The authors present a feed circuit for the flat energy density antenna for mobile telephone, and measurement results on its input characteristics and radiation pattern at 1.5 GHz. The correlation coefficient between ring patch and notch antenna of less than 0.1 is small enough for diversity branches. To verify the diversity effect of this antenna, the authors measured urban propagation characteristics at 900 MHz and compared them with results for a space diversity antenna. It is confirmed that the flat energy density antenna is appropriate for the diversity antenna of a mobile telephone.< >

Kerr electro-optic field mapping measurements using the sensitive AC modulation method were made in liquid nitrogen. The steady-state electric fields between parallel stainless steel electrodes that had a gap of 7 mm are shown to be essentially uniform for voltages up to 70 kV with no significant space charge distortion. The Kerr constant B of liquid nitrogen is constant over the AC modulation frequency range of 1-20 kHz, while increasing above 20 kHz. This change of B with the modulation frequency coincides with the frequency-amplitude gain characteristic of the lock-in amplifier used, so that B is independent of the AC modulation frequency within the range of this study. B monotonically decreases with increasing temperature, T, thus decreasing liquid nitrogen density, rho , so that B is related linearly to rho /T. The polarizability anisotropy of liquid nitrogen is evaluated to be 8.3*10/sup -41/ F-m/sup 2/ from the slope of the B-( rho /T) characteristic, obtained from a simple physical model.< >

HIGIPS, which employs a combination of pipeline architecture and multiprocessor architecture, is a high-speed, high-performance, and low-cost N*(M+1) multi-microprocessor parallel machine, where N is the number of pipeline stages and M+1 is the number of processors in each stage. The application of HIGIPS to the recognition of a pendulumlike motion is discussed. From this experiment, it is clear that HIGIPS can efficiently perform dynamic image processing and recognition.< >

The system is based on the assembly of a notch array cut into the circular disk of a ring patch antenna. The measured input impedance characteristics and radiation pattern of the antenna are presented. A class of sequential and adaptive algorithms for parameter estimation are presented that are based on the iterative estimate-maximize (EM) algorithm. In some cases sequential algorithms are derived that perform an exact EM step in each recursion; an example for these cases is given for the linear least-squares problem. In general, however, it is necessary to approximate the EM iteration in order to develop sequential algorithms. The sufficient condition is significantly less restrictive than a recently derived one [1]. If such a controller exists, it may readily be computed.

Single crystalline GaAs0.6P0.4 is grown on (100)2° off Si substrate by metalorganic chemical vapor deposition with the intermediate layers of GaP, (GaP/GaAsP) superlattice and (GaAsP/GaAs) superlattice. PL intensity of GaAs0.6P0.4/Si is about 40% of commercially available GaAs0.6P0.4 grown on GaAs substrate by VPE. Very smooth mirror-like surface is obtained and no crosshatch pattern such as is seen on GaAs0.6P0.4 on GaAs is observed on GaAs0.6P0.4/Si surface.

This paper describes another computational algorithm for the discrete Fourier transform(DFT) via the discrete Walsh transform(DWT). The number of multiplications required by this algorithm is approximately NL/9 where N is the number of data points and L is the number of Fourier coefficients desired. This number shows a 33 % decrease against NL/6 in the previous algorithm published by us. The proposed algorithm can be derived by using conventional sampling points in the DFT. The DFT computation via the DWT is superior to the fast Fourier transform(FFT) approach in applications where L is relatively small compared with N and where the Walsh and Fourier coefficients are both desired.
