The high-resolution encoder is typically used to detect the rotor position in Permanent-Magnet Synchronous Motor (PMSM) drive (AC servo drive) in many high performance applications where the high-precision position and extremely low speed controls are required. Therefore, the overall cost of such drive system is generally very expensive. This drive is absolutely not be attractive for low-cost applications where the speed control may be operating in the middle or high speed range. To reduce the cost, the high-resolution encoder may be replaced by the low-resolution encoder. In this paper, the implementation of speed controlled PMSM drive using low-resolution encoder down to 12 and 24 pulses/rev (or 3 and 6 pulses/electrical period for 8-pole PMSM, respectively) for lowcost applications is thus proposed. The extrapolation technique is primarily adopted to increase the position resolution in both rotational directions and under the step load condition. The details of the overall drive system are given. Both simulation and experimental results are finally provided to validate the implementing system on a fixed-point TMS320F2812 DSP controller.

Low-frequency (3 to 50 kHz) shot noise behavior of planar metal/semiconductor/metal photodetector (MSM-PD) structure operating under pre avalanching and avalanching conditions has been observed. The structure examined is Mo/n-Si/Mo structure with electrode separation of 20μm. In higher voltages applied, both device current and its photocurrent component showed a rapid increase at a critical bias voltage due to onset of avalanche multiplication. It was found that the associated shot noise factor F~2 varies in wide range from the order Of 0.1 at pre-breakdown conditions to three orders of magnitude larger than unity corresponding to simple shot noise by avalanche multiplication. This result implies that the biasing condition for appropriate operation must be satisfied from the view point of signal-to noise ratio (S/N), when one operates this structure with high optical sensitivity. The value of noise factor obtained seems basically expressible by using existing theory with a little smaller exponent of multiplication factor.

This paper considers a multi-objective network design problem for the traffic grooming, routing and wavelength assignment (GRWA) in WDM networks. The design objectives are to maximize the number of accepted communication requests (source-destination pairs) as well as to minimize the number of wavelength channel requirement. Both the design objectives are conflicted to each other; maximizing the number of accepted commodities will require a large number of wavelength channels while minimizing the number of wavelength channels will limit the amount of accepted commodities. To solve the multi-objective network design problem, we apply a fast and efficient optimization technique called "Fast Non-dominated Sorting Genetic Algorithm (NSGA-II)". In this paper, traffic grooming (GA-LMF) and non-traffic grooming (GA-MDF and FAR-FF) algorithms are compared and benchmarked for solving the multi-objective design problem. The results show that the GA-LMF is the most flexible and efficient grooming technique. The obtained solutions from the GA-LMF are spread on the objective space and are better than those from other non-grooming techniques in both objective values (i.e., number of accepted commodities and wavelength channels required).

Digital fringe projection using a digital projector is an extensively technique used for 3D surface profile. Fringe pattern images projected by digital projector, appear nonlinear gamma effect. This effect is an error of digital projector, which gamma of the fringe pattern images is not stable. The nonlinear gamma effect demonstrates strip on 3D surface image which is a significant error. Therefore, this paper proposed an algorithm for decreasing nonlinear gamma effect in digital fringe projection. First, fringe pattern images were captured by digital camera, which composed of object and background images. These images suppose to have no distortion by a digital camera. Then, the background image in y axis of image plane was used to compare between real phase and ideal phase. Output of the process was a phase different data which could be use for phase compensation on phase values of fringe pattern images. Finally, the nonlinear gamma effect could decrease by our proposed algorithm. To verify, the fringe pattern images from laboratory, which have nonlinear gamma effect, were used to compute by the proposed algorithm. Result showed smoothly and truthfully 3D surface image. Addition, the proposed algorithm can be a real time processing and independent with any digital projector and digital camera.

A comprehensive study of low-field phonon-limited mobility behavior with downscaling of silicon body thickness in ultrathin-body SOI MOSFETs and double-gate MOSFETs is presented. Phonon-limited mobility is obtained by self-consistent Schrödinger-Poisson simulations and momentum relaxation rate calculations. Single- and double-gate devices with (100), (110) and (111) active surfaces and body thickness down to 2 nm are investigated. Physical mechanisms which govern mobility behavior are studied by calculating form factors and ladder/subband occupancy.
