This paper presents the design and measurements of a low noise multi-channel front-end electronics for recording extra-cellular neuronal signals using microelectrode arrays. The integrated circuit contains 64 readout channels and was fabricated in CMOS 0.18 mum technology. A single readout channel is built of an AC coupling circuit at the input, a low noise preamplifier, a band-pass filter and a second amplifier. In order to reduce the number of output lines, the 64 analog signals from readout channels are multiplexed to a single output by an analog multiplexer. The chip is optimized for low noise and matching performance with the possibility of cut-off frequencies tuning. The low cut-off frequency can be tuned in the 1 Hz - 60 Hz range and the high cut-off frequency can be tuned in the 3.5 kHz -15 kHz range. For the nominal gain setting at 44 dB and power dissipation per single channel of 220 muW the equivalent input noise is in the range from 6 muV - 11 muV rms depending on the band-pass filter settings. The chip has good uniformity concerning the spread of its electrical parameters from channel to channel. The spread of gain calculated as standard deviation to mean value is about 4.4% and the spread of the low cut-off frequency is on the same level. The chip occupies 5times2.3 mm 2 of silicon area.

Low power consumption device can be realized by low junction leakage current. This leakage current relates to the defects in the depletion region of p-n junction. Among variety process steps, implantation step may generate defects. Therefore, the implantation-induced defects have been studied from the activation energy which has been obtained from the leakage current of p-n junction. The different geometry p-n junctions have been fabricated by a standard CMOS technology. The current-voltage (I-V) and high frequency capacitance-voltage (C-V) characteristics of p-n junctions with temperature dependence have been measured. The electrically active defects from implantation process can be extracted from the junction generation current density versus temperature. Base on this analysis, it will be demonstrated that the implantation-induced defects have been found in p+-n-well more than in n+-p-substrate. Finally, the possible nature of the defect will be discussed.

Patterned Media Storage (PMS) is one of the promising technologies to overcome the limitations of the conventional magnetic recording. While advanced signal processing and coding algorithms helps to improve the bit error rate performance of Patterned Media Storage (PMS) channel, they have to be designed by considering the underlying channel model. In literature, there are two popular channel models for PMS: Approximate Model and Analytical Model. In this paper, we first shortly explain these models and then compare their responses by calculating their normalized mean-square error (NMSE) between two models. Through the numerical experiments, we find that NMSE can be substantially high up to 99%. Therefore, we conclude that Approximate Model should not be used to develop signal processing algorithms for PMS.

This paper presents a reasonable program that use orthogonal frequency division multiplexing(OFDM) technology to reduce inter-symbol interference (ISI) to improve the performance of space-time coding (STC) under frequency selective fading channel. Analyze the STC-OFDM system under the combination of STC and OFDM technology based on IEEE802.11a wireless *** Carlo method is adopted in simulation. The simulation results show that the combination of STBC and OFDM technology is superior to the combination of VBLAST and OFDM technology; FFT points and the number of subcarriers of the system has a certain impact on performance; Random interleaver can improve the performance of system under multipath fading channel and get a reasonable robustness under a variety of channels.

Presently researches in networked surveillance system grow continuously and substantially. One reason is because of the insecurity incidents such as terrorism acts in Thailand and many countries around the world. This results in the need of intelligent surveillance and monitoring system consisting of real-time image capture, transmission, processing, and surveillance information understanding. This information will be vital to people safety and indeed national security. Video Information Processing and Analysis for Surveillance System is a pilot project to realize such intelligent surveillance system developed by Thai researchers. The developed system consists of 6 parts, namely, super-resolution image reconstruction, suspect detection, suspect tracking, suspect appearance extraction, suspect activity analysis and level of awareness decision. The output information from the proposed system is suspect features, suspect activity pattern and direction, and level of suspicious incident. This would be very useful for the users to further analyze this information to use in practical surveillance system.

computer clusters have become a main stream of high performance computing platforms. Multilevel computing engines are spanned across acceleration boards, multicore processors, multiprocessor boards, and computer clusters. Multicore technology have played major role in increasing density of parallel computing elements. To harvest these high performance systems, cluster operating environment has pressed on additional abstraction using virtualization technology. Specific problem solving environments are isolated at the operating system level where real executions are performed in virtualization domain. Virtualization technology helps not only increasing utilization of computing resources but also reducing configuration workload, administrative cost, application porting and energy saving. Multiple commodity operating systems are allowed to share conventional hardware in a safe environment. In this work, we investigate an implementation of virtualized computing cluster. Performance evaluation results of the virtualized cluster based on HPL is shown where the maximum of 20% performance degradation from virtualization overhead is observed. We describe straightforward approach to deploy virtualization onto the cluster. The management of virtualization images is discussed. The process of considering computational cluster resources in virtualization environment is described. The goal of this work is to show the virtualized resources running with production of virtual cluster environment.

Dynamics is what characterizes virtually all phenomenae we face in the real world, and processes that proceed in practically all kinds of inanimate and animate systems, notably social systems. For our purposes dynamics is viewed as time evolution of some characteristic features of the phenomenae or processes under consideration. It is obvious that in virtually all non-trivial problems dynamics can not be neglected, and should be taken into account in the analyses to, first, get insight into the problem consider, and second, to be able to obtain meaningful results. A convenient tool to deal with dynamics and its related evolution over time is to use the concept of a dynamic system which, for the purposes of this volume can be characterized by the input (control), state and output spaces, and a state transition equation. Then, starting from an initial state, we can find a sequence of consecutive states (outputs) under consecutive inputs (controls). That is, we obtain a trajectory. The state transition equation may be given in various forms, exemplified by differential and difference equations, linear or nonlinear, deterministic or stochastic, or even fuzzy (imprecisely specified), fully or partially known, etc. These features can give rise to various problems the analysts may encounter like numerical difficulties, instability, strange forms of behavior (e.g. chaotic), etc. This volume is concerned with some modern tools and techniques which can be useful for the modeling of dynamics. We focus our attention on two important areas which play a key role nowadays, namely automation and robotics, and biological systems. We also add some new applications which can greatly benefit from the availability of effective and efficient tools for modeling dynamics, exemplified by some applications in security systems.

Cyber-Individual, with a short term 'Cyber-I', is a real individual's counterpart in cyberspace. It is closely related to human-centric computing ideology which focuses on placing human in the center of computing. The study on Cyber-I tries to re-examine and analyze human essence in the digital era. Cyber-I's vision is to create a unique, digital, comprehensive description for every real person being in the cyberspace. Human's social context, mood, temper, physical status and so on also need to be considered for such a full description. Further research on social computing, antropology, human behaviour study, psycology and other fields/disciplines are required to enrich Cyber-I concept, meanwhile, Cyber-I will also raise new problems to these fields/disciplines. The IT technologies on the whole including ubiquitous computing, pervasive sensors, wired/wireless networks and clouds will bring Cyber-I vision into practice. In this paper, we first present the Cyber-I concept, its important characteristics and basic architecture. Then, we discuss the special features of Cyber-I as compared with other related concepts and studies including AR (augmented reality), HCI (human computer interaction), AI, artificial life, etc. The Cyber-I layered architecture and basic elements are described in detail, and the associations between Cyber-I and the corresponding real individual are explained as well. Finally, fundamental problems and challenging issues brought by Cyber-I are addressed in terms of necessary technique, security, privacy, ethic, philosophy, etc.

This paper presents an annular microstrip antenna with two sectoral slots fed by a coaxial probe on a square vertical ground plane. The proposed microstrip antenna can support the dual-band operation (UHF and microwave RFID bands). From the results, the antenna has the magnitude of S 11 less than -10 dB along the bandwidth of 32 MHz (3.51%) for UHF band and 140 MHz (5.76%) for microwave band. The unidirectional beam can be achieved by the proposed microstrip antenna. The beamwidth in xz- and yz-planes is 82.8 and 89 degrees at the center frequency of 922.5 MHz and beamwidth in xz- and yz-planes is 39.8 and 28 degrees at the center frequency of 2.45 GHz, respectively. This antenna has efficiently high directivity for both bands. The simulation and measurement results are shown.
