The Australian National Electricity Market (NEM) continues to move from a predominantly government owned and managed market to a more competitive, commercial one. Hence, transmission pricing plays an important role in NEM transmission network business. Currently, the NEM has been using the Cost Reflective Network Pricing (CRNP) and Modified Cost Reflective Network Pricing (MCNRP) method for transmission service charges. The drawbacks of both methods are (1) the load is burden with high transmission use of system (TUoS) charges as this charges is only paid by load (2) inaccurate transmission pricing method as the contribution of counter flows and local load case are totally being neglected. Hence, in this paper, a novel transmission pricing method which is called Distribution Factors Enhanced Transmission Pricing (DFETP) method is introduced in order to increase the utilization efficiency of the network as well as to promote the green technology in a market environment.

In this paper, a new approach in predicting the hardness of Titanium Aluminum Nitrite (TiAlN) coatings using hybrid RSM-fuzzy model is implemented. TiAlN coatings are usually used in high-speed machining due to its excellent surface hardness and wear resistance. The TiAlN coatings were produced using Physical Vapor Deposition (PVD) magnetron sputtering process. A statistical design of experiment called Response Surface Methodology (RSM) was used in collecting optimized data. The fuzzy rules were constructed using actual experimental data. Meanwhile, the hardness values were generated using the RSM hardness model. Triangular shape of membership functions were used for inputs as well as output. The substrate sputtering power, bias voltage and temperature were selected as the input parameters and the coating hardness as an output of the process. The results of hybrid RSM-fuzzy model were compared against the experimental result and fuzzy single model based on the percentage error, mean square error (MSE), co-efficient determination (R 2 ) and model accuracy. The result indicated that the hybrid RSM-fuzzy model obtained the better result compared to the fuzzy single model. The hybrid model with seven triangular membership functions gave an excellent result with respective average percentage error, MSE, R 2 and model accuracy were 11.5%, 1.09, 0.989 and 88.49%. The good performance of the hybrid model showed that the RSM hardness model could be embedded in fuzzy rule-based model to assist in generating more fuzzy rules in order to obtain better prediction result.

Ferrofluid-based liquid manipulation schemes typically actuate an immiscible liquid via a ferrofluid plug, using high magnetic flux (∼1 T) densities and strong field gradients created with bulky permanent magnets. They rely on surface tension effects to maintain the cohesion of the ferrofluid plug, necessitating miniature channels and slow (∼1 μl/min) flow speeds. Here, we demonstrate direct ferrohydrodynamic pumping using traveling magnetic fields at controllable speeds in a simple, closed-loop geometry without any mechanically actuated components. The pumping approach is compact, scalable, and practical. Using moderate field amplitudes (∼10 mT), we obtained a maximum volumetric flow rate of 0.69 ml/s using a readily available commercial ferrofluid. Our closed-loop pumping approach could lead to integrated and efficient liquid manipulation and cooling schemes based on ferrofluids.

Energy resource constraints inherent in wireless sensor network deployments limit the amount of data that can be transported to a destination sink. An alternative strategy that could be invoked to address this issue is to only report the data sample when there is significant change in the sensed data from sensor nodes, and reconstruct the unreported data at the base station without compromising the needs of the application. It is shown that judicious reporting of data significantly reduces the number of packets that are transmitted. In this paper,a mechanism that adopts these principles, referred to as Abstract Reporting and Reformation (ARR), is proposed and demonstrated.
