Rodents demonstrate a capability of shape recognition and texture discrimination through active whisking. Biomimetic whisker design and experiments reveal that rodent whiskers can provide precise localization information rather than just a binary information about object presence. We compare the artificial whisker system and real biological whiskers. We suggest that the deflection angle the sensors measure is an important cue for tactile localization for both the artificial system and biological system.

This paper presents a repetition based packet lost concealment (PLC) method for code excited linear prediction (CELP) based coders in packet networks. We perform a repetition of parameters of the last good frame to construct the missing of corrupted packet. Our approach consists in adding a muting factor, a random Jittering and bandwidth expansion. We applied this scheme to the standard ITU-T G729 standard speech coder for evaluation. Compared to the concealment method embedded in the ITU-G.729, each characteristic gives better performance in terms of average spectral distortion measure and enhanced modified bark spectral distortion tests (EMBSD), over the PLC embedded in the G729. we show that the repetition method outperform significantly the method implemented by the standard G729.

In order to decrease bias voltages in IMOS devices we have proposed a new IMOS structure with Si/Si-Ge channel in this paper. In comparison with previously reported, single gate SOI IMOS and SGOI IMOS structures, this device can provide higher reduction in the source voltage as well as in threshold voltage. Moreover, the proposed structure provides considerable reduction in off-state current, while preserving the on-state current.

Recently testing of quantum-dot cellular automata circuits has attracted a lot of attention. This paper proposes a novel method for testing QCA circuits. The method is based on circuit partitioning capability and multi-layer feature of QCA circuits. It can be useful for testing large circuits with many inputs. The proposed test method has potential to increase observability and controllability of QCA circuits, and hence it can amplify testability. In addition, it can be an effective method regarding to built in self test (BIST) technique. Some simulations are performed using a QCA circuit layout and functionality checking tool, called QCADesigner.

In this paper, we propose a scheme for improved performance of resource reservation and call admission control for cellular networks called predictive mobility support demand (PMSD) scheme. This scheme is proposed in which bandwidth is allocated more efficiently to neighboring cells by key mobility parameters in order to provide QoS guarantees for transferring traffic. The probability is used to form a cluster of cell and the shadow cluster, where a mobile unit is likely to visit. Concomitantly, to ensure continuity of on-going calls with better utilization of resources, bandwidth is borrowed from prediction nonconforming calls and existing adaptive calls without affecting the minimum QoS guarantees. We evaluate the performance of PMSD scheme by means of the simulation. We measure several performance metrics such as the call blocking probability, call dropping probability, and bandwidth utilization by comparing with the mobility support on demand borrowing (MSODB) scheme. The simulation results show that PMSD scheme provides the better performance that the one of MSODB.

The results of generation of multi-torus chaotic attractors is given. Finally, a block circuit diagram is designed for hardware implementation of the multi-torus chaotic attractors.
