Stability of partially unstable discrete-time switched positive nonlinear systems with delays

This paper addresses the stability issue of discrete-time switched positive nonlinear systems (SPNSs) characterized by partial unstable subsystems and constant delays. Firstly, we use a parameter to constrain the ratio of active durations of the stable and unstable modes, and derive the exponential stability conditions for SPNSs based on a key function. Then we analyze the relationship between convergence speed and the constant delay. Additionally, we obtain a stability criterion of SPNSs under a particular sequence of switching signals. Finally, we validate the results through a numerical example.

This study proposes an innovative diagnostic approach for coupling misalignment faults by integrating dynamic modeling with transfer learning. It tackles the challenge of limited fault samples in real-world diagnostic scenarios, a common obstacle to developing robust diagnostic models. A dynamic model of coupling misalignment is first established, generating diverse misalignment fault signals that are experimentally validated. Time- and frequency-domain features are then extracted from both simulated and experimental vibration signals. The Laplace Score (LS) method is utilized to select sensitive features, with simulated signal features serving as training samples and experimental signal features as testing samples. Transfer Component Analysis (TCA) is employed to reduce distributional differences between the two datasets. Subsequently, the Cuckoo Search (CS) algorithm optimizes a Support Vector Machine (SVM), yielding a robust model that effectively detects coupling misalignment faults. Experimental validation achieves 98.43% fault recognition accuracy, surpassing the baseline TCA-CS-SVM approach (90.31% without feature selection), thereby providing a novel solution for detecting coupling misalignment faults. © 2025 IOP Publishing Ltd. Label Cluster Chains for Multi-Label Classification

Multi-label classification is a type of supervised machine learning that can simultaneously assign multiple labels to an instance. To solve this task, some methods divide the original problem into several sub-problems (local approach), others learn all labels at once (global approach), and others combine several classifiers (ensemble approach). Regardless of the approach used, exploring and learning label correlations is important to improve the classifier predictions. Ensemble of Classifier Chains (ECC) is a well-known multi-label method that considers label correlations and can achieve good overall performance on several multi-label datasets and evaluation measures. However, one of the challenges when working with ECC is the high dimensionality of the label space, which can impose limitations for fully-cascaded chains as the complexity increases regarding feature space expansion. To improve classifier chains, we propose a method to chain disjoint correlated label clusters obtained by applying a partition method in the label space. During the training phase, the ground truth labels of each cluster are used as new features for all of the following clusters. During the test phase, the predicted labels of clusters are used as new features for all the following clusters. Our proposal, called Label Cluster Chains for Multi-Label Classification (LCC-ML), uses multi-label Random Forests as base classifiers in each cluster, combining their predictions to obtain a final multi-label classification. Our proposal obtained better results compared to the original ECC. Finite-size scaling of geometric renormalization flows in complex networks

Some characteristics of complex networks need to be derived from global knowledge of the network topologies, which challenges the practice for studying many large-scale real-world networks. Recently, the geometric renormalization technique has provided a good approximation framework to significantly reduce the size and complexity of a network while retaining its “slow” degrees of freedom. However, due to the finite-size effect of real networks, excessive renormalization iterations will eventually cause these important “slow” degrees of freedom to be filtered out. In this paper, we systematically investigate the finite-size scaling of structural and dynamical observables in geometric renormalization flows of both synthetic and real evolutionary networks. Our results show that these observables can be well characterized by a certain scaling function. Specifically, we show that the critical exponent implied by the scaling function is independent of these observables but depends only on the structural properties of the network. To a certain extent, the results of this paper are of great significance for predicting the observable quantities of large-scale real systems and further suggest that the potential scale invariance of many real-world networks is often masked by finite-size effects.

This work presents preliminary results of a clinical study with sub-acute stroke patients using a hybrid system for wrist rehabilitation. The patients trained their wrist flexion/extension motion through a target tracking task, where electrical stimulation and robotic torque assisted them proportionally to their tracking error. Five sub-acute stroke patients have completed the training for 3 sessions on separate days. The preliminary results show hybrid assistance improves tracking performance and motion smoothness in most participants. In each session, patients' tracking performances before and after training were evaluated in unassisted tracking trials, without assistance. Their unassisted performance was compared across sessions and the results suggest that moderately to severely impaired patients might benefit more from hybrid training with our system than mildly impaired patients. Subjective assessments from all sessions show that the patients found the use of the device very comfortable and the training enjoyable. More data is being collected and future work will aim at verifying these trends.

Individual pitch controller with static inverted decoupling for periodic blade load reduction on monopile offshore wind turbines

Individual pitch control (IPC) is a technique used to reduce periodic blade loads in wind turbines. It generally uses the multiblade coordinate transformation to convert blade load measurements from a rotating frame into a two-axes non-rotating frame. Although these non-rotating axes are assumed to be decoupled, studies reveal persistent interactions. Reducing this coupling, such as by introducing an azimuth offset, enhances IPC performance. This study explores the impact of static inverted decoupling, which decouples the process in the steady state, on IPC performance. The proposed IPCs are adaptive, scheduling controller and decoupling gains based on operational conditions. In such IPC designs, the integral gains of the diagonal controllers and the decoupling elements can either be the same or different. These methods were validated on a simulated 15 MW wind turbine. controller parameter optimization was accomplished through genetic algorithms to minimize blade fatigue loads, measured via the damage equivalent load (DEL). Results indicate that incorporating static inverted decoupling into IPC improves blade load reduction without increasing pitch actuator effort. IPCs with similar integral gains and matching absolute values in decoupling elements achieved the best balance between DEL reduction and complexity with minimal actuator effort, while additional optimization parameters provided negligible improvements. © 2025 Elsevier Ltd

The fluxgate sensor is the most widely used sensor in vector magnetic measurement. However, during long-term continuous observation, the fluxgate sensor will produce large measurement errors due to changes in ambient temperature. This paper proposes a temperature calibration method for the fluxgate sensor based on polynomial fitting to address the temperature error of fluxgate sensors. First, the effect of temperature on the performance indicators of the fluxgate sensor was analyzed. Second, according to the existing temperature-magnetic field data, a temperature calibration model of the fluxgate sensor was constructed. And compared it with other temperature calibration method, the result shows that the proposed temperature calibration method is relatively simple and can better achieve real-time calibration for sensor application scenarios. Finally, to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method, numerous laboratory experiments were implemented. The temperature drift was reduced from about 700 nT before calibration to about 1 nT, root mean square error RMSE=11.7189, indicating that the proposed method has a good temperature calibration effect on the data measured by the fluxgate sensor within the variable temperature background. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

This paper provides some sufficient conditions to achieve asymptotic stability of switched systems under spatiotemporal specifications via a state-dependent switching law. A common finite-time barrier function, multiple barrier functions and multiple Lyapunov functions are merged as a tool for analyzing the asymptotic stability of a switched nonlinear system under spatio-temporal specifications. Finally, a numerical example is presented to demonstrate the effectiveness of our proposed method.

Utility coupling promotes cooperation in multiplayer snowdrift games on interdependent simplicial networks

Real-world social networks often contain not only one-to-one pairwise interactions, but also multi-person group interactions involving more than two individuals. To reveal the important role of such group interactions (i.e., higher order topology) for the evolution of cooperation, we here use interdependent simplicial network topologies, where the evolutionary interactions, governed by the snowdrift game, are thus explored beyond pairwise links. We also consider utility coupling between two network layers in an uncorrelated interdependence. Systematic Monte Carlo simulations lead us to two main conclusions. First, we find that the level of cooperation can be elevated by increasing the utility coupling value. And second, cooperation tends to decline when we increase the number of 2-simplex interactions. However, despite the later result, the overall cooperation level on both interdependent networks is still higher than that on any isolated network. We hope that these results will inspire future research on cooperation among unrelated individuals in higher order networks.

This paper develops a class of iterative learning control (ILC) laws for a subclass of uncertain spatially interconnected systems. Model uncertainties appear both in the state and the output equation of the dynamics modeled in the 2D systems setting to which existing results are not applicable. The first stage is to write the dynamics in 2D model form. Then the stability theory for a distinct class of 2D systems known as repetitive processes is used to develop the ILC law in the case of differential dynamics. This analysis results in a design algorithm that can be applied using linear matrix inequalities.
