Fuzzy Logic in Classification of Radio communication signals

Characterization of radio communication signals aims at automatic recognition of different characteristics of radio signals in order to detect their modulation type, the central frequency, and the level. The authors" purpose is to apply techniques used in image processing in order to extract pertinent characteristics. To the single analysis (recognition of membership of certain frequency signal to a radio communication using its characteristics), the authors add several rules for checking the consistency of hypotheses using fuzzy logic. This allows taking into account ambiguity and uncertainty that may remain after the extraction of individual characteristics. The task has been realized in MATLAB. The aim is to improve the process of radio communications characterization.

Biometrics technology has been attracting extensive attention due to the ever growing demand on access control, public security, forensics and e-banking. With the fast development of biometric data acquisition sensors and data processing algorithms, diverse biometric systems have been now widely used in various applications. Among these biometric technologies, the hand-based biometrics is most popular and has the largest shares in the biometrics market. The main objective of this paper consists of contributing in designing and developing efficiency hand based biometric algorithm for various applications. In this context, palmprint and Finger-Knuckle-Print (FKP) are used jointly for elaborating an efficient multimodal biometric recognition system. So, a fusion process is proposed for fusing these modalities. In this study, both modalities are characterized by the two dimensional Bloc based Discrete Cosine Transform (2D-BDCT) coefficients. Subsequently, we use the Hidden Markov Model (HMM) for modeling the observation vector. In addition, the two sub-systems are integrated in order to construct an efficient multimodal identification system based on matching score level fusion. The proposed scheme is tested and evaluated using a database of 165 users. The results show the effectiveness and reliability of the proposed method, which brings both high identification and accuracy rate.

A five-dimensional (5D) controlled two-stage Colpitts oscillator is introduced and analyzed. This new electronic oscillator is constructed by considering the well-known two-stage Colpitts oscillator with two further elements (coupled inductors and variable resistor). In contrast to current approaches based on piecewise linear (PWL) model, we propose a smooth mathematical model (with exponential nonlinearity) to investigate the dynamics of the oscillator. Several issues, such as the basic dynamical behaviour, bifurcation diagrams, Lyapunov exponents, and frequency spectra of the oscillator, are investigated theoretically and numerically by varying a single control resistor. It is found that the oscillator moves from the state of fixed point motion to chaos via the usual paths of period-doubling and interior crisis routes as the single control resistor is monitored. Furthermore, an experimental study of controlled Colpitts oscillator is carried out. An appropriate electronic circuit is proposed for the investigations of the complex dynamics behaviour of the system. A very good qualitative agreement is obtained between the theoretical/numerical and experimental results.

Feature extraction is an important step for speaker recognition systems. In this paper, we generated MFCC (Mel Frequency Cepstral Coefficients) and LPCC (Linear Predictive Cepstral Coefficients) from LP residual of speech signal, instead their calculation directly from speech samples. These features represent complementary vocal cord information's. In this work, Universal Background Gaussian Mixture Models (GMM-UBM) and Gaussian Supervector (GMM-SVM ) based speaker modeling have been used. Experimental results, using, ARADIGITS data-base, show the efficiency of the GMM-SVM based approach associated with feature vectors issued from LP residual signal. © 2012 Springer-Verlag.

The aim of this paper is to investigate the influence of Adaptative Multi-Rate Wideband (AMR-WB) speech coding on Distributed Speaker Recognition (DSR). The main goal is to improve speaker recognition performance without resynthesizing the speech waveform in mobile communications. For this purpose, we have implemented a method in order to extract the acoustic features in the compressed domain, directly from encoded bitstream. The obtained results, using ARADIGIT database, show that the proposed approach, with GMM and SVM models, using ISF (Immittance Spectral Frequency) parameters through a noised channel (AWGN and Rayleigh) are promising. © 2012 IEEE.

In this paper, we investigate the influence of noisy channel on the performance of acoustic echo cancellation system. In the mobile communications, acoustic echo is mainly caused by the coupling between the loudspeaker and the microphone of the mobile device. So, an Acoustic Echo Canceller (AEC) should be used locally inside this device. This paper evaluates the performances of AEC, generally based on adaptive filtering, where the transmitted speech is encoded and decoded by AMRWB (Adaptive Multi-Rate Wide Band) speech codec. The encoded speech is transmitted over a transmission channel modeled by AWGN (Additive White Gaussian Noise) and Rayleigh fading channel. The simulation results show the strong degradation of the AEC performances, due to the noisy channel.

In this paper, we present an optimized switched split vector quantization (SSVQ) system developed for efficient and robust coding of the speech LPC parameters in terms of line spectral frequencies (LSF). Initially, the aim of this system (called LSF-SSVQ encoder) is to achieve a transparent quantization of wideband speech LSF parameters for ideal transmissions over noiseless channels. Subsequently, our interest was drawn to the improvement of the LSF-SSVQ encoder robustness for real transmissions over a noisy channel. To protect implicitly the transmission indices of our LSF encoders, we developed a non-redundant joint source-channel coding system based on a channel optimized switched split vector quantization technique. © 2012 IEEE.

This paper deals with the text-independent speaker recognition over wireless telephone network. The performed speaker verification system, based on Gaussian Mixture Model (GMM), was designed to use the information extracted directly from the coded parameters embedded in the ITU-T G.722.2 bitstream. Experiments were performed over the ARADIGIT database. The robustness in verification accuracy is also studied. The obtained results show that the use of Immittance Spectral Frequency (ISF) features extracted from ITU-T G.722.2 bitstream would improve significantly the recognition performance compared with the Mel Frequency Cepstral Coefficients (MFCC) features extracted from transcoded speech.

We propose in this work a signature verification system based on decision combination of off-line signatures for managing conflict provided by the SVM classifiers. The system is basically divided into three modules: i) Radon Transform-SVM, ii) Ridgelet Transform-SVM and iii) PCR5 combination rule based on the generalized belief functions of Dezert-Smarandache theory. The proposed framework allows combining the normalized SVM outputs and uses an estimation technique based on the dissonant model of Appriou to compute the belief assignments. Decision making is performed through likelihood ratio. Experiments are conducted on the well known CEDAR database using false rejection and false acceptance criteria. The obtained results show that the proposed combination framework improves the verification accuracy compared to individual SVM classifiers.
