Recently many studies on ubiquitous computing have been done. In the studies, ubiquitous ID architecture is one of the most important ones. In this study, we propose a new method for connecting to objects with RFTDs through the Internet. At first, we introduce a simple application called "Portable Environment Communicator". We try to apply the proposed method to it. Second, we propose a new name resolver architecture for portable objects, and a new method for selecting the most appropriate wireless base station around the objects, which is connected to the Internet. In the paper, the selection method is carried out using the supper arrangement method, distance field space model, and fuzzy measure theory.

This paper focuses on waveform analysis and crosstalk peak estimation at far-end of victim line for simultaneously switching inputs with resistive drivers. A transmission line based low loss coupled ALC-model of interconnect is used for analytical purpose. Positive and negative peaks are estimated for the conditions when inputs to two coupled interconnects are switching in-phase and out-of-phase. Waveforms are analyzed in general with homogeneous and non-homogeneous drivers for unipolar inputs. The driver is modeled as linear resistance. Comparison of analytical results with SPICE extracted results shows that the error involved is less than 2% and 5% for in-phase and out-of- phase switching respectively. The comparisons of analytically obtained results with SPICE simulations show that the proposed model captures noise peaks and waveform shape quite well.

In recent years, introduction of an alternative energy source such as solar energy is expected. However, insolation is not constant and output of photovoltaic (PV) system is influenced by meteorological conditions. In order to predict the power output for PV system as accurate as possible, it requires method of insolation estimation. In this paper, the authors take the insolation of each month into consideration, and confirm the validity of using neural network to predict one-day-ahead 24 hours insolation by computer simulations. The proposed method in this paper does not require complicated calculation and mathematical model with only meteorological data.

This paper presents a method to measure the semantic relatedness between sentences by using conceptual graph. To compare the sentence meaning, we firstly convert an English sentence into a conceptual graph. Then we employ the conceptual graph operations to match two conceptual graphs of one sentence and another. In matching nodes in the conceptual graphs, we utilize two lexicons i.e. WordNet and VerbNet. All semantic relatedness of contents in concept nodes are computed by using WordNet. The VerbNet is another used to find the semantic relatedness of contents in conceptual relation nodes. By our specified rules, the semantic relatedness between two sentences are objectively scored. We evaluate the performance of the proposed measurement with "Microsoft Research Paraphrase Corpus". The experimental results show the % correctness as 80.00% compared to human judgment. Moreover, we apply the measurement with words sense ambiguity analysis, the proposed measurement yields 76.44% of correctness compared to human judgment.

MISAT is a research and development cluster which will create a small satellite platform based on Micro Systems technology (MST) aiming at innovative space as well as terrestrial applications. MISAT is part of the Dutch MicroNed program which has established a microsystems infrastructure to fully exploit the MST knowledge chain involving public and industrial partners alike. The cluster covers MST-related developments for the spacecraft bus and payload, as well as the satellite architecture. Particular emphasis is given to distributed systems in space to fully exploit the potential of miniaturization for future mission concepts. Examples of current developments are wireless sensor and actuator networks with plug and play characteristics, autonomous digital Sun sensors, re-configurable radio front ends with minimum power consumption, or micro-machined electrostatic accelerometer and gradiometer system for scientific research in fundamental physics as well as geophysics. As a result of MISAT, a first nano-satellite will be launched in 2007 to demonstrate the next generation of Sun sensors, power subsystems and satellite architecture technology. Rapid access to in-orbit technology demonstration and verification will be provided by a series of small satellites. This will include a formation flying mission, which will increasingly rely on MISAT technology to improve functionality and reduce size, mass and power for advanced technology demonstration and novel scientific applications. Fuzzy c-means method (FCM) is a popular tool for a fuzzy data processing. In the current study, a FCM-based method of fuzzy clustering in a kernel space has been implemented. First, a "kernel trick" is applied to the fuzzy c-means algorithm. Then, the new method is employed for a fast automated segmentation of demyelination plaques in Multiple Sclerosis (MS). The clusters in a Gaussian kernel space are analysed in the histogram context and used during the initial classification of the brain tissue. Received classification masks are then used to detect the region of interest, eliminate false positives and label MS lesions.

In this paper a method to estimate the initial rotor position of the switched reluctance motor (SRM) at the stand still condition is proposed. The proposed method can be implemented by the simple microcontroller based system, and it is not necessary to know the magnetization curves. The impulse gate drive signal is applied and the winding current is detected and its approximate value is used for calculating the rotor position. The compensation method to reduce the estimation error thorough one cycle is also mentioned. The proposed method is implemented with the 6-stator-pole and 4- rotor-pole, 1.5 kW 3-phase switched reluctance motor.

The application of power quality parameters measurement algorithms requires utilization of computational methods which transform the signal from the time- to the frequency-domain. Currently, the most frequently applied method is the fast Fourier transformation (FFT). Because of the amendment of the proper power quality standards, it is also necessary to consider of implementation discrete Fourier transformation (DFT) algorithms. Considering the number of computations, DFT is more complicated than FFT. This paper presents basic analog-to-digital conversion parameters, which are defined in the norms, the time duration analysis of DFT algorithms, considering described assumptions and comparing them to FFT. Codes created in C and assembler languages, as well as the Matlab/Simulink environment, were taken into account. The software including the aforementioned codes was implemented in a low-cost power quality measurement system based on the TMS320c6713 floating point DSP processor from Texas Instruments. In the software, a real time DSP/BIOS operation system was used. Multi thread programming in power quality measurement systems was presented, and an analysis of computational efficiencies of the systems based on the TMS320c6 713 DSP processors was performed.

This paper presents eigenvector methods for analysis of the photoplethysmogram (PPG), electrocardiogram (ECG), electroencephalogram (EEG) signals recorded in order to examine the effects of pulsed electromagnetic field (PEMF) at extremely low frequency (ELF) upon the human electrophysiological signal behavior. The features representing the PPG, ECG, EEG signals were obtained by using the eigenvector methods. In addition to this, the problem of selecting relevant features among the features available for the purpose of discrimination of the signals was dealt with. Some conclusions were drawn concerning the efficiency of the eigenvector methods as a feature extraction method used for representing the signals under study.

In image denoising, where a tradeoff between noise suppression and the preservation of actual image discontinuities must be made, solutions are sought which can "detect" important image details and accordingly adapt the degree of noise smoothing. The techniques of image denoising fall into two categories: spatial domain methods and transform domain methods. The term spatial domain refers to the image plane itself, and approaches in this category are based on direct manipulation of pixels in an image. Transform domain processing techniques are based on modifying the Fourier or wavelet transform of an image. The major problem of these traditional methods is as follows: The representation couldn't contain basis elements oriented at a variety of directions, much more than the few directions that are offered by tensor product wavelets. To conquer the above headache trouble, a new approach to image denoising by using a non-tensor product bivariate orthogonal wavelet filter banks is presented. The core of our new method is that using centrally symmetric orthogonal matrices to compute filter banks. Our investigations demonstrate that there are three characteristics in this new approach: First, it is easily to understand and implement that using iterative method to compute orthogonal filter banks; Second, three high frequency subbands could present more directional features than tensor product wavelets; And the last is that different filter banks could emphasize different directional information. We employ those new filter banks to the denoising of some standard images embedded in white noise, the experimental results show that our new approach is superior to other methods in terms of denoising effectiveness.
