In this paper, detection of the magnetite rust is presented by using a chipless RFID sensor based on a circular microstrip patch antenna (CMPA). The sensor is designed at the resonant frequency of 4.89 GHz by using a single-layer PCB with its dielectric constant of 4.3. Simulations were conducted to verify that the designed sensor can detect the magnetite rust through shifted resonant frequency. In simulations, the sensor was mounted on the iron with its magnetite rust. The width and depth of iron rust were varied in order to investigate the effect of iron rust on the resonant frequency. Simulation results have been shown that the proposed chipless RFID sensor and RCS’ can be utilized to detect the effect of the iron rust.

This work deals with the study of implementation possibilities of broadband optical multiplexer/demultiplexer in the form of AWG (Arrayed Waveguide Gratings) in TWDM-PON topology (Time and Wavelength Division Multiplexing Passive Optical Network) by norm G.989.1 as a key component of the hybrid network. The functionality possibilities of the TWDM-PON system are observed where the goal of AWG design is to support also wavelengths different from standard wavelengths used for TWDM-PON in C-band (Conventional) ranges from 1530 nm to 1565nm and L-band (Long-wavelength, 1565-1625nm) bands. This should allow for older communication systems (for example EPON (Ethernet Passive Optical Network) given by norm IEEE 802.3ah and GPON (Gigabit-capable Passive Optical Network) by norm ITU-T G.984) to be operating concurrently over ODN (optical distribution network) without mutual disturbance with newer xPON communication systems. The network topology operating in this manner makes efficient use of passive infrastructure, including reducing the cost of construction (CAPEx) or operation (OPEx) while creating hybrid types of optical networks. © 2025 SPIE.

In this study, the effect of 2.0, respectively 5.0 weight percent filler of halloysite (HNT) dopant for dielectric properties of two two-component polyurethane potting agent were studied. In this study, polyurethane-based potting compounds from VUKI a.s. were used as the base medium, one being a pure potting compound with the factory name VUKOL N22 and the second potting compound having the designation VUKOL N22u Magna Blue. For this purpose, direct volume resistivity measurements and broadband dielectric spectroscopy measurements were used to describe changes in the dielectric responses of the studied nanocomposites doped with HNT. The investigation of the dependence of complex relative permittivity and dissipation factor was conducted using dielectric frequency spectroscopy within a temperature range of 25°C to 120°C and a frequency range of 1 mHz to 1 MHz. The measurements of resistance were carried out following the standard STN 34 6460: 1993, with the ambient temperature consistently maintained at 25°C.

In this paper, we address the critical aspect of hardware ageing effects in reconfigurable intelligent surfaces (RISs), whereby the problem of extending the RIS's life cycle under the impact of non-residual stochastic hardware impairment is considered. Through the replication of the RIS hardware and diverse wireless environments within a statistical simulation environment, we formulate an electronic maintenance framework (EMF) for RIS, where we incorporate non-residual impairments through stochastic modeling and determine the electronic reliability of the system. Accordingly, we derive optimal analytical solutions within the EMF to determine whether systematic maintenance of the RIS hardware should be done immediately or postponed in order to extend the expected life cycle of the RIS system. Furthermore, for the scenario with imperfect maintenance of the RIS-aided system, a reliable communication framework (RCF) is also introduced with residual impairments to assess the error probability of the RIS-aided communication. The RCF is established by deriving the distribution of the received signal-to-interference-plus-noise ratio in the presence of residual hardware impairment arising due to imperfect maintenance of the RIS system. Extensive numerical examples are provided to elucidate the derived solutions and illustrate the reliability performance of the proposed framework under hardware impairments. © 2020 IEEE.

This paper investigates the secrecy performance of full-duplex cooperative vehicular relaying networks under passive eavesdropping attacks in the presence of co-channel interference. In the considered system model, a static source communicates with a static destination through a mobile full-duplex relay in the presence of a mobile passive eavesdropper and a static co-channel interferer. A closed-form expression for the exact secrecy outage probability of the system is derived for the Nakagami-m fading environment. Hence, the asymptotic secrecy outage probability is obtained at high signal-to-noise values. Numerical and Simulation results are obtained to validate the derived analytical expressions. © 2022 IEEE.

In this article, the problem of linear precoding and radar receive beamforming design for joint radar-communication (JRC) systems is studied. A multiple antenna base station (BS) that serves multiple single-antenna user terminals on the downlink is assumed. Furthermore, the BS employs a simultaneous radar function in the form of point-like target detection from the reflected return signals in a signal-dependent interference environment. In this work, we jointly design the JRC linear precoder and the radar receive beamformer, thus aiming to optimize the performance of the radar part while maintaining a desired quality of service (QoS) for the communication one subject to a total transmit power constraint. To that end, we formulate a challenging fractional nonconvex optimization problem via which the optimal precoder and radar receive beamformer are derived. Then, we develop algorithmic solutions based on the majorization-minimization (MM) principle and the semidefinite relaxation (SDR) methodology for the formulated optimization problem. The performance of both the proposed solutions is examined and compared to the one of a system that supports only the radar functionality via numerical results. © 2023 IEEE.

An oddball paradigm is an experimental design that uses a sequence of one repeating stimulus called the standard stimulus. This sequence is infrequently interrupted by a different stimulus called the deviant or target stimulus. Potentially the oddball paradigm can be employed in an EEG-based speech discrimination assessment protocol. Speech discrimination indicates how well a person can differentiate between different words. Analyzing EEG measurements such as the Event-Related Potentials (ERPs) may help to achieve the goal of automated assessment process. In this work we compare two listening modes in an oddball paradigm in order to find a suitable mode for assessing speech discrimination automatically. The two listening modes include passive and active listening. Passive listening is when the listener does not pay attention to what they hear. Active listening is when the listener actively pays attention to the sound. We tested these two listening modes using two Thai words with consonant contrast. We compared the ERP waveform, classification accuracy, and attention during passive and active listening. We found that passive listening produced clearer ERP waveform. However, active listening achieved higher accuracy and engaged less attention. Therefore, we recommend using active listening for an auditory oddball paradigm when assessing speech discrimination. © 2021 IEEE.

Timely pest detection and identification is critical as part of modern agriculture. Halyomorpha Halys is a prevalent pest with proven harmful impacts on numerous crops and agricultural regions. The paper proposes an efficient model to improve the detection of two invasive stink bugs: Halyomorpha halys and Nezara Viridula. Automatic detection of these two bugs is essential in various fields, such as precision agriculture and integrated pest management. The high performances obtained in the present study open new perspectives for the further development of insect pest detection systems and can serve as a basis for future modifications and improvements of these models.

Dengue disease, spread by mosquitoes, affects a large part of the world's population. Early diagnosis is essential to avoid its severe impacts. This paper seeks to compare classical machine learning techniques with ensemble approaches in the early classification of dengue: Dengue without alarm signs (DNWS), Dengue with alarm signs (DWWS) and Severe Dengue (SD). A dataset available at https://***/ from the Colombian government with 53,814 records and 38 attributes is used. The data are processed in Google Colab using Pandas, Matplotlib and Numpy, while Scikit-learn is used for modeling. The results are supported by a detailed confusion matrix, revealing the actual performance of each model and highlighting the superiority of the ensemble approaches over classical techniques in early dengue classification. The Stacking method achieves an accuracy (Acc) of 88%, outperforming all other techniques employed. Among the classical techniques, Decision Tree (DT) achieved the best result with an Acc of 84%. In conclusion, when contrasting the performance of classical techniques and ensemble approaches in early dengue classification, it is highlighted that the latter demonstrate robustness in terms of quality metrics, such as accuracy, recall and F1-Score. This observation suggests that ensemble approaches have the potential to overcome the limitations associated with classical techniques, resulting in more robust and accurate achievements.
