A novel Caching-at-STARS structure, where dedicated smart controller and cache memory are installed at the STARS, is proposed to satisfy user demands with fewer hops and desired channel condition. Then, a joint caching replacement and information-centric hybrid beamforming optimization problem is formulated for minimizing the network power consumption. We conceive a cooperative twin delayed deep deterministic policy gradient & deep-Q network (TD3-DQN) algorithm comprised by TD3 and DQN agents to decide on continuous and discrete variables respectively by observing the network external and internal environment. The numerical results demonstrate that: 1) The Caching-at-STARS-enabled edge caching system has advantages over traditional edge caching, especially in scenarios where Zipf skewness factors or cache capacity is large; 2) STARS outperforms RIS significantly in edge caching systems; 3) The proposed cooperative TD3-DQN algorithms is superior in reducing network power consumption than conventional TD3.

Reconfigurable Intelligent Surfaces (RIS) show great promise in the realm of 6th generation (6G) wireless systems, particularly in the areas of localization and communication. Their cost-effectiveness and energy efficiency enable the integration of numerous passive and reflective elements, enabling near-field propagation. In this paper, we tackle the challenges of RIS-aided 3D localization and synchronization in multipath environments, focusing on the near-field of mmWave systems. Specifically, our approach involves formulating a maximum likelihood (ML) estimation problem for the channel parameters. To initiate this process, we leverage a combination of canonical polyadic decomposition (CPD) and orthogonal matching pursuit (OMP) to obtain coarse estimates of the time of arrival (ToA) and angle of departure (AoD) under the far-field approximation. Subsequently, distances are estimated using l1-regularization based on a near-field model. Additionally, we introduce a refinement phase employing the spatial alternating generalized expectation maximization (SAGE) algorithm. Finally, a weighted least squares approach is applied to convert channel parameters into position and clock offset estimates. To extend the estimation algorithm to ultra-large (UL) RIS-assisted localization scenarios, it is further enhanced to reduce errors associated with far-field approximations, especially in the presence of significant near-field effects, achieved by narrowing the RIS aperture. Moreover, the Cramér-Rao Bound (CRB) is derived and the RIS phase shifts are optimized to improve the positioning accuracy. This paper evaluates the risk of ocular dystonia-a condition marked by excessive blinking-using electrooculography. A commercial bioamplifier is employed to capture the electrical activity of the eyes using dispensed surface electrodes. The continuous wavelet transform of the electrooculogram was estimated to identify the features related to involuntary eye-blinking behavior and make the classification. The signal processing is integrated into a novel application with a simple graphical user interface oriented to be used by physicians. The performance is evaluated using multiple evaluation measures. Results show that the proposed method succeeded in identifying an abnormal frequency of blinks with respective accuracy, precision, sensitivity, and specificity scores of 98.46%,96.51%,99.13%, and 96.41%.

Objective: Astrocytes control neuronal electrical activity both at the cellular levels by ionic and gliotransmitter balancing, as well as at the network level. In this work, we aim to study how astrocytes control electrophysiological activity during network formation. Methods: Here we use a combination of spike/burst analysis and complex analysis of the raw neuronal signals to assess the role of astrocytes on microelectrode arrays (MEA). MEA signals are often converted to binary strings of the spike timestamps to conduct spike and burst analyses;however, the raw signals can offer further information about the influence of astrocytes on neuronal electrical activity. We cultured rat primary cortical neurons and astrocytes on 60-electrode MEAs with different neuron/astrocyte ratios ranging from "pure" neuronal cultures (NS) without separately added astrocytes to co-cultures containing 50% neurons and 50% astrocytes. We analyzed the spike and burst rates, as well as the complexity-entropy causality planes of the signals to deeply study the patterning of the neuronal signals. Moreover, we classified the spike waveforms from the NS and the co-cultures based on their signal properties. Results: By combining different analysis techniques, as well as using fixed cell proportions in the co-cultures, we showed that astrocytes desynchronize the network and reduce repetitiveness in the signals. Our analysis also indicates that astrocytes affect the repolarization phase of the action potentials. Significance: Our work highlights that it is crucial to go beyond standard analysis to assess how astrocytes control neuronal cultures and investigate any dysfunction that could potentially result in neuronal hyperactivity. © 2023, CC BY.

In contemporary email communication, the ever- expanding volume of digital correspondence has ushered in an era where big data plays a pivotal role in addressing the challenge of distinguishing between legitimate (ham) and unsolicited (spam) emails. The primary objective of this paper is the meticulous identification and establishment of criteria for the discrimination between ham and spam emails. To achieve this, the study harnesses data from three distinct datasets, aiming to identify common attributes shared across all emails, irrespective of their classification, while concurrently devising methodologies for precise spam detection. Central to this endeavor is the evaluation of the effectiveness of feature selection techniques, specifically Chi-Square and Pearson Correlation, in elevating the accuracy of email classification. The investigation extends to assessing how the combination of these feature selection techniques with the broader machine learning framework can be optimized. This optimization entails the application of diverse preprocessing techniques to the datasets, all designed to amplify the precision of email classification. Furthermore, this research scrutinizes the performance evaluation metrics employed in the assessment of email classifiers. By conducting comprehensive experiments, the study identifies optimal classifiers based on rigorous evaluation metrics. This contributes valuable insights to the toolkit of techniques for proficient email classification within the realm of big data analysis.

Face recognition is a relatively novel research field, and its application is closely related to numerous other areas. Moreover, it is emerging as a critical research theme due to its broad range of applications. Thus, many face recognition methods use a variety of feature extraction approaches. Nonetheless, the issue continues to be challenging, particularly identifying non-biological entities. This paper proposes an extended descriptor for local features of an effectual facial recognition system using a local directional pattern operator. This technique combines the Frei-Chen and Robinson masks' strengths by fusion of the directional features of LDP for these two masks;this elicits a robust feature extraction method for distinguishing faces. Experimental results using the Yale database show that the extended descriptor considerably improved recognition rate and better performance than traditional local feature descriptors. © 2021 Institute of Physics Publishing. In electrical energy distribution, losses are a challenging problem, among these losses electricity theft plays a prominent role. Not only Pakistan but many other countries throughout the world face this challenge. This paper presents a system based on smart meter to detect the approximate location of electricity theft. Along with electricity theft detection, this paper also proposes a system for the elimination of illegal consumers. The approach used is that the total energy is compared with the legally consumed energy. For communication between the meters wireless communication techniques are used including Global System for Mobile Communications (GSM) and Network Repository Function (NRF).

The paper presents a family of novel light blob shape descriptors for use in selected active safety algorithms used in Advanced Driver Assistance Systems (ADAS). One of the motivations was to obtain a descriptor that would ensure low computational complexity. This makes it easy to implement both in software and hardware. One assumption is that the location of the center of a given light spot is approximately known. The principle of its operation is then to count white pixels in selected directions, starting from this central point. A key issue here is an efficient way of determining indexes of particular pixels belonging to the image patch, as well as the location of points representing places where the white area turns into black. In the case of a hardware implementation, this can be done using a parallel circuit operating in asynchronous mode, without the need for a control clock.

The design of a 180° output phase difference Wilkinson power divider for L-band applications is detailed in this article. The Wilkinson power is generated through the utilization of the parallel coupler's phase shifter. To showcase the potential of the suggested power divider, an FR4 microwave substrate is fabricated with a narrow band of 1.6 GHz to accommodate radio astronomy systems. The insertion loss, return loss, and isolation loss for the power divider's difference phase are accurately simulated at the operational frequency.
