The unique characteristic of a repetitive process is a series of sweeps or passes through a set of dynamics defined over a finite duration known as the pass length. At the end of each pass, the process is reset and the next time through the output, or pass profile, produced on the previous pass acts as a forcing function on, an hence contributes to, the dynamics of the new pass profile. They are hence a class of systems with information propagation in two independent directions where here the dynamics over the finite pass length are described by a matrix linear differential equation and that from pass to pass has a discrete updating structure. This means that filtering/estimation theory/algorithms for, in particular, 2D discrete linear systems is not applicable. In this paper we solve a general filtering problem with a view toward use in the many applications where such action will be required. © 2007 EURASIP.

For the discussed DSSS (direct sequence spread spectrum) communication system to be successful, accurate carrier recovery and phase estimation are required in the receiver. This paper presents an analogue DDC-CRL which performs both of these functions as well as the despreading, demodulation and bit detection operations performed by an ideal DSSS receiver. The DDC-CRL presented in this paper operates at bit rates up to 1.53 Mbps and accommodates arbitrary sequence length. The loop operates anywhere over a 20 MHz bandwidth within the 2.4 GHz to 2.4835 GHz ISM (industrial, scientific and medical) band. The DDC-CRL is designed for the 0.35 mum CMOS process from Austria Microsystems (AMS).

In this paper we present measurement of eye patterns and their analysis for InGaP/GaAs DHBTs between 1 and 3 Gb/s PRBS signal. Eye diagrams have been measured and also simulated for comparison and further analysis. By adopting a robust direct parameter extraction technique all the small signal parameters of the DHBTs are deduced and are then used to simulate the corresponding eye patterns. The necessary procedure for simulating eye patterns is established in ADS so as the extraction of important eye parameters such as the eye height, amplitude, signal to noise ratio, rise and fall times. The eye parameters deteriorate with increase in frequency leading to the closure of the eye. An attempt has been made to recognise the main physical parameters of the device which influence the shape and formation of the eye diagrams and the observations has been discussed in this paper. These results provide an insight into device optimisation for user specified eye diagrams.

Readability is a very important factor for radio frequency identification (RFID) applications. One of the main reasons for readability degradation is field nulls (also called dead zones). In this paper, the causes of the dead zones are analyzed and simulated. Based on FSK-FM modulation, a novel RFID transceiver with enhanced readability under multipath environments is developed. The simulation results demonstrate that the proposed transceiver can remove the dead zones caused by multipath fading and enhance the readability.

This paper presents a digital watermarking technique based on the discrete non-separable wavelet transform (DNWT). In our paper, the discrete non-separable wavelet is constructed based on the standard dilation matrix 21. Our investigation demonstrates that the constructed discrete non-separable wavelet can detect more singularities of the host image with reflecting whole orientation while only three orientations being considered by traditional discrete separable transform (DWT). For this reason, more coefficients in the high- frequency sub-bands by DNWT can add the watermark than that by DWT. By using the desirable character of DNWT, the imperceptibility and robustness requirements of watermarks are fulfilled. Experiment results show that the watermarking scheme based on DNWT is robust to some distortions such as noising, JPEG compression, and cropping. It also shows that the decomposing of the host image and the robustness of the watermark are relating to the parameters.

This paper considers the general filtering problem for a distinct class of two-dimensional (2-D) discrete linear systems, i.e. information propagation in two independent directions, known as discrete linear repetitive processes which are of both system-theoretic and applications interest. In particular, new results on the design of filters with guaranteed levels of performance are developed. These take the form of algorithms for the design of an ∞ and 2-∞ dynamic output feedback filter which guarantees that the resulting filtering error process is stable and has prescribed disturbance attenuation performance as measured by ∞ and 2- ∞ norms. © 2007 IEEE.

Most wire communication systems utilize communication lines as power lines. The powered terminal needs to separate ac communication signals and dc supply power in its input part connected to the communication lines. In our communication system, it is preferable that the electronic choke be bidirectional. So, we have already proposed a low-loss electronic choke with small inductors and an amplifier. This circuit can be also used in the powering terminal. The electronic choke has high input impedance against communication signals. The frequency range of acceptable signals is determined mainly by resonance frequency of the inductors. In this paper, a method fitting this frequency range to the communication signal is proposed. To realize this, we introduce an inductor having new structure and external connection. By the effective use of electric coupling and magnetic coupling in windings, input impedance of the electronic choke is increased.

In recent years, introduction of an alternative energy source such as solar energy is expected. However, insolation is not constant and output of photovoltaic (PV) system is influenced by meteorological conditions. In order to predict the power output for PV system as accurate as possible, it requires method of insolation estimation. In this paper, the authors take the insolation of each month into consideration, and confirm the validity of using neural network to predict one-day-ahead 24 hours insolation by computer simulations. The proposed method in this paper does not require complicated calculation and mathematical model with only meteorological data.
