The electron‐phonon interaction in one‐dimensional array of Si dots interconnected with oxide layers is theoretically examined. The folded electron/phonon energy dispersion relations and rigorous phonon normal mode calculation are incorporated. The acoustic deformation potential scattering is weakened due to the strain absorption by the oxide layers. Electron energy loss is strongly suppressed near the bottom of a miniband due to restriction of high‐energy phonon emission.

In this paper, a new hybrid impulsive and switching control strategy for chaos synchronization is developed. Using switched Lyapunov functions, several new criteria for exponential stability and asymptotical stability of hybrid impulsive and switching nonlinear systems are established and, particularly, some simple sufficient conditions for driving the synchronization error to zero are proposed. A typical example, the Chua's chaotic circuit, is given for illustrating and visualizing the theoretical results.

Power system angle stability can be improved by a wide variety of controls. Some methods have been used effectively for many years, both at generating plants and in transmission network. In this paper, two methods are proposed to improve control stability. The first consists to find the critical clearing time (CCT) by equal area stability criterion and numerical integration. The second interests to fuzzy logic controllers. For this last method, we present the nonlinear model with a Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy model. Then a model-based in fuzzy controller design utilizing the concept of the so-called "parallel distributed compensation" (PDC) is employed. Stability analysis and control design problems can be reduced to linear matrix inequality (LMI) problems. Therefore, they can be solved efficiently in practice by convex programming techniques for LMI's. A single machine infinite bus system is analysed with the proposed methods.

Traditional centralized management solutions do not scale to present-day large-scale computer/communication networks. They suffer from certain other drawbacks too: a single point of failure and hence lack of fault tolerance, and heavy communication costs associated with the central manager. It has been recognized that the decentralization/distributed solutions can solve some of the problems associated with centralized solutions. A new theoretical multi-level paradigm called ML-ADSD (Thulasraman et al. (2003)) assumes that all nodes in the same cluster are symmetric for multi-level adaptive distributed diagnosis algorithms for fully connected networks which is not true and cannot be realized in real life. In this paper, we propose a new algorithm called asymmetric multi-level adaptive distributed diagnosis algorithms, AML-ADSD. In this new algorithm, node parameters are to be classified using a standard benchmark program. Then, each node's performance can be calculated.

Parameter estimation of an autoregressive movmg average (ARMA) model is discussed in this paper by using bounding approach. Bounds on the model structure error are assumed unknown, or known but conservative. To reduce this conservatism, a point-parametric model concept is proposed, where there exist a set of model parameters and structure error corresponding to each input. Feasible parameter sets are defined for point-parametric model. Bounded values on the model parameters and structure error can then be computed jointly by tightening the feasible set using observations under deliberately designed input excitations. Finally, a constantly bounded parameter model is established, which can be used for robust control.
