The growing demand for reliable and sustainable energy has driven researchers and engineers to explore renewable energy sources to complement traditional power grids. Wind energy conversion systems (WECS), particularly those using permanent magnet synchronous generators (PMSG), are among the most widely adopted renewable energy solutions. Integrating WECS into traditional grids introduces challenges, including power system oscillations, especially during disturbances or faults. Inertia control and power electronics converters are pivotal in mitigating these oscillations and ensuring grid stability. This review investigates the design and optimization of damping controllers, emphasizing their integration with excitation systems to enhance the dynamic performance of PMSG-based wind integrated grids. Additionally, the role of power electronics in control strategies and inertia emulation for stable grid operation is discussed. The findings highlight the critical importance of advanced control measures in addressing the inherent uncertainties of renewable energy systems integrated with conventional grids.

The study of computer vision and pattern recognition is growing because of the various commercial and practical applications of these disciplines. Identification of individuals in a multitude, access control, forensics, and human-computer interactions are only among the topics studied by these areas. However, analyzing unconstrained face recognition poses ethical issues and privacy concerns. Many recent proposals employ Holistic Methods, Geometric Approach and Local-Texture Approach, methods and databases like ORL, FERET and AR Dataset to study constrained face recognition. At least some understanding of 2D perspective was achieved. This occurred in highly controlled environments where parameters such as camera angles, lighting and distance were strictly regulated. However, significant degradation in recognition performance occurred if the environment changed or the subject smiled or frowned. This critique discusses the technology utilized in face recognition, as well as the databases of methods that utilize this technology. To help guide future research, this article discusses current knowledge and suggests future directions for study in the field of facial recognition.

Recently, attention-based multiple instance learning (MIL) methods have received more concentration in histopathology whole slide image (WSI) applications. However, existing attention-based MIL methods rarely consider the cross-channel information interaction of pathology images when identifying discriminant patches. Additionally, they also have limitations on capturing the correlation between different discriminant instances for the bag-level classification. To address these challenges, we present a novel attention-based MIL model (AMIL-Trans) for breast cancer WSI classification. AMIL-Trans first embeds the efficient channel attention to realize the cross-channel interaction of pathology images, thus computing more robust features for instance selection without introducing too much computation cost. Then, it leverages vision Transformer encoder to directly aggregate selected instance features for better bag-level prediction, which effectively considers the correlation between different discriminant instances. Experiment results illustrate that AMIL-Trans respectively achieves its optimal AUC of 94.27% and 84.22% on the Camelyon-16 dataset and MSK external validation dataset, demonstrating the competitive performance compared with state-of-the-art MIL methods on breast cancer WSI classification task. With face recognition, machine learning is one of the computer sciences fields that is getting bigger the quickest. The goal of this study is to give a basic overview of machine learning and the algorithmic paradigms it provides. The study gives a detailed explanation of the basic ideas behind machine learning and the math that turns these ideas into methodologies that can be used in the real world, and discusses and compares the performance of various face recognition methods. Machine learning, a field of AI, has emerged as an important part of the digitizing approaches that have attracted a lot of interest. The purpose of this work is to provide a high-level overview of several of the most widely utilized and commonly used algorithmic techniques for machine learning currently available. The goal of this work is to help readers make educated decisions about the best algorithm for machine learning they should employ for a given task by highlighting the benefits and drawbacks of each method from an implementation point of view.

This paper designs a microstrip patch antenna using rubber substrate with different concentration of carbon filler which are rubber with 0% carbon filler (Natural Rubber), rubber with 20% of carbon filler, rubber with 25% of carbon filler and rubber with 50% of carbon filler. The performance of the antennas designed are analyzed and compared with other commonly proposed flexible substrate which are Polydimethylsiloxane (PDMS) and RO3003. The performance of the antennas is compared based on the return loss of the antenna, bandwidth of the antenna and gain of the antenna. The effect of antenna bending to the performance of the antenna are also executed in this paper. Different bending angle in term of the cylindrical radius are applied to the antenna to further study the impact of the bending to the performance of the antenna. © 2021 IEEE.

This paper proposes a multi-objective model predictive control (MPC) for a grid-connected ten-switch three-phase three-level inverter. The main objective of the proposed MPC method is to control the grid current. In addition, the voltage balancing of the DC capacitors in the ten-switch three-level inverter is essential to generate voltage levels properly. Therefore, two objectives need to be achieved simultaneously. The multi-objective cost function feature of the MPC method is used to achieve these objectives. The simulation studies are performed using MATLAB/Simulink environments to investigate the effectiveness of the proposed MPC method. The results show that the proposed control method exhibits accurate performance under steady-state conditions and fast dynamic responses under transient conditions. Moreover, the grid current spectrums show that the total harmonic distortion is 2.21% in normal operation, and it is under the desired limits, even with a 50% parameter mismatch in filter inductance. © 2024 IEEE.

Non-Binary Low-Density Parity-Check (LDPC) codes have gained significant attention due to their remarkable error correction capabilities in various communication systems. Decoding algorithms play a pivotal role in realizing the potential of non-binary LDPC codes. This paper provides a comprehensive review and analysis of non-binary LDPC decoding algorithms, focusing on their efficiency, complexity, and performance. Furthermore, recent advancements and innovations in non-binary LDPC decoding algorithms are discussed, such as improved message passing strategies, layered decoding techniques, and adaptive algorithms. The review also highlights challenges and open research directions in non-binary LDPC decoding, such as mitigating error floors, reducing decoding complexity, and integrating with emerging communication technologies. Finally, the paper draws conclusions on the current state of non-binary LDPC decoding algorithms, underscoring their promising applications in wireless communication, visible light communication (VLC), and power line communication (PLC). Simulation results demonstrate a marked improvement in bit error rate performance for both VLC and PLC systems, highlighting the practical potential of these advanced decoding techniques.

Sentiment analysis, or more specifically, the integration of IoMT into healthcare systems, requires frameworks that must adapt at runtime with high precision. Most existing methods have several limitations of either latency or accuracy issues, and therefore perform less effectively in dynamic scenarios. This study aims to address these challenges by proposing EmoSyn, a novel framework that incorporates Emotion Wave Modulation (EWM), Neuro-Cognitive Language Dynamics (NCLD), and the Sentient IoMT Interaction Protocol (SIP). EWM generates dynamic emotional waveforms using high-dimensional feature vectors and kernelized mappings, while NCLD employs synthetic neural mappings and adaptive linguistic modeling to capture semantic transitions. SIP facilitates real-time IoMT recalibration through bidirectional sentiment-driven feedback. Implemented using mathematical frameworks and a custom Emotion-Aware Predictive Synthesis Algorithm (EAPSA), EmoSyn ensures precise sentiment interpretation and efficient IoMT interactions. The framework was evaluated using MOSEI and MIMIC-III datasets in a Python-based simulation environment. The results showed EmoSyn achieving 91% precision for MOSEI and 86% for MIMIC-III, with average latencies of 29 ms and 27 ms. © 2013 IEEE.

The exclusive reliance on the average run length (ARL) as a control scheme's performance metric has drawn a lot of criticisms in the literature. This is because the form and skewness of the run length distribution changes depending on the amount of the mean shift in any process, making interpretation based only on the ARL potentially inaccurate. Therefore, when the process parameters are estimated (U-Case), we take into account the median run length (MRL) performance metric for the Shewhart median scheme. To demonstrate how to apply the U-Case Shewhart median scheme, we provide an example for smart manufacturing using a dataset related to the forged piston ring manufacturing process. © 2024 IEEE.

In the article, a 3-D wideband polarization-rotating surface (PRS) is presented. The proposed until cell is made of a slotline-microstrip-slotline scheme, which is linearly coupled on orthogonal printed circuit boards (PCBs). The microstrip is turned at right angle to couple the two slotline. Under the incidence of linear polarization parallel to the slotline, the incident spatial waves are transformed into guided waves, and then coupled to the microstrip. Subsequently, the incident waves are reconverted into the free space with an orthogonal direction, resulting in wideband 90° polarization rotation. To simplify the design procedure, a transmission-line circuit model is first constructed and synthesized with equal-ripple Chebyshev function. The circuit parameters can be achieved from the specified fractional bandwidth (FBW) and return loss (RL). As an example, a fifth-order with FBW of 110% and RL of 10 dB is designed and simulated, whose physical parameters are accurately extracted from the calculated circuit parameters. Good agreement is observed between the simulated and the theoretical results.
