Image annotation is a challenging problem due to the rapid growing of real world image archives. In this paper, we propose a novel approach to the solving of this problem based on a variant of the support vector clustering (SVC) algorithm, i.e., the support vector description of clusters. The system has two major components, the training process and the annotating process. In the training process, clusters of image manually annotated by descriptive words are used as training instances. Each cluster is described by a one-cluster SVC model. The proposed model can exploit the advantage of SVC for its ability to delineate cluster boundaries of arbitrary shape. Moreover, the training process of the one-cluster SVC model is formulated as the process of building density estimator for underlying distribution of the cluster. In the annotating process, for a test image, the probability of this instance being generated by each model is computed. And then the relevant words are selected based on the obtained probabilities. Simulated experiments were conducted on the Corel60k data set. The results demonstrate the performance of the proposed algorithm, compared with the performance of other algorithms.

A fault identification algorithm of principal component space (PCS) information reconstruction based on T 2 statistic have been proposed aiming at the defect of difficulty to effectively identify the fault, that qualitative diagnosis can only be implemented using traditional variable contribution rate and the data reconstruction method based on Q statistic ignores the fault information of PCS. The reconstruction value, T 2 statistic and its control limits are obtained on the basis of defining fault subspace and using the normal process data to calculate reconstructed index and reconstructing the fault data in PCS. In this paper the lincomycin fermentation process is studied and the sensor faults are set and identified by statistical model based on PCA. The results have shown that the method used has good capability in diagnosis and recognize ability.

Gaussian process classifiers (GPCs) have recently attracted more and more attention from the machine learning community. However, because the posterior needs to be approximated by using a tractable Gaussian distribution, they usually suffer from high computational cost which is prohibitive for practical applications. In this paper, we present a new Gaussian process model termed as twin Gaussian processes for binary classification. The basic idea is to make predictions based on two latent functions with Gaussian process prior, each of which is close to one of the two classes and is as far as possible from the other. Being compared with the published GPCs, the proposed algorithm allows for an explicit inference based on analytical methods, thereby avoiding the high computational cost caused by approximating the posterior with Gaussian distribution. Experimental results on several benchmark data sets show that the proposed algorithm is valid and can achieve superior performance to the published algorithms.

Aiming at the features of environmental information monitoring, a multi-parameter monitoring system is designed based on low-power ZigBee wireless communication technology to improve overall the level of system automation and monitoring. By wireless sensor networks the data is collected and processed real-time and at the receiving end the data is received, saved and displayed to achieve temperature and humidity monitoring. The implementation of system software and hardware are given, including the design of wireless node and the implementation principle of data transmission and communication modules. This system overcomes the limitations of wired sensor networks and has the properties of flexible networking for monitoring equipment, convenient removing, low cost nodes and high capacity. The monitoring results for temperature and humidity have shown that this system is stable, high reliable in data transmission and easy to use, and can be widely used in various areas of automatic monitoring of environmental parameters.
