A 2-element microstrip multiple-input multiple-output (MIMO) antenna with circular polarization (CP) diversity is reported for 5G wireless applications in the sub-6 GHz band. The MIMO configuration in a single layer consisting of two square-shaped radiating elements, each with two input ports, is implemented on a shared ground surface. The attainment of CP diversity is facilitated by incorporating a 90º branch-line coupler (BLC) inside the feed network. The generation of a ±90º out-of-phase signal, which is utilized to excite left-hand CP (LHCP) and right-hand CP (RHCP) signals by means of orthogonal feed lines of each patch, is achieved by employing a 90º BLC. Additionally, enhanced isolation can be attained by implementing a T-shaped slot on the shared ground plane using a defective-ground approach positioned between two antenna elements. For LHCP/RHCP, a measured 3-dB axial ratio bandwidth of 4.81% is obtained. Moreover, a satisfactory CP radiation performance is attained in the operating frequency of 3.45-3.62 GHz. In addition, the measured envelope correlation coefficient exhibits a value below 0.01, indicating enhanced performance in MIMO applications. © 2023 IEEE.

Induction machines are widely used in industrial and household applications due to their efficiency in electromechanical energy conversion. However, broken rotor bars can significantly disrupt machine performance, typically manifesting as sideband harmonics near the fundamental frequency which can be utilized for fault detection. Nonetheless, frequency leakage can impede fault detection, concealing fault until substantial damage occurs. The proposed method, based on the rectified three-phase stator current (RTPSC), effectively reduces leakage frequency while maintaining the fault characteristic frequency (FCF) at its original amplitude. In addition, generate the fundamental harmonic at a frequency of 6 times. This approach aims to is to enhance diagnostic capabilities in the maintenance and monitoring of induction machines, improving operational efficiency and it also reduces the chance of catastrophic failures. The proposed methodology is tested on cases involving one, two, and three broken rotor bars, with the simulation results validated through experimental verification. © 2024 IEEE.

Enhancing visual clarity in hazy media: a comprehensive approach through preprocessing and feature fusion attention-based dehazing

Particles in the atmosphere, such as dust and smoke, can cause visual clarity problems in both images and videos. Haze is the result of the interaction between airborne particles and light, which is scattered and attenuated. Hazy media present difficulties in a variety of applications due to the reduced contrast and loss of essential information. In response, dehazing techniques have been introduced to bring hazy videos and images back to clarity. Here, we provide a novel technique for eliminating haze. It comprises preprocessing steps before dehazing. Preprocessing is applied to hazy images through homomorphic processing and Contrast Limited Adaptive Histogram Equalization (CLAHE). We present a dehazing technique referred to as the pre-trained Feature Fusion Attention Network (FFA-Net) that directly lets dehazed images be restored from hazy or preprocessed hazy inputs without requiring the determination of atmospheric factors, such as air light and transmission maps. The FFA-Net architecture incorporates a Feature Attention (FA) method to do this task. We assess the proposed technique in a variety of circumstances, including visible frames, Near-Infrared (NIR) frames, and real-world hazy images. Evaluation criteria like entropy, correlation, and Peak Signal-to-Noise Ratio (PSNR) are used to compare the quality of dehazed frames or images to their hazy counterparts. Furthermore, histogram analysis and spectral entropy are adopted to determine the effectiveness of the proposed technique in comparison to existing dehazing techniques. Comparative results are presented for both real-world and simulated environments. The benefits of the proposed technique are demonstrated by a comparison of the results obtained from the standalone pre-trained FFA-Net and the proposed comprehensive methodology. Moreover, a thorough assessment is carried out for comparing the effectiveness of the proposed FFA-Net technique to those of some current dehazing techniques on real hazy images. T

Speech is a fundamental means of human interaction. Speaker Identification (SI) plays a crucial role in various applications, such as authentication systems, forensic investigation, and personal voice assistance. However, achieving robust and secure SI in both open and closed environments remains challenging. To address this issue, researchers have explored new techniques that enable computers to better understand and interact with humans. Smart systems leverage Artificial Neural Networks (ANNs) to mimic the human brain in identifying speakers. However, speech signals often suffer from interference, leading to signal degradation. The performance of a Speaker Identification System (SIS) is influenced by various environmental factors, such as noise and reverberation in open and closed environments, respectively. This research paper is concerned with the investigation of SI using Mel-Frequency Cepstral Coefficients (MFCCs) and polynomial coefficients, with an ANN serving as the classifier. To tackle the challenges posed by environmental interference, we propose a novel approach that depends on symmetric comb filters for modeling. In closed environments, we study the effect of reverberation on speech signals, as it occurs due to multiple reflections. To address this issue, we model the reverberation effect with comb filters. We explore different domains, including time, Discrete Wavelet Transform (DWT), Discrete Cosine Transform (DCT), and Discrete Sine Transform (DST) domains for feature extraction to determine the best combination for SI in case of reverberation environments. Simulation results reveal that DWT outperforms other transforms, leading to a recognition rate of 93.75% at a Signal-to-Noise Ratio (SNR) of 15 dB. Additionally, we investigate the concept of cancelable SI to ensure user privacy, while maintaining high recognition rates. Accurate weed mapping is essential for the implementation of weed management in order to maintain high crop yields and less chemical pollution. This paper focuses on the performance evaluation of YOLO models for automatic crop and weed detection. The research aims to develop weed detection models using one-stage deep learning-based object detectors by transferring pre-trained object detection models to a selected weed dataset. The models are trained on annotated images from a public dataset and evaluated based on detection accuracy. Results demonstrate promising training performance, with approximately 70% mean average precision achieved in 100 training epochs. YOLOv5x exhibits the best performance among the studied models, achieving the highest precision, recall, and mean average precision (0.72, 0.75, and 0.74, respectively). The findings indicate that models with deeper or larger backbone networks tend to provide higher detection accuracy. © 2023 IEEE.

Exponential Synchronization for Mobile Robotic Formation: A Hybrid Dynamic Event-Triggered Intermittent Control Method

To address the formation tracking issue of mobile robotic systems, this paper constructs a novel hybrid dynamic event-triggered intermittent control strategy, which can achieve the exponential synchronization of the systems. Considering the limited control resources, the intermittent control method is introduced into the distributed control strategy to save resources, and the existing intermittent control model is reconstructed to describe the system model better. A hybrid dynamic event-triggered mechanism is developed by combining the dynamic event-triggered method with the time sampling strategy, eliminating the Zeno phenomenon. The control time sequences in the developed intermittent control strategy are automatically selected by the hybrid dynamic event-triggered sequences, rather than artificially designed in advance, which reduces a certain degree of design complexity. The developed control strategy effectively saves control resources while alleviating the burden of network communication. Sufficient conditions for achieving exponential synchronization formation tracking are provided, and the exponential convergence of the formation error is demonstrated through the proposed lemma. Finally, a control task of multi-mobile robots formation is presented to verify the effectiveness of the theoretical analysis. IEEE

A two-stage progressive deep segmentation network for tumor detection in breast ultrasound images

Segmenting tumorous regions in breast ultrasound images is a challenging problem due to several factors, including the relatively low contrast of the available images, the presence of speckle noise, and the considerable variations in breast mass sizes and shapes. Current methods are not precise enough and prone to misdetections. An efficient deep neural model is proposed for automatically segmenting tumorous regions in breast ultrasound images. The model is constituted by two consecutive encoder-decoder (autoencoder) networks. The first autoencoder extracts a preliminary binary mask from the given image. The second autoencoder refines that mask after concatenating it with the original image. The encoders within each autoencoder can be defined by applying any state-of-the-art network. In addition, cost-sensitive learning has been used in order to focalize training on the segmentation errors of the minority class (tumor). Semantic segmentation based on advanced deep learning methods is thus applied in order to enhance tumor segmentation in breast ultrasound images. The proposed model offers advanced capabilities for automated segmentation with the aim of helping physicians identify and diagnose tumors using state-of-the-art techniques. This model outperforms recent tumor segmentation methods in the experiments conducted on two public datasets of breast ultrasound images (UDIAT and BUSI).
