In this paper, a flexible wearable antenna based on uniform circular array of four identical microstrip patch antennas on a felt textile substrate was designed to generate multiple orbital angular momentum (OAM) modes. The proposed antenna was simulated and analyzed to confirm the generation of OAM mode +1 and -1. The concept of reconfigurable method with 16 p-i-n diodes was implemented for the switching purpose. The proposed antenna covered overall bandwidth above 700 MHz for both the modes in free space while the obtained gain by mode 1 was 1.981 dBi and mode -1 was 1.993 dBi. Moreover, the mode purity analysis was carried out to verify the generation of OAM mode +1 and -1 with acceptable SAR value. The purity obtained was 47.78% for mode +1 and 47.91% for mode -1 at free space. This study shows that using textile antennas for modal multiplexing to produce multimode OAM waves is feasible in order to increase channel capacity and spectrum efficiency. © 2024 IEEE.

Environmental monitoring and educational accessibility face significant challenges due to the complexity and high cost of traditional satellite systems. Addressing these issues requires a cost-effective solution that enables comprehensive study and intervention to improve environmental conditions. In this paper, we introduce CanSat, a compact satellite designed for educational and research purposes, utilizing off-the-shelf components and a 3D-printed frame to streamline operations and focus on critical processes such as modeling and communication. Equipped with a microcontroller (Esp32) and an RF communication (LoRa Module). CanSat efficiently processes and transmits data, including real-time video, temp, and %RH (% Relative humidity), to ground stations. The CanSat's performance was observed through successful data transmission and global accessibility of data visualization and analysis. The results indicated reliable operation, with data visualization and analysis accessible worldwide through customized web pages and real-time tracking capabilities, demonstrating CanSat's potential as a user-friendly and cost-effective platform for near-space exploration © 2024 IEEE.

Several meta-heuristic algorithms have gained attention for addressing large-scale optimization problems (LSOPs). However, their effectiveness is limited when dealing with LSOPs that involve expensive objective functions because the significant number of objective evaluations required before identifying the optimal solution. In this paper, two sets of subproblems are op-timized, assisted by surrogate models, to collaboratively explore the optimal solution space for large-scale expensive optimization problems (LSEOPs). A variant of particle swarm optimization (PSO), engineered to accelerate convergence, is proposed to search for the optimal solution for each subproblem. Moreover, a novel infill criterion is introduced, where the solution with the maximum expected improvement in the first set of subproblems and the solution with the minimum objective value discovered so far in the second set of subproblems are selected. Then, their mean position will be evaluated using the real objective function. Experimental findings on 15 CEC2013 benchmark problems show that our proposed approach outperforms four state-of-the-art algorithms in solving expensive large-scale optimization problems with up to 1000 decision variables. © 2024 IEEE.

This paper presents a hardware and software of an electrooculogram (EOG) acquisition system based on ATmega AVR microcontroller for the acquisition of vertical and horizontal eye movements. The presented system is used to acquire a dataset of eye movements for volunteers. This system gives two channels representing vertical and horizontal EOG signals. The frequency range of the EOG signal is known to be 0.1 to 10 Hz, and hence this frequency range is isolated with a High-Pass Filter (HPF) with a cutoff frequency of 0.1 Hz followed by a Low-Pass Filter (LPF) with a cutoff frequency of 10 Hz. The EOG acquisition system is interfaced with an ATmega AVR microcontroller to acquire a dataset that can be used for controlling hardware such as Light Emitting Diodes (LEDs), wheelchair, and robot arm. The presented system is composed of EOG signal acquisition, Ag/AgCl electrodes, analog-to-digital converter through Arduino Mega 2560 board microcontroller unit, trainer board, laptop, keypad, and Liquid Crystal Display (LCD). The eye movement is detected by measuring the potential difference between cornea and retina using five Ag–Agcl disposable electrodes. Different volunteers of different ages at different times have been treated with the presented system to obtain data. Classified vertical and horizontal EOG signals and the basic eye movements e.g., open eye, left, right, up, and down can be used to control robots and wheelchairs for rehabilitation purposes. © 2023, The Author(s).

This article proposes a novel design approach for miniaturized, highly selective, self-packaged, and wide-stopband filtering slot antennas based on C- and T-type folded substrate integrated waveguide (C-/T-FSIW) cavities. Firstly, two forms of FSIW cavity are explored and analyzed. A new coupled C-type half-mode FSIW (C-HMFSIW) cavities are developed. A filtering antenna is proposed, employing a C-HMFSIW cavity for feeding and a slot-loaded C-FSIW cavity for radiation. By introducing cross-coupling between different resonators, a radiation null (RN) is achieved. To further enhance bandwidth and frequency selectivity, a new antenna configuration is developed using a C-HMFSIW cavity for feeding and a slot-loaded T-FSIW cavity for radiation. After loading the radiation slot, the T-FSIW cavity serves as two parts: one as the main radiator and the other as a parasitic radiator opposite to it. This configuration increases antenna bandwidth and generates an additional RN. Interestingly, adjusting the position of the radiation slot allows the RN to switch between the upper and lower stopbands. The antennas proposed in this work exhibit good stopband performance and compact size. Three filtering antenna prototypes are designed, fabricated, and measured, showing consistent results between measurements and simulations. © 1963-2012 IEEE.

Microgrids (MGs), which combine distributed energy resources (DERs) with energy storage systems (ESS), offer improved energy security, reliability and sustainability by utilizing renewable energy sources for subsequent use. However, single ESS options often face challenges such as short life cycles, low power density etc. More than one ESS can resolve the mentioned issues though it increases complexity and maintaining stability becomes an issue. This paper proposes an effective energy management strategy between two ESS namely battery and supercapacitor to increase energy security in MG. The proposed strategy is designed in such a way that one of the two ESS stays connected all the time to the DC bus to ensure uninterruptable power supply to loads. Due to the use of DC bus, the system complexity decreases as there is no need to control frequency. Two cases were considered to verify the performance of the proposed energy management strategy in Matlab/Simulink. In the first case, during the unavailability of supercapacitor, the battery supplies 50 W to the load in addition to PV whereas supercapacitor supplies 136 W in the absence of battery along with PV. Furthermore, it was shown that the absence of PV has no negative effect in terms of power flow by ESS to meet load demand. © 2025 IEEE.

This paper is to investigate the Proportional Integral (PI) controller that can be used with Indirect Filed Oriented Control (IFOC) mechanism. The PI controller used the parameters generated from the flux and speed estimator based on dq and park transformation of voltage and current inverter output. This estimator represents the sensorless technique that can be applied to the high-power AC motor rated at 20 Hp. The results are in good agreement where the estimator has less than 5% error between the speed estimator and reference speed controller which give faster response based on speed and flux controller with a superior performance on the IM speed. © 2023 IEEE.

The rapid advancement of technology has brought transformative changes in the field of the healthcare system in recent years. Since they can enhance the quality and accessibility of healthcare services, particularly for patients with chronic conditions or in rural regions, microcontroller-based health monitoring systems have been extensively researched and developed in recent years. This paper presents a system capable of multiple measurements and improved ability of health parameters with a cost-efficient solution with reliability and portability. The proposed system is able to measure the parameters at an accuracy of 97.8% in terms of heart rate, blood pressure, body temperature, and oxygen saturation. The system also proposes continuous monitoring of the patient's health status by collecting data from sensors attached to the patient's finger and transmitting it wirelessly to a central database via Blynk where the healthcare provider can monitor the results in real-time and provide immediate feedback. © 2023 IEEE.

In the presented work, a harmonic analysis has been implemented to determine the resonance occurrence node of the Sepic DC-DC converter. The simulation studies were implemented in MATLAB/Simulink. Two cases of transistor conduction are presented. The differential equations for describing the processes in the converter are presented. State space matrices are used to implement harmonic analysis. Simulation studies are obtained and comments are made on the advantages and disadvantages of the methods used. © 2024 IEEE.
