinement of interventions aimed at bolstering social interactions for individuals grappling with ASD. © 2024, The Authors. Cardiopulmonary resuscitation (CPR) assistance glove represents a valuable tool for monitoring chest compressions during CPR, which is crucial for effective cardiac arrest response. By incorporating an MPU6050 accelerometer sensor and a force sensing resistor, the glove enables accurate measurement of the chest compression rate and force exerted. Preliminary testing demonstrated the glove's effectiveness in simulating chest compressions, with data collected and transmitted wirelessly to MATLAB software. Manual counting and MATLAB analysis validated the accuracy of compression rate calculations, while force sensing resistor voltage readings provided insights into the force exerted during compressions. These results highlight the glove's potential to significantly enhance the precision and quality of CPR administration, improving outcomes for cardiac arrest patients.

We consider a rate-splitting multiple access (RSMA)-based communication and radar coexistence (CRC) system. The proposed system allows an RSMA-based communication system to share spectrum with multiple radars. Furthermore, RSMA enables flexible and powerful interference management by splitting messages into common parts and private parts to partially decode interference and partially treat interference as noise. The RSMA-based CRC system thus significantly improves spectral efficiency and quality of service (QoS) of communication users (CUs). The communication network and the radars cause interference to each other, which reduces the signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio (SINR) of the radars as well as the data rate of the CUs. Therefore, a major problem is to maximize the sum rate of the CUs while guaranteeing their QoS requirements of data transmissions and the SINR requirements of multiple radars. To achieve these objectives, we formulate a problem that optimizes i) the common rate allocation to the CUs, transmit power of common message and transmit power of private messages of the CUs, and ii) transmit power of the radars. We propose an additive approximation scheme (AAS) which solves the problem globally. Simulation results show the improvement of the AAS compared with the sequential quadratic programming (SQP) in terms of sum rate.

In this study, we integrated the Polynomial Regression module with a Variational Autoencoder (PolyReg-VAE) model to foster the inference of transfer curves before further deriving the electrical properties of a-IGZO TFT. This approach is able to predict the electrical characteristics of a-IGZO-TFT with different process parameters in a short time, reducing the cost and the time of developing new technology.

A recent study explored the construction of the Shewhart median (S-M) chart by utilizing the percentile-based (PL) method. By using the PL method, practitioners can ascertain that the required conditions on run length (RL) performances for both in-control (IC) and out-of-control (OC) cases are met with desired probabilities. They conducted a comprehensive investigation on the IC and OC capabilities of the S-M chart utilizing the average run length (ARL), median run length (MRL), and PL methods for known shift sizes, and concluded that by adopting the PL method, the S-M chart demonstrated a noteworthy enhancement in the IC performance in comparison to the ARL method without causing much deterioration to the OC performance when $\delta\geq 1.5$. However, in various practical scenarios, the exact shift size is commonly unknown. Hence, we propose a new performance measure called the expected percentile run length (EPRL), where 50th EPRL is equivalent to expected MRL (EMRL). It can be inferred that by adopting the PL method, the S-M chart demonstrated a noteworthy enhancement in the IC performance in comparison to the ARL method without causing much deterioration to the OC performance when $(\delta_{\mathrm{m}\ln},\delta_{\max})=(1.5,2.0)$ for unknown shift sizes. We illustrate the application of the proposed method using a real-life example based on the hard-baking process. © 2023 IEEE.

Graphics processing units (GPUs) are increasingly used for security-critical workloads but remain vulnerable to cache side-channel attacks that can leak sensitive data like cryptographic keys and model parameters. Hardware-based defences incorporated into the GPU architecture, such as partitioning and randomisation, can help mitigate these risks by increasing isolation and unpredictability. However, rigorous benchmarks are imperative to evaluate the security-performance tradeoffs of potential defences. We developed GPUSecBench, a comprehensive benchmarking suite comprising timed workloads, real-world attack implementations, and rigorous analysis tools to quantify cache side-channel leakage and overhead of defences empirically. Our experiments demonstrated measurable information leakage across diverse workloads, including cryptography, machine learning, and graphics rendering. The modelled cache timing attacks succeeded in recovering secrets with over 90% success rates. At the same time, defences incurred less than 20% performance slowdown. GPUSecBench provides security insights to enable GPU hardware architects to make data-driven design decisions, guiding the development of micro architectures resilient to timing side-channel attacks with acceptable performance tradeoffs. The benchmark can also benefit system developers in building robust GPU -accelerated applications.

Virtual reality (VR) technology has been increasingly adopted for creating engaging educational environments, such as virtual laboratories. This study evaluated the user experience of a virtual semiconductor laboratory environment, utilizing Reverb G2 HMD VR headsets, through a user experience questionnaire (UEQ-S) and a psychometric analysis of its 26 items. Results showed that most participants found the virtual laboratories enjoyable, understandable, creative, easy to learn, and valuable. The psychometric analysis revealed relatively consistent and reliable construct related to user experience. The Kruskal-Wallis H test demonstrated that participants perceived the VR headsets to be easier to use when they found the virtual laboratories more enjoyable. However, there were no significant differences in user experience scores based on preferred VR headset, and user experience did not predict headset preference. These findings suggest that VR technology presents a promising solution for addressing practical challenges in education and fostering student engagement, although further research is needed to optimize the user experience and enhance student motivation.

The role of learning media greatly supports the learning process, increasing motivation and interest in the process. Learning media can also be a place to improve competence optimally through bootcamp training menus and the like with more specific training objectives. The main objective of this study is to develop a gamification-based website to enhance students’ preparedness for their Final Competency Test by tackling challenges in comprehending programming absent practical experience. The learning method implemented in this website is case-based learning that integrates dynamic coding activities. The research method uses the Plomp approach with 3 main stages, namely preliminary research, prototyping, and assessment stage. The trial of the gamification website began with media and content validation followed by small group testing and large group testing. Validation by media and material experts led to the execution of small group trials (95.7%) and large group trials (91.7%), producing exceptionally positive outcomes. The results of the small group test with 12 respondents produced a very suitable value with a score of 95.7 and the large group test with 27 respondents produced a score of $\mathbf{9 1. 7 \%}$ with very suitable criteria. This indicates that the web-based platform is highly viable for assisting vocational students in acquiring software development skills, enhancing their preparedness for practical IT positions such as software developers and system analysts. Subsequent study involved the incorporation of gamification, such as computer-supported collaborative learning.

Using WiFi Fingerprinting for indoor positioning is becoming increasingly popular due to its cost-effectiveness. However, to ensure the system can operate with high accuracy and stability, this technique requires a burden of data collection tasks from a dense distribution of reference points (RPs). To decrease the cost of data collection, as well as to improve the WiFi fingerprint database with irregular distribution of RPs, this study applies and compares different interpolation methods. Evaluating these methods in a public dataset including multiple sub-datasets with irregular distributions of RPs, the results highlight the Linear Barycentric interpolation (LB) as the most favorable method due to its low complexity and stable performance. The LB-based fingerprint database achieves an average interpolation error of less than 3 dBm compared to the original one. When applying the interpolated database to positioning tasks, it can help reduce acquisition costs by up to 50% while improving positioning accuracy by up to 11%. The study reveals the feasibility of interpolation in optimizing WiFi fingerprint data collection, especially in large and complex environments where regular distribution of RPs cannot be deployed.

Low-code programming (LCP) refers to programming using models at higher levels of abstraction, resulting in less manual and more efficient programming, and reduced learning effort for amateur developers. Many LCP tools have rapidly evolved and have benefited from the concepts of visual programming languages (VPLs) and programming by demonstration (PBD). With huge increase in interest in using large language models (LLMs) in software engineering, LLM-based LCP has began to become increasingly important. However, the technical principles and application scenarios of traditional approaches to LCP and LLM-based LCP are significantly different. Understanding these key differences and characteristics in the application of the two approaches to LCP by users is crucial for LCP providers in improving existing and developing new LCP tools, and in better assisting users in choosing the appropriate LCP technology. We conducted an empirical study of both traditional LCP and LLM-based LCP. We analyzed developers’ discussions on Stack Overflow (SO) over the past three years and then explored the similarities and differences between traditional LCP and LLM-based LCP features and developer feedback. Our findings reveal that while traditional LCP and LLM-based LCP share common primary usage scenarios, they significantly differ in scope, limitations and usage throughout the software development lifecycle, particularly during the implementation phase. We also examine how LLMs impact and integrate with LCP, discussing the latest technological developments in LLM-based LCP, such as its integration with VPLs and the application of LLM Agents in software engineering.
