Multiplex collaboration networks facilitate intricate connections among individuals, enabling multidimensional collaborations across various domains and fostering synergistic knowledge exchange. This study focuses on the construction and basic analysis of a multiplex collaboration network among employees at the faculty of computer science and engineering (FCSE), Ss. Cyril and Methodius University in Skopje. The multiplex network is built with three layers based on: scientific collaborations resulting from joint project participations by FCSE employees, joint employees participations in the FCSE graduation thesis committees, and scientific FCSE employees collaborations defined by co-authorships in Google Scholar papers. The network’s structure plays a vital role in determining the information accessibility and cooperative opportunities for individuals within FCSE institution. The aim here is to investigate the FCSE multiplex collaboration network’s internal structure for discovering its latent knowledge and understand its implications. We perform identification of key individuals within the network, by computing various centrality and hubs detection network metrics. Additionally, we employ a community detection algorithm to reveal the underlying modular structure of the network. By comprehensively analyzing the acquired multiplex collaboration network model, we contribute to a better understanding of the collaboration patterns among FCSE employees. The findings can potentially inform decision-making processes and foster strategic planning aimed at enhancing collaboration and knowledge sharing within the institution. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2024.

FACNet: Feature alignment fast point cloud completion network

Point cloud completion aims to infer complete point clouds based on partial 3D point cloud *** previous methods apply coarseto-fine strategy networks for generating complete point ***,such methods are not only relatively time-consuming but also cannot provide representative complete shape features based on partial *** this paper,a novel feature alignment fast point cloud completion network(FACNet)is proposed to directly and efficiently generate the detailed shapes of *** aligns high-dimensional feature distributions of both partial and complete point clouds to maintain global information about the complete *** its decoding process,the local features from the partial point cloud are incorporated along with the maintained global information to ensure complete and time-saving generation of the complete point *** results show that FACNet outperforms the state-of-theart on PCN,Completion3D,and MVP datasets,and achieves competitive performance on ShapeNet-55 and KITTI ***,FACNet and a simplified version,FACNet-slight,achieve a significant speedup of 3–10 times over other state-of-the-art methods.

Weighted rank aggregation based on ranker accuracies for feature selection

Rank aggregation is the combination of several ranked lists from a set of candidates to achieve a better ranking by combining information from different sources. In feature selection problem, due to the heterogeneity of methods, there are some base rankers (Filter-based methods) that are of diverse quality and usually the ground truth of ratings is not available. Existing rank aggregation methods that take the diverse quality of base rankers into account do not have any explicit approach for appropriate weighting, require prior assumptions, and suffers from high computational complexity. In this paper, to overcome these challenges, an efficient unsupervised method is introduced for estimating the base rankers’ qualities and aggregating the rankers based on the estimated weights. We first compute the ratio of disagreement between base rankers in ordering different element pairs and then estimate the accuracies in a way that to minimize the discrepancy between these computed ratios and their analytical counterparts. We use the weighted majority voting method for obtaining the aggregated results. To resolve the probable inconsistencies in the final aggregation, the result is formed as a graph, and a greedy algorithm is used to find an acyclic subgraph with the highest weigh. To demonstrate the performance of the proposed method, nine standard UCI datasets are used. The obtained results by the proposed method have higher values of classifier measures than the existing baseline Feature Selection methods and rank aggregation-based multi-filter methods in the most datasets. The experiments show that rank aggregation-based Feature Selection methods outperform individual methods. Drug–target interactions prediction based on similarity graph features extraction and deep learning

Identifying drug–target interactions (DTIs) is a critical step in both drug repositioning. The labor-intensive, time-consuming, and costly nature of classic DTI laboratory studies makes it imperative to create efficient computer algorithms to forecast possible DTIs. However, current computational approaches that predict potential drug–target interactions (DTIs) suffer from some limitations, like finding the best similarity measures or negative samples, and thus require substantial performance improvement. This study proposes an integrated approach based on feature representation and deep learning to predict DTIs. We extract the relevant features of drugs and proteins from heterogeneous networks using graph mining techniques. The proposed approach constructs a heterogeneous graph from the known drug–protein interactions, protein–protein, and drug–drug similarities. Then applying two feature extraction techniques to extract the features, then utilizing these features in training a deep learning model to predict the potential DTIs. Also, a novel algorithm is proposed to find the negative samples based on the drug and protein similarity matrices. Four Benchmark datasets are used to evaluate the proposed approach. Our approach achieves the highest AUC (area under the ROC curve) across all datasets (0.98) with around 2% increases over the existing methods. Experimental results demonstrate that our proposed approach outperforms the baseline methods in predicting DTI, and our negative sample-identifying algorithm could be established as a competitive solution. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2024.

A Weakly-Supervised Crowd Density Estimation Method Based on Two-Stage Linear Feature Calibration

In a crowd density estimation dataset,the annotation of crowd locations is an extremely laborious task,and they are not taken into the evaluation *** this paper,we aim to reduce the annotation cost of crowd datasets,and propose a crowd density estimation method based on weakly-supervised learning,in the absence of crowd position supervision information,which directly reduces the number of crowds by using the number of pedestrians in the image as the supervised *** this purpose,we design a new training method,which exploits the correlation between global and local image features by incremental learning to train the ***,we design a parent-child network(PC-Net)focusing on the global and local image respectively,and propose a linear feature calibration structure to train the PC-Net simultaneously,and the child network learns feature transfer factors and feature bias weights,and uses the transfer factors and bias weights to linearly feature calibrate the features extracted from the Parent network,to improve the convergence of the network by using local features hidden in the crowd *** addition,we use the pyramid vision transformer as the backbone of the PC-Net to extract crowd features at different levels,and design a global-local feature loss function(L2).We combine it with a crowd counting loss(LC)to enhance the sensitivity of the network to crowd features during the training process,which effectively improves the accuracy of crowd density *** experimental results show that the PC-Net significantly reduces the gap between fullysupervised and weakly-supervised crowd density estimation,and outperforms the comparison methods on five datasets of Shanghai Tech Part A,ShanghaiTech Part B,UCF_CC_50,UCF_QNRF and JHU-CROWD++.

Image classification of lotus in Nong Han Chaloem Phrakiat Lotus Park using convolutional neural networks

The Nong Han Chaloem Phrakiat Lotus Park is a tourist attraction and a source of learning regarding lotus ***,as a training area,it lacks appeal and learning motivation due to its conventional presentation of information regarding lotus *** current study introduced the concept of smart learning in this setting to increase interest and motivation for *** neural networks(CNNs)were used for the classification of lotus plant species,for use in the development of a mobile application to display details about each *** scope of the study was to classify 11 species of lotus plants using the proposed CNN model based on different techniques(augmentation,dropout,and L2)and hyper parameters(dropout and epoch number).The expected outcome was to obtain a high-performance CNN model with reduced total parameters compared to using three different pre-trained CNN models(Inception V3,VGG16,and VGG19)as *** performance of the model was presented in terms of accuracy,F1-score,precision,and recall *** results showed that the CNN model with the augmentation,dropout,and L2 techniques at a dropout value of 0.4 and an epoch number of 30 provided the highest testing accuracy of *** best proposed model was more accurate than the pre-trained CNN models,especially compared to Inception *** addition,the number of total parameters was reduced by approximately 1.80–2.19 *** findings demonstrated that the proposed model with a small number of total parameters had a satisfactory degree of classification accuracy.

Evaluation of phone posterior probabilities for pathology detection in speech data using deep learning models

Voice pathology detection (VPD) aims to accurately identify voice impairments by analyzing speech signals. This study proposes models based on deep learning (DL) for binary classification to distinguish between healthy and pathological voices, with a unique focus on the integration of phone posterior probabilities (PPPs as phonetic-based features) alongside Mel-frequency cepstral coefficients (MFCCs as acoustic-based features) for input models. By incorporating PPPs as supplementary information, we investigate the model’s performance across spontaneous, sustained vowel, and read speech datasets, addressing the gap in comparing these speech types for VPD. Our results highlight that PPPs significantly enhance classification accuracy, particularly for read speech and spontaneous speech data types. Using the AVFAD database, we show that the proposed CNN-based model achieves its highest performance on spontaneous speech, with an accuracy of approximately 87% on test data and 93% on validation data. This study emphasizes the impact of PPPs as phonetic-based features in VPD tasks and clarifies which types of speech benefit most from their inclusion, paving the way for more refined models in this field. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer science+Business Media, LLC, part of Springer Nature 2025.

Synthesis of batik motifs using a diffusion - generative adversarial network

This paper presents a novel approach for generating intricate Batik motifs using a modified Diffusion-Generative Adversarial Network (Diffusion-GAN) augmented with StyleGAN2-Ada. Motivated by the rich cultural heritage of Indonesian Batik, our research addresses the challenge of synthesizing high-quality, diverse patterns that capture the artistry and complexity of traditional designs. Traditional generative models often struggle with stability and fidelity in artistic synthesis. We integrate StyleGAN2-Ada and Diffusion techniques to overcome these limitations, optimizing model architecture and employing a curated Batik dataset. Evaluation metrics including Frechet Inception Distance (FID), Kernel Inception Distance (KID), precision, recall, and non-redundancy assess the quality and diversity of generated motifs. Our results demonstrate significant advancements in the realism and authenticity of synthesized Batik patterns, leveraging Diffusion-GAN to enhance detail and artistic fidelity. By exploring the intersection of deep learning and cultural art, this research contributes to the preservation and evolution of Batik as a cultural artifact. References to prior works underscore the evolution of Artificial Intelligence (AI) in cultural heritage preservation, highlighting the potential of modern AI techniques to innovate within traditional art forms like Batik. In summary, this study showcases the efficacy of the proposed Diffusion-GAN methodology in synthesizing original and convincing Batik motifs, while identifying opportunities for further refinement and complexity in motif synthesis. Create a crowd emotion detection framework with ecological validity

Ecological validity remains essential for generalizing scientific research into real-world applications. However, current methods for crowd emotion detection lack ecological validity due to limited diversity samples in datasets. This paper proposes a crowd emotion detection framework that improves the ecological validity of models from both dataset and methodological perspectives. Firstly, we develop an Emotional Crowd Generator script within Grand Theft Auto V to generate a large-scale and diverse synthetic emotional crowd dataset, named Emotional-GTA (E-GTA). Secondly, we utilize prior features to enhance the model's generalization ability, especially for rare samples. Building on this, we introduce the dual-driven Graph-based Prior feature and Image Fusion Network (GPIFN), which further strengthens our model's ecological validity from a methodological perspective. We propose a graphical representation that effectively constructs the Crowd Image Graph (CIG) and the Crowd Prior Features Graph (CPG), which represent crowds from the perspectives of image and prior features, respectively. We then design a dual-stream network GPIFN that extracts image features from the CIG and prior features from the CPG. Additionally, we design an Image and Prior features Fusion Module (IPFM) that efficiently merges image and prior features while preserving the original stream features. Our experiments demonstrate that both E-GTA and GPIFN greatly enhance ecological validity in real-world scenarios. Our framework achieves state-of-the-art results on real-world datasets: UMN and Violent-Flows. © 2010-2012 IEEE.

A new bi-level deep human action representation structure based on the sequence of sub-actions

Human action recognition is applicable in different domains. Previously proposed methods cannot appropriately consider the sequence of sub-actions. Herein, we propose a semantical action model based on the sequence of sub-actions. A technique is used to segment actions on the time axis based on body movements via an energy diagram. After dividing actions into sub-actions, a novel bi-level deep structure is used to extract their features. Then, the sequence of sub-action features is modeled by a deep network to create the action model. As extracted sub-actions have fewer variations in execution manner, their representation is more stable, and modeling their sequence would be an efficient model. Experimental results on UCF-YouTube, UCF-Sport, and Human Motion DataBase (HMDB) datasets indicate the sustainable performance of this method. Overall, the accuracy of the proposed method is 0.972 on average, while the value for the second-best method is 0.925. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag London Ltd., part of Springer Nature 2024.
