Since 1988 he has been working as a Research Associate in the Department of Electrical and Computer Engineering Kanazawa University and is now a Lecturer. His current research interest is fiber-optic sensors optical fiber science including Er-doped fibers optical waveguides and the optical reflectometry. The degradation of the spatial resolution in frequency-modulated continuous wave (FMCW) reflectometry due to the nonlinearity in the optical frequency sweep are discussed both experimentally and theoretically. The response lag in the optical frequency change of a laser diode behind the injection current change was experimentally measured, showing that there were several time constants in the optical frequency response. The interference signals in the FMCW reflectometry were theoretically calculated by taking account of the response lag. From these calculations, the beat frequency becomes low just after the turning point of the optical frequency sweep;this is due to the response lag in the optical frequency response. As a result, the spectrum of the interference signal is spread out toward the low frequency region and spatial resolution is degraded. Moreover, the spatial resolution is seriously degraded with increasing the diagnosing distance due to the nonlinearity in the optical frequency sweep. The calculated results agree well with the measured results.

This paper presents a new technique using delta modulation for inverter operation. Delta modulation (DM) schemes have the ability to optimize pulse width modulated (PWM) inverter waveforms online. The tuned and the multi-integrator DM are the two schemes proposed for PWM waveform synthesis so far. The methods were found useful for variable speed PWM inverter-fed AC drives. However it was observed that during tuning and filtering process, fundamental output voltage of the inverters reduced. With an aim to overcome this effect, a new technique called the variable step rectangular wave delta modulation (RWDM) is proposed. The method has the capability to maintain a near constant fundamental voltage of the output waveform of the inverters. Both analytical and experimental verifications are carried out for tuned and variable step RWDM.< >

A flat diversity antenna is proposed for mobile telephone using a disk-loaded monopole antenna and notch antenna arrays. The notch array designed as a turnstile antenna for receiving the magnetic field components is replaced by the disk of the disk-loaded monopole antenna. Since the electric field components are received by the disk loaded monopole antenna, this combination provides an energy density reception. A prototype of the flat diversity antenna is demonstrated, and the measured results of the input impedance characteristics and the radiation patterns are presented.< >

The authors present a novel flat antenna consisting of a disk loaded monopole and a notch array for mobile telephone. To obtain a small correlation coefficient between the notch array and the disk loaded monopole antenna, two feed circuits are proposed for the notch array. The correlation coefficient between ring patch and notch antenna of less than 0.1 is small enough for diversity branches.< >
