In this correspondence, we analyze the performance of a reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS)-aided communication system that involves a fluid antenna system (FAS)-enabled receiver. By applying the central limit theorem (CLT), we derive approximate expressions for the system outage probability when the RIS has a large number of elements. Also, we adopt the block-correlation channel model to simplify the outage probability expressions, reducing the computational complexity and shedding light on the impact of the number of ports. Numerical results validate the effectiveness of our analysis, especially in scenarios with a large number of RIS elements. © 2024, CC BY.

This letter proposes a secure beamforming design for downlink non-orthogonal multiple access (NOMA) systems utilizing fluid antenna systems (FAS). We consider a setup where a base station (BS) with M fluid antennas (FAs) communicates to a cell-center user (CU) and a cell-edge user (CEU), each with a FA. The CU is the intended recipient while the CEU is regarded as a potential eavesdropper. Our aim is to maximize the achievable secrecy rate by jointly optimizing the secure beamforming vectors and the positions of FAs. To tackle this, we adopt an alternating optimization (AO) algorithm that optimizes secure beamforming and the positions of the FAs iteratively while keeping the other variables fixed. Numerical results illustrate that when FAs meet NOMA, the proposed scheme greatly enhances the secrecy rate compared to conventional multiple-input single-output (MISO) fixed antenna NOMA systems and other benchmark schemes. © 2024, CC BY.

The paper presents how a combined footprint of two or more solder pastes is obtained using a jet printer. When using the Pin in Paste (PiP) technology with over printing, two problems arise - obtaining solder balls outside the solder pads and not everywhere melting of the solder paste. To avoid these problems, a combined footprint of two solder pastes could be used, which can reduce the melting temperature and collect the solder material in the pad. Combined footprints were realized by means of a Jet printer on different pads with different content of the two solder pastes. Using the reflow process in the vapor phase, the soldering was performed. The research also was studied and evaluated how the solder material melted in different sized pads and with different contents of the two solder pastes. The soldering of SMD and TH elements was also observed and evaluated using a combined fingerprint. © 2020 IEEE.

Ensuring dependable quality of service (QoS) and quality of experience (QoE) for computation-intensive and delay-sensitive applications in vehicles can be a challenging task that impacts performance. While multi-access edge computing (MEC) based vehicular edge computing network (VECN) and vehicular cloudlets (VC) enable task offloading, but their prompt and optimal accessibility is another challenge. The conventional wireless technologies may not suffice to meet the stringent ultra-low latency and cost constraints of such applications. Nonetheless, the combination of different wireless technologies can enhance network performance and satisfy these requirements. Focusing on the computational efficacy of VECN, this paper proposes a mobility, contact, and computational load-aware (MCLA) task offloading scheme for heterogeneous VECN. The MCLA scheme dynamically considers the mobility, contact, and computational load of vehicles for making task offloading decisions. To optimize the performance, the MCLA scheme integrates the Mode-1 and Mode-2 of the 5G-NR-V2X standard, along with mmWave communications. The MCLA scheme provides an opportunistic switching mechanism between these modes and heterogeneous radio access technologies (RATs) to reduce communication delays and costs. Moreover, the MCLA scheme leverages public vehicles (i.e., public buses), in proximity by using their computational power to manage computational latency and cost. Furthermore, it also considers the shareable computations from passengers’ mobile equipment within the public vehicle to improve the computation capacity of the public vehicles. Extensive evaluations and numerical results show that the proposed MCLA scheme significantly improves the task turnover ratio by 4%–15% with 4.7%–29.8% lower transmission and computation costs. © 2023, CC BY.

Biocomputing technologies exploit biological communication mechanisms involving cell-cell signal propagation to perform computations. Researchers recently worked toward realising logic gates made by neurons to develop novel devices such as organic neuroprostheses or brain implants made by cells, herein termed living implants. Several challenges arise from this approach, mainly associated with the stochastic nature and noise of neuronal communication. Since astrocytes play a crucial role in the regulation of neurons activity, there is a possibility whereby astrocytes can be engineered to control synapses favouring reliable biocomputing. This work proposes a mathematical model of neuronal logic gates involving neurons and astrocytes, realising OR and AND gating. We use a shallow coupling of both the Izhikevich and Postnov models to characterise gating responses with spike pattern variability and astrocyte synaptic regulation. Logic operation error ratio and accuracy assess the AND and OR gates’ performances at different synaptic Gaussian noise levels. Our results demonstrate that the astrocyte regulating activity can effectively be used as a denoising mechanism, paving the way for highly reliable biocomputing implementations. Integrating Natural Language Processing (NLP) with Generative Pre-trained Transformer (GPT) models plays a pivotal role in enhancing the accuracy and efficiency of healthcare software, which is essential for patient safety and providing high-quality care. The precision of healthcare software is fundamental to protecting the well-being of the patient. In addition, it can ensure the delivery of superior care, maintain the integrity of healthcare systems, and promote trust and cost-effectiveness. It is necessary to emphasize the importance of software reliability in its development and deployment. Symbolic execution serves as a vital technology in automated vulnerability detection. However, symbolic execution often faces problems such as path explosion, which seriously affects efficiency. Although there have been several studies to reduce the number of computational paths in symbolic execution, this problem remains a major obstacle. Therefore, more efficient solutions are urgently needed to ensure the software security. This paper proposes a large-scale language model(LLM) induction method mitigating path explosion applied to symbolic execution engines. In contrast to traditional symbolic execution engines, which often result in timeout or out-of-memory detection, our approach achieves the task of detecting vulnerabilities in seconds. Furthermore, our proposal improves the scalability of symbolic execution, allowing more extensive and complex programs to be analyzed without significant increases in computational resources or time. This scalability is crucial to tackling modern software systems and improving the efficiency and effectiveness of automated defect verification in healthcare software. © 2025 IEEE. In this correspondence, we propose a movable antenna (MA)-aided multi-user hybrid beamforming scheme with a sub-connected structure, where multiple movable sub-arrays can independently change their positions within different local regions. To maximize the system sum rate, we jointly optimize the digital beamformer, analog beamformer, and positions of subarrays, under the constraints of unit modulus, finite movable regions, and power budget. Due to the non-concave/non-convex objective function/constraints, as well as the highly coupled variables, the formulated problem is challenging to solve. By employing fractional programming, we develop an alternating optimization framework to solve the problem via a combination of Lagrange multipliers, penalty method, and gradient descent. Numerical results reveal that the proposed MA-aided hybrid beamforming scheme significantly improves the sum rate compared to its fixed-position antenna (FPA) counterpart. Moreover, with sufficiently large movable regions, the proposed scheme with sub-connected MA arrays even outperforms the fully-connected FPA array. Copyright © 2024, The Authors. This study was conducted to predict students' academic performance in a Mathematic course based on a case study among Portuguese secondary schools. A classification model is developed to explore different data mining algorithms that well represent the case study, which include the Logistic Regression, Boosted Decision Tree, Decision Forest, and Support Vector Machine. The results showed that the best classification performance is achieved with Boosted Decision Trees that outperformed Random Forests through the boosting capability. It is hoped that the findings from this paper will suggest effective methods for performance prediction in order to improve the quality of education resources. © 2021 IEEE.
