Fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) network system can transmit signal at a high speed level such as transmitting video, data and voice signals to the users. However, we do not know whether the send signals are in a good condition or not. Therefore, a community access television, CATV tester device is needed. An upgrading from first generation CATV tester unit, a wireless technology is applied through the implementation of audio video transmitter and receiver. This tester will display the received signal on the display panel, if the signal received by the CATV tester device is accompanied by undesired signals and noises, it will then indicate that the main (FTTH trunk line) is probably damaged and needed to be repaired. With the application of wireless technology, video signal that is transmitted through fiber optic cable located in the underground can be simply detected and determined whether it is functioning or not. An addition of solar panel as battery charger for power saving is also applied.

Fiber-to-the-home (FTTH) network system is used to transmit video, data and voice signals to users at a high speed level. Therefore, good signals are essential. Thus, to monitor the condition of the signals, a CATV tester device is needed. CATV tester device is designed to measure the CATV signals which are passing through the optical network unit (ONU) at the user's premises. A single mode optical fiber signal entering the ONU will be obtained by `tapping' method and the signal then will be fed into the CATV tester unit through optical cable connection. The signals will be converted into audio/video signal and be fed to display panel. This tester will display the received signal on the display panel; if the signal received by the CATV tester device is accompanied by undesired signals and noises, video displayed would degrade; it will then indicate that the main (FTTH trunk line) is probably damaged and needed to be repaired.

There are some fatigue damage estimation methods for an austenitic stainless steel that uses martensitic transformation. For instance, those are the remanent magnetization method, the excitation method using the differential pick‐up coil, and so on. We are researching also those two methods in our laboratory now. In the remanent magnetization method, it is well known that the relationship between fatigue damage and the remanent magnetization is simple, clear, and reproducible. In addition, the excitation method can be easily used at the job site because the special magnetizer is unnecessary. But, these methods have some disadvantages shown as follows. For instance, the former needs a special magnetizer and the latter’s output signal is small. On the other hand, it is well known that the inductance of a pancake type coil put on the metallic specimen changes according to the electromagnetic properties of the metallic specimen. In this paper, the assessment method of fatigue of an austenitic stainless steel (SUS316) that uses the change by fatigue of the inductance of the pancake type coil measured with the LCR meter is shown. In addition, the fatigue evaluation performance of this method is described.

In this paper, we presented the embedded Ethernet microcontroller for optical monitoring. This design is used for fiber monitoring in the FTTH system. The embedded Ethernet microcontroller is used to control the 1x8 optical switches where this switch is to reroute the optical signal in the FTTH system. These systems consisting of two primaries part communicating each other: (i) A server consisting of a microcontroller PIC18F97J60 with built-in embedded Ethernet controller module and (ii) a client computer. In this system, a microcontroller system is act like web server that store the web pages in their memory, a client computer can access this web page using web browser to monitor and control the microcontroller where the microcontroller is used to control the path of the optical signal by using optical switch.

The moisture content inspection for agriculture material is very necessary to make a quality control. Since the amount of the soybean meal, which can transmute into animal food, is very plenty and the distribution of moisture is difference. Therefore, the non-destructive moisture inspection is difficult to perform. This paper proposes microwave free-space measurement using the resonance cavity. Measuring the resonance frequency after passing the soybean meal and calculate them in term of complex permittivity. The results show that the technique can provide fast soybean meal moisture classification with 80% of accuracy.

Through the motion control experiment using Industrial Emulator(Model 220 by ECP), the performance comparison of three kinds of controllers such as PID, RIC and LQR was carried out. It was shown that RIC has the best performance in the presence of disturbances such as step one, sinusoidal one and Coulomb friction for the rigid body. LQR using feedback state variables has the best tracking performance for the flexible body. The performance of PID controller is low compared to other controllers, but the design process is simple. The most advanced controller is LQR. In order to attenuate disturbance, an additional state observer should be used to estimate it, making more complex control system. RIC lies between PID and LQR in view of complexity of design. Even though RIC is not complicated, it has good disturbance rejection ability and less tracking error. By considering these aspects, the RIC is suggested as high precision controller to be used in motion control system.

Recently testing of Quantum-dot Cellular Automata circuits has attracted a lot of attentions. This paper proposes a novel method for testing QCA circuits. The method is based on circuit partitioning capability and multi-layer feature of QCA circuits. It can be useful for testing large circuits with many inputs. The proposed test method has potential to increase observability and controllability of QCA circuits, and hence it can amplify testability. In addition, it can be an effective method regarding to Built in Self Test (BIST) technique. Some simulations are performed using a QCA circuit layout and functionality checking tool, called QCADesigner.
