Network updates have become increasingly prevalent since the broad adoption of software-defined networks(SDNs)in data *** TCP designs,including cutting-edge TCP variants DCTCP,CUBIC,and BBR,however,are not resilient to network updates that provoke flow *** this paper,we first demonstrate that popular TCP implementations perform inadequately in the presence of frequent and inconsistent network updates,because inconsistent and frequent network updates result in out-of-order packets and packet drops induced via transitory congestion and lead to serious performance *** look into the causes and propose a network update-friendly TCP(NUFTCP),which is an extension of the DCTCP variant,as a *** are used to assess the proposed *** findings reveal that NUFTCP can more effectively manage the problems of out-of-order packets and packet drops triggered in network updates,and it outperforms DCTCP considerably.

Wind power is one of the sustainable ways to generate renewable *** recent years,some countries have set renewables to meet future energy needs,with the primary goal of reducing emissions and promoting sustainable growth,primarily the use of wind and solar *** achieve the prediction of wind power generation,several deep and machine learning models are constructed in this article as base *** regression models are Deep neural network(DNN),k-nearest neighbor(KNN)regressor,long short-term memory(LSTM),averaging model,random forest(RF)regressor,bagging regressor,and gradient boosting(GB)*** addition,data cleaning and data preprocessing were performed to the *** dataset used in this study includes 4 features and 50530 *** accurately predict the wind power values,we propose in this paper a new optimization technique based on stochastic fractal search and particle swarm optimization(SFSPSO)to optimize the parameters of LSTM *** evaluation criteria were utilized to estimate the efficiency of the regression models,namely,mean absolute error(MAE),Nash Sutcliffe Efficiency(NSE),mean square error(MSE),coefficient of determination(R2),root mean squared error(RMSE).The experimental results illustrated that the proposed optimization of LSTM using SFS-PSO model achieved the best results with R2 equals 99.99%in predicting the wind power values.

Design of a Novel 1x4 Two-Dimensional Demultiplexer Based on Multicore Photonic Crystal Fiber

This work suggests a brand-new 1*4 two-dimensional demultiplexer design based on multicore photonic crystal fiber. Numerical models show that the optical signals can be separated in a photonic crystal fiber construction using optical signals with wavelengths of 0.85, 1.1, 1.19, and 1.35 µm injected on the center core and separated into four cores. The innovative design switches different air-hole positions using pure silica layers throughout the length of the fiber to regulate the direction of light transmission between layers. Wavelength demultiplexers are essential parts of optical systemic communications. They serve as a data distributor and can use a single input to produce multiple outputs. The background material is frequently natural silica, and air holes can be found anywhere throughout the length of the fiber as the low-index components. The simulation results showed that after a 6 mm light propagation, the four-channel demux can start to demultiplex. © 2023 Polish Academy of sciences. All rights reserved.

Internet of things (IoT) has opened new horizons in connecting all sorts of devices to the internet. However, continuous demand for connectivity increases the cybersecurity risks, rendering IoT devices more prone to cyberattacks. At the same time, rapid advances in Deep Learning (DL)-based algorithms provide state-of-the-art results in many classification tasks, including classification of network traffic or system logs. That said, deep learning algorithms are considered computationally expensive as they require substantial processing and storage capacity. Sadly, IoT devices have limited resources, making renowned DL models hard to implement in this environment. In this paper we present a Residual Neural Network inspired DL-based Intrusion Detection System (IDS) that incorporates weight pruning to make the model more compact in size and resource consumption. Additionally, the proposed system leverages feature selection algorithms to reduce the feature-space size. The model was trained on the NSL-KDD dataset benchmark. Experimental results show that the proposed system is effective, being able to classify network traffic with an F1 score of up to 98.9% before the pruning and an F1 score of up to 97.5% after pruning 90% of network weights. © 2023 Polish Information Processing Society.

Changes in the Atmospheric Electric Field Signal(AEFS)are highly correlated with weather changes,especially with thunderstorm ***,little attention has been paid to the ambiguous weather information implicit in AEFS *** this paper,a Fuzzy C-Means(FCM)clustering method is used for the first time to develop an innovative approach to characterize the weather attributes carried by ***,a time series dataset is created in the time domain using AEFS *** AEFS-based weather is evaluated according to the time-series Membership Degree(MD)changes obtained by inputting this dataset into the ***,thunderstorm intensities are reflected by the change in distance from a thunderstorm cloud point charge to an AEF ***,a matching relationship is established between the normalized distance and the thunderstorm dominant MD in the space ***,the rationality and reliability of the proposed method are verified by combining radar charts and expert *** results confirm that this method accurately characterizes the weather attributes and changes in the AEFS,and a negative distance-MD correlation is obtained for the first *** detection of thunderstorm activity by AEF from the perspective of fuzzy set technology provides a meaningful guidance for interpretable thunderstorms.

Navigating the world with visual impairments presents unique challenges, often limiting independence and safety. This research introduces SafeStride, a novel algorithm designed to empower visually impaired individuals through real-time obstacle detection and navigation assistance. SafeStride functions through five interconnected phases: sensor data acquisition, data preprocessing, obstacle detection, path planning, and feedback and guidance. A combination of ultrasonic sensors, cameras, and inertial measurement units (IMUs) feed comprehensive environmental data into the system, enabling accurate obstacle detection and safe path planning. Evaluating SafeStride's performance involved the MNIST dataset for image recognition and a dedicated indoor object detection dataset. Additionally, comparisons were made against three deep learning models—convolutional neural network (CNN), long short-term memory (LSTM), and gated recurrent unit (GRU). The results showcased SafeStride's high accuracy and effectiveness in both obstacle detection and classification. Beyond its impressive performance, SafeStride represents a significant leap forward in navigation aids for the visually impaired. By offering a comprehensive solution that enhances safety and independence in diverse environments, it holds immense potential to improve the lives of countless individuals. Future efforts will focus on further optimizing the algorithm and testing its real-world capabilities, paving the way for a future where safe and independent navigation becomes a reality for all. All three deep learning models (CNN, LSTM, GRU) excelled in the experiment, achieving high accuracy above 0.98, strong recall and F1-scores near 0.99, and exceptional AUC-ROC scores exceeding 0.9998. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2025.

This study presents a detailed survey on the use of the Internet of Things (IoT) for predictive maintenance and monitoring of cultural heritage, focusing on museums and exhibitions. The integration of IoT in these fields offers significant potential for optimizing maintenance and supervision of heritage resources while also enhancing maintenance strategies. This review examines the application of IoT devices, data analysis, and predictive algorithms in monitoring the state of heritage resources to improve tourist experiences and conserve cultural resources. Key enabling technologies can enable adaptive interactions and engagement with enhanced navigation. Visualization technologies are also common, offering hands-on displays. The study also emphasizes the value of accessibility and interactivity, providing personalization and content sharing features. Several initiatives prioritize the delivery of digital content through mobile applications, internet browsers, and downloadable *** study examines how IoT-enabled predictive maintenance systems can recognize potential hazards, like resource decay or environmental dangers, enabling immediate action. Enhancing biometric authentication security through the novel integration of graph theory encryption and chaotic logistic mapping

The escalating reliance on biometric systems for identity verification underscores the imperative for robust data protection mechanisms. Biometric authentication, leveraging unique biological and behavioral characteristics, offers unparalleled precision in individual identification. However, the integrity and confidentiality of biometric data remain paramount concerns, given its susceptibility to compromise. This research delineates the development and implementation of an innovative framework for cancellable biometrics, focusing on facial and fingerprint recognition. This study introduces a novel cancellable biometrics framework that integrates graph theory encryption with three-dimensional chaotic logistic mapping. The methodology encompasses a multifaceted approach: initially employing graph theory for the secure and efficient encryption of biometric data, subsequently enhanced by the complexity and unpredictability of three-dimensional chaotic logistic mapping. This dual-layered strategy ensures the robustness of the encryption, thereby significantly elevating the security of biometric data against unauthorized access and potential compromise. Thus, the resulting cancellable biometrics, characterized by the ability to transform biometric data into an adjustable representation, addresses critical challenges in biometric security. It allows for the revocation and reissuance of biometric credentials, thereby safeguarding the original biometric characteristics of individuals. This feature not only enhances user privacy and data security but also introduces a dynamic aspect to biometric authentication, facilitating adaptability across diverse systems and applications. Preliminary evaluations of the proposed framework demonstrate a marked improvement in the security of face and fingerprint recognition systems. This paper aims to implement and use the Spring Security framework to secure and authenticate the connection between a web application and the ESP32 device. In the context of a web application, by analyzing the integration of the Spring Security framework, it investigates the ways in which it manages the complex process of authentication and authorization, thus providing a secure and protected connection to an IoT device. Additionally, this study investigates the integration and use of the RTOS operating system to manage physical access in an IoT environment, in particular by implementing the opening of a door using tags.
