This correspondence investigates the novel fluid antenna system (FAS) technology, combining with reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) for wireless communications, where a base station (BS) communicates with a FAS-enabled user with the assistance of a RIS. To analyze this technology, we derive the outage probability based on the block-diagonal matrix approximation (BDMA) model. With this, we obtain the upper bound, lower bound, and asymptotic approximation of the outage probability to gain more insights. Moreover, we design the phase shift matrix of the RIS in order to minimize the system outage probability. Simulation results confirm the accuracy of our approximations and that the proposed schemes outperform benchmarks significantly. © 2025 IEEE.

In the current era of seamless integration across various contexts, the ability to track mobility both indoors and outdoors has become crucial for many individuals. Tracking the path of mobility from the initial point to the final destination is essential in numerous aspects of human life. This study presents a location-aware computing application that facilitates the smooth integration of indoor and outdoor environments by combining both requirements within a smart device-based system, without any barriers. The proposed work utilizes the Global Positioning System (GPS) and the Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) to measure external conditions, while Wi-Fi Fingerprinting (Wi-Fi) is employed to accurately determine the user's indoor locations using received signal strength indicator. The integration of indoor and outdoor technologies ensures seamless user mobility. As users transition between different conditions, the system effectively addresses the complexities that arise between indoor and outdoor locations. The transition time between indoor and outdoor is less than 5 seconds, with seamless switching occurring in the overlapped areas. In our experiments conducted within a campus building, the system achieved a remarkable accuracy of 98.4% for outdoor-to-indoor movement and 97.7% for the reverse movement. Furthermore, the seamless location system offers significant benefits to users, including the discovery of new system features, access to directional maps, and guidance along pathways from their current locations.

In view of the special dispatching demand of isolated islands in the low-density period of renewable energy power generation, the defects of traditional dispatching mode applying in isolated power generation system is analyzed, and the idea of reasonably extending the daily scheduling cycle is proposed to adapt to the application of flexible energy resources in the form of energy package under various uncertain scenarios. Under the multi-party cooperative power supply strategy of isolated islands, we analyze the shortcomings of key element modeling. The global optimal model of energy scheduling of isolated islands considering low-density energy output period is constructed based on refined element model, and the corresponding solution method is proposed for the nonlinear constraints. The reasonability and effectiveness of the refined model, global optimal model and the assumption of extended scheduling cycle are verified by theoretical analysis and case simulation. © 2024, The Authors. Automotive simulation can potentially compensate for a lack of training data in computer vision applications. However, there has been little to no image quality evaluation of automotive simulation and the impact of optical degradations on simulation is little explored. In this work, we investigate Virtual KITTI and the impact of applying variations of Gaussian blur on image sharpness. Furthermore, we consider object detection, a common computer vision application on three different state-of-the-art models, thus allowing us to characterize the relationship between object detection and sharpness. It was found that while image sharpness (MTF50) degrades from an average of 0.245cy/px to approximately 0.119cy/px;object detection performance stays largely robust within 0.58%(Faster RCNN), 1.45%(YOLOF) and 1.93%(DETR) across all respective held-out test sets. © This is an open access article published by the IET under the Creative Commons Attribution License (http://***/licenses/by/3.0/)

Reconfigurable intelligent surface (RIS) assisted communication is recognized as a promising technology in academia and industry because it offers a novel and promising solution for implementing both secure and good-quality wireless communication networks. The paper proposes installing an RIS on a sweeping robot to act as the mobile passive relay, which can flexibly deploy the location of RIS and enhance communication capacity. In this paper, the maximization problem of user throughput is formulated, and we jointly optimize transmission power at AP and reflection phase shifts at RIS. It is difficult to deal with the optimization problem. Therefore, we separate the two variables into two subproblems, i.e., the transmit power optimization problem and the reflection phase-shift optimization problem. We can solve these problems by semidefinite relaxation (SDR) and alternating optimization algorithms. The simulation results demonstrate the advantages of the proposed algorithm, which enhances the communication capacity efficiently.

This article presents a multi-layer hexad-polarization compatible reconfigurable square shaped patch antenna. With an intent to use in the sub–6 GHz spectrum, the proposed antenna’s polarization can be switched among horizontal linear polarization (LP), vertical LP, slant ±45° LP, right-hand circular polarization (RHCP), and left-hand CP (LHCP) by controlling PIN diodes in switchable feed network. By incorporating two orthogonal aperture-coupled switchable feed networks and a 180° phase shifter, the proposed antenna can operate at single or dual feeding mode. The horizontal and vertical LP can be attained by exciting single port. On the other hand, slant +45° LP, –45° LP, RHCP, and LHCP can be achieved by switchable dual port excitation. Low cross-polarization and high isolation in each mode make the proposed antenna more attractive for wireless applications. The proposed antenna has 10-dB impedance bandwidth of 1.19% for LP, 0.89% for LHCP, and 1.19% for RHCP. Moreover, 3-dB axial ratio (AR) bandwidth of 5.97% for RHCP and 7.19% for LHCP are attained. An innovative issue in food engineering is using the impulse electric field (PEF) in modeling the content of biologically active compounds in plant raw materials, including seeds. In the described experiment it was shown that it is possible to modify the carotenoid content in germinating seeds of red clover (Trifolium pratense L.) by treating the seeds with PEF before cultivation. The research material was the seeds of red clover 'Rozeta' variety. As a result of the conducted research, an increase in the content of lutein and zaaxanthin by 10% and β-carotene by 16% was obtained after the sprouts were subjected to a field of 5 kV/cm intensity. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Tea cultivation, a globally significant industry across over 60 countries, requires effective management of tea nurseries for robust plant growth and disease control. Implementing automated disease detection in tea nurseries using advanced technologies enhances efficiency, precision, and sustainability compared to manual inspection methods. An image acquisition system incorporating a Deep Convolutional Neural Network (DCNN) was developed as a cost-effective automated solution for nursery disease detection. First, images of Blister Blight (BB) disease in tea plants were collected primarily from various estates. These images were then preprocessed, labeled, and augmented to create a robust dataset. Two models based on the YOLOv5 architecture were trained, with the second model benefiting from dataset augmentation and enhanced labeling. The Improved Model achieved a mean Average Precision (mAP) of 80.6% at a 0.5 threshold, demonstrating its high accuracy in BB detection in tea nurseries. It was integrated with the image acquisition system to enable continuous monitoring of tea leaves in nursery plantations and facilitate the immediate detection of BB diseases. This system holds significant potential for further enhancement in disease management across the tea industry, promoting healthier crops, reducing costs, and minimizing environmental impact.

As in the binary case, ternary bent functions are a very small portion of the set of all ternary functions for a given number of variables. For example, for n = 2, there are 486 ternary bent functions out of 19683 ternary functions, which is 2, 47%, and this number reduces exponentially with the increase of n. However, finding, or alternatively, constructing them is a challenging task. A possible approach is based upon the manipulation of known ternary bent functions to construct other ternary bent functions. In this paper, we define Gibbs permutation matrices derived from the Gibbs derivative with respect to the Vilenkin-Chrestenson transform and propose their usage in constructing bent functions. The method can be extended to p-valued bent functions, where p is a prime larger than 3.
