The research uses Internet of Things technology for predictive maintenance in the construction sector. The system addresses incorporating Internet of Things sensors into construction machinery to enable real-time monitoring of operating parameters. The study suggests a proactive maintenance strategy that may anticipate equipment breakdowns by examining the data obtained and using sophisticated prediction models. With this strategy, construction teams can arrange maintenance activities systematically, which cuts down on downtime and helps avoid expensive interruptions. The abstract emphasizes the advantages of this practice, which include reducing unexpected downtime as much as possible, extending the life of equipment, and making the most of available resources. The study proves the usefulness of the IoT-based predictive maintenance approach via empirical investigations and the analysis of case studies. This validates the strategy's efficacy, contributing to enhanced equipment performance and increased work efficiency in the construction industry. © 2024 IEEE.

A Novel Circularly Polarized Filtering Reflectarray by Manipulating the Multimode Reflective Phase of Orthogonal Polarizations

This paper presents a novel design methodology for circularly polarized (CP) filtering reflectarray (RA). Unlike conventional filtering techniques based on magnitude response, the proposed filtering RA solely manipulates the phase responses of the reflected wave under the total reflection condition. An isosceles triangle patch radiator loaded with slots is employed as the unit cell. Two sets of orthogonal resonant modes of the triangular patch are exploited to produce a phase difference between the u- and v-polarized components. By adopting slot loading, first- and third-order resonant states are induced in the two orthogonal directions. Next, the phase difference is fully controlled by adjusting the slope of the reflection phase. In the passband, the phase difference is maintained at 180°, while outside the band, it rapidly rolls down (up) to 0° (360°), enabling steep band edges. Finally, a CP filtering RA using the optimized element is constructed for the first time, which verifies the validity of the proposed method. The fabricated RA exhibits satisfactory performance, including a 3-dB gain bandwidth of 25.7%, 3-dB axial ratio (AR) bandwidth of 29.8%, and the out-of-band suppression levels of 33.5 dB (22.8 dB) in the low (high) frequency band. © 1963-2012 IEEE.

This paper presents a framework for the implementation of a digital twin (DT) in electrical grid management. Automation in the electrical energy network has resulted in the transformation into Smart grid, which is utilized for the generation, transmission, and distribution of electrical power as well as interconnecting microgrids with dynamic scheduling and trading options. The evolution of the digital twin offers added advantages including real-time condition monitoring based maintenance of assets based on data analytics, energy forecasting, and prediction for appropriate decision making by investors. Thus, fault diagnosis and detection can be easily handled in the advanced automated future grid. These features have enhanced reliability and offer optimized energy management by incorporating a virtual DT domain. In this paper, some major benefits of establishing a digital twin for the smart-grid is highlighted followed by the case study on monitoring a single component of the Smart grid that is evaluated for the remaining useful life (RUL) of the equipment by using artificial intelligence (AI) algorithm. This approach of preventive maintenance based on DT can be effectively utilized for all the key components in the smart grid-connected via a sensor network for data sampling to reduce downtime and improve the reliability of the overall system. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper presents the design of a broadband Vivaldi antenna intended for radar systems operating across the 2-6 GHz frequency range. The antenna design employs an optimized corrugated Vivaldi antenna and a coaxial feed structure to ensure wideband performance. A 50-ohm N-type connector is integrated for efficient signal transmission between the antenna feed, transmitter, and receiver, minimizing reflection losses and enhancing overall system efficiency. Measurements show that the antenna achieves Half-Power Beamwidth (HPBW) values of 100° for the xz-plane and 80° for the yz-plane at 2.45 GHz, 80° for the xz-plane and 60° for the yz-plane at 3.5 GHz, and 80° for the xz-plane and 40° for the yz-plane at 5.5 GHz. Additionally, the antenna gains increase with frequency, reaching 6.60 dBi at 2.45 GHz, 8.34 dBi at 3.5 GHz, and 11.74 dBi at 5.5 GHz. The proposed Vivaldi antenna configuration is particularly suited for radar applications that require multi-band operation, facilitating the detection and tracking of various target sizes and distances. By covering a broad bandwidth, this design improves radar system performance, particularly in frequency-modulated continuous wave (FMCW) radar environments, enabling robust target detection in diverse operating conditions.

The emphasis on project-based learning (PBL) persists in enhancing engineering curriculum by giving students hands-on experience with real-world experiments, preparing them for the industry. Collaboration between academia and industry allows students to address actual industry challenges through PBL. This platform provides students with genuine learning experiences and industry practices that inspire them throughout their studies. It is important to highlight that South African institutions previously struggled to engage industry partners for educational *** current systematic literature review study wishes to investigate the importance of industry partnerships on PBL within engineering education to benefit both students and industry *** systematic literature review methodology seemed appropriate for the current study due to its nature of extensively reviewing credible electronic databases. The electronic databases opted for included IEEE Xplore, ERIC, ScienceDirect, Web of Science, Elsevier, and Google Scholar. The keywords considered in this study included "project-based learning," "industry partnerships," and "engineering education." The inclusion and exclusion criteria focused on articles credible articles and peer-reviewed conference publications between 2010 and *** industry partnership through PBL equips students with lifelong experiences coupled with problem-solving skills, critical thinking, teamwork, and professional competencies. Academics are also afforded opportunities for industry secondment where they spend some time in industry while being exposed to the latest technologies to enhance their teaching capabilities. Multimodal data processing, especially the fusion of image and speech modality, is important for future human computer interface, medical applications and security surveillance. This research proposes the new machine learning approach for the efficient handling of multimodal data in which feature extraction from images and from the speech signal is obtained by employing CNN and LSTM networks, respectively. These features are combined by a hybrid fusion approach so that the resulting algorithm would be both accurate and fast. CIFAR-10 and LibriSpeech were used to assess the framework;the highest accuracy was 92% whilst the conventional methods like MDNN and EFMS could only reach 86%. Moreover, the analysis showed that the proposed method can take a processing time of 0.15 seconds to taxonomy and 0.45 seconds for speech data, thus making it preferable for real time data. These results illustrate the framework's efficiency in predicting the multimodal input and demonstrate superiority over the prior methods. © 2024 IEEE.

This paper presents a physically unclonable function (PUF) using flash time-to-digital converter (TDC) with linearity self-calibration. The proposed PUF utilizes that the variation of delay of delay elements of TDC is unique to the device and unclonable. The proposed PUF is constructed using the flash TDC with linearity self-calibration using histogram method. With the linearity self-calibration operation, variation of delay elements is estimated. The response output of the PUF is calculated using the estimated variation and the challenge inputs. The proposed PUF is a simple digital circuit consisting of basic digital elements. It is easy to design and implement to both SoC and FPGA. It can be used as not only strong PUF but also as a TDC with fine linearity. The experimental results with Artix7 FPGA show that the intra-chip variation is 8.9 % and the inter-chip variation is 46.9 %. The probability of the correct identification is 99.8 %. Extra resources to construct the proposed PUF are 33.7 % of the resources of the TDC with linearity self-calibration.

This paper describes a new technique for removing impulsive noise in digital color images. The proposed method uses a measure of the pixel distortion caused by the impulsive noise, expressed as the sum of the Euclidean distances between the central pixel and its closest neighbors in the filtering window. This corruption measure is used to determine a weighted average of the pixels from the local neighborhood that is not affected by the distorted pixels. The filtering output is obtained using a soft switching scheme, where the denoising result is determined as a weighted average of the central pixel of a processing window and its robust estimate. The weighting coefficient is calculated based on the amount of distortion of the central pixel. Thus, if the central pixel is highly distorted, it is replaced by its robust estimate, otherwise it is not significantly changed. The parameters that determine the image enhancement result are adaptively adjusted by using a noise-resistant image contrast measure. The proposed filter design is able to effectively suppress impulsive noise while preserving fine image details and edges. Comparison with existing algorithms shows that the proposed method provides better denoising results than the most efficient filters designed for impulsive noise suppression in color images. Moreover, the new method is very fast and can be used in real-time denoising scenarios.

Air quality is a major public health issue globally. Air pollution is responsible for millions of premature deaths annually and can cause a range of health problems, including respiratory diseases. The need to develop emergent materials and new technologies to increase air quality offers a series of opportunities due to the benefits offered. Emerging materials can be used to create more efficient air filters, air quality monitoring sensors and catalysts to reduce emissions. This article summarizes the main legislative regulations for reducing pollution, as well as emerging materials that play a role in increasing air purity. The main methods of increasing air quality are highlighted: nanoremediation and nanofiltration, mentioning their main disadvantages.

In recent years,there has been an increasing demand to improve cellular communication services in several *** aspect that received the most attention is improving the quality of coverage through using smart antennas which consist of array *** paper investigates the main characteristics and design of the three types of array antennas of the base station for better coverage through simulation(MATLAB)which provides field and strength patterns measured in polar and rectangular coordinates for a variety of conditions including broadsides,ordinary End-fire,and increasing directivity End-fire which is typically used in smart *** method of analysis was applied to twenty experiments of process design to each antenna type separately,so sixty results were obtained from the radiation pattern indicating the parameters for each radiation ***,nineteen design experiments were described in this *** is hoped that the results obtained from this study will help engineers solve coverage problems as well as improve the quality of cellular communication networks.
