A model of a sewer network for a medium city located in Easter Romania with 250,000 inhabitants is presented in the paper. The model was developed using BSM Sewer software package. An influent was also determined considering the 5 collecting areas and defined on a time- horizon of 28 days. The influent has the following components: a domestic one calculated using the average wastewater production of each inhabitant with specific loads and considering daily, weekly and yearly variations, a pluviometric one proportional to the collecting area surface that includes a rain event and a storm one and an industrial influent (considered only for the 5 th collecting area). The model was tested in different operating conditions of the sewer network considering three operating points given by the values of the valve opening and pumps flows at the tank outlets. The results were analyzed based on 10 performance indicators implemented by researchers from Lund University for BSM Sewer. They showed the need for an optimization of the operating regime of the sewer network in terms of volume and quality of discharged water.

For acute stroke patients, time to recognize the stroke symptom onset is crucial for the lifesaving treatment. The automatic detection of stroke signs has been increasingly developed for practical use. The better timely classification results could allow better detection of the symptoms and avoid morbidity and mortality. In this study, we proposed using cosine similarity between the left and right sides of the face as a part of features for classifying the stroke elderly patients from healthy elderly participants. We employed our method on images from the Toronto NeuroFace dataset. The results showed high classification accuracy (the average accuracy of 97.8998% from 6 classification methods). These results indicate that the cosine similarity features can be useful to detect facial asymmetry and pose very promising potential for elderly stroke detection. © 2022 IEEE.

In light of advancements in artificial intelligence, the Internet of Things, and mechatronics, robots are increasingly integrated into e-commerce warehouses to enable smart order picking solutions and foster intelligent automation. A robot-assisted order picking process revolutionizes the traditional labor-intensive person-to-goods order picking technology, leading to a goods-to-person (G2P) smart warehouse. Within it, robots transport pods to predefined picking stations, where human pickers retrieve the requested goods from these pods to fulfill customer orders. The allocation of pods to robots and the scheduling of picking operations are key optimization issues in G2P order picking systems. Although they play a key role in improving operational efficiency, existing research has paid limited attention to their joint optimization. This study considers a lexicographic multi-objective optimization problem to shorten the order picking cycles under the premise of optimizing the picking efficiency evaluated by makespan. We build a mixed integer program for the newly proposed problem and develop a matheuristic algorithm by integrating a commodity-order model into a metaheuristic algorithm to solve it. Experimental results show that the proposed method can significantly shorten the total order picking cycles while keeping the minimum makespan. It outperforms a recent state-of-the-art algorithm. This work emphasizes the importance of joint optimization within G2P smart warehouses and reveals the high potential of the proposed method to be used in practice. © 2024 IEEE.

Based on the energy flow theory of nonlinear dynamical system,the stabilities,bifurcations,possible periodical/chaotic motions of nonlinear water-lubricated bearing-shaft coupled systems are investigated in this *** is revealed that the energy flow characteristics around the equlibrium point of system behaving in the three types with different friction-para-mters.(a)Energy flow matrix has two negative and one positive energy flow factors,constructing an attractive local zero-energy flow surface,in which free vibrations by initial disturbances show damped modulated oscillations with the system tending its equlibrium state,while forced vibrations by external forces show stable oscillations,(b)Energy flow matrix has one negative and two positive energy flow factors,spaning a divergence local zero-energy flow surface,so that the both free and forced vibrations are divergence oscillations with the system being unstable,(c)Energy flow matrix has a zero-energy flow factor and two opposite factors,which constructes a local zero-energy flow surface dividing the local phase space into stable,unstable and central subspace,and the simulation shows friction self-induced unstable vibrations for both free and forced *** a set of friction parameters,the system behaves a periodical oscillation,where the bearing motion tends zero and the shaft motion reaches a stable limit circle in phase space with the instant energy flow tending a constant and the time averaged one tending *** simulations have not found any possible chaotic motions of the *** is discovered that the damping matrices of cases(a),(b)and(c)respectively have positive,negative and zero diagonal elements,resulting in the different dynamic behavour of system,which gives a giderline to design the water-lubricated bearing unit with expected performance by adjusting the friction parameters for applications.

control performance decreases significantly in the presence of uncertainty in variable availability, measurement noise, or instrumentation failure. In cluttered environments such as the Post Anesthesia Care Unit (PACU), clinical measures are often influenced by noise and artifacts. An important component in post-operative treatment is the assessment and management of pain levels. However, reliable information is critical for clinically relevant results and improved patient outcomes. From a control engineering point of view, variables are often estimated and interpolated to allow a suitable flow of feedback information to control loops for the optimization of drug dosages. In this context, Artificial Intelligence (AI) stands as a promising tool to augment pain level assessment. This study introduces and compares two AI-based approaches for predicting continuous Numerical Rating Scales (NRS) based on heart rate (HR) data. The first approach uses polynomial regression, lasso regression, and ridge regression, while the second employs an LSTM model. Notably, the AI prediction model, independent of traditional interpolation techniques, outperforms the approach relying on interpolation. The proposed AI-based method holds promise for continuous estimation and can serve as an estimator for model-based control. This proof of concept study underscores the potential of AI tools to enhance pain level assessment.

Falls are one of the most dangerous problems for the elderly. A reliable fall detection system can aid in reducing the harmful repercussions of an unintentional fall. The focus of this paper is on a dataset that includes signals from portable devices. We propose a simple feature selection approach to reduce the number of effective input attributes based on a voting strategy. The dataset is classified into three categories, i.e., pre-fall, fall and post-fall using various machine learning approaches. The computational time is significantly reduced for most of the classification algorithms, and the relative reduction reaches to 66.67% with decision tree algorithm. Classification accuracy can reach as high as 95.17% when using neural network, while the relative reductions on the classification accuracy due to the feature selection do not exceed 1.50%. © 2022 IEEE.

Derived from the current implementation of the production plan as well as the production schedule, Enterprise Resource Planning software with a built-in production scheduling algorithm helps optimize the uses of resources, reduce production time, increase productivity, and increase customer service levels. In this research, the available management platform (Odoo) with Python as the main programming language is proposed to build a system to support suitable schedule production plans helps shorten processing time and reduce order delay. In addition, the results are shown in detail and can be flexibly modified manually on the Gantt chart. The feasibility of the production scheduling application is shown by the Gantt chart before and after the scheduling. Moreover, the order delay rate has been reduced from 15% to 3.33%. © 2023 IEEE.

The operation of most wastewater treatment systems is an open-loop system. There is limited feedback control of membrane bioreactors (MBR) which makes it impossible to regulate the quality of the treated water. The objectives of this paper are twofold. First, we analyze the equilibrium point of the MBR nonlinear model. Second, we utilize output feedback control with state observer and design optimal PID controllers. We determine the optimum equilibrium point and derive a linearized model of MBR. Then, we design the state observer to estimate the non-measurable state using the pole placement method. Both the measurable output and estimated state are fed back through PID controller. The objectives of PID control consist of stabilization and performance improvement. Genetic Algorithm is applied to find the optimal PID parameters that minimize the integral of absolute error and satisfy the specified time-domain criteria. We apply the observer-based PID controller to the linearized model of MBR. Numerical results demonstrate the design of PID controller and the improvement of the closed-loop response and quality of the treated water. © 2021 IEEE

In substations, violations such as smoking may lead to equipment damage and even threaten the safety of personnel. In this paper, a GhostNetV2-YOLOv5 based algorithm for detecting smoking by substation personnel is proposed. The algorithm uses GhostNetV2 as the backbone network to improve the accuracy of the model while achieving real-time detection of smoking behavior. The experimental results show that the method can improve the detection speed of the model without reducing the detection accuracy, and compared with the original YOLOv5 algorithm, the total mAP is improved by 2.58% and the prediction speed is improved by 1.61 times, which is superior to other smoking detection networks and has practical application value.

The observer design problem for the cell population estimation in a yeast batch process is addressed. The cell population balance model is described by a partial integro-differential equation coupled with a set of ordinary differential equations. Based on the observability property of the first moment of the cell distribution and the structural observability of the discretized cell population balance model, an extended Kalman Filter operating on online biomass measurements is designed for the model equations. The observer is validated using experimental data.
