This paper presents a study which examines the pedagogical-interactional dimensions in computer science education at universities of applied sciences, focusing on the expectations and perceptions of students and professors. Data were collected using a modified version of the Learning Culture Inventory (LCI) questionnaire and analyzed both descriptively and *** descriptive statistics reveal differences in the mean values between the ideal and real states of educational conditions as perceived by students and professors. Inferential statistical analyses using t-tests identified significant differences between the perceptions of the two groups. The effect size Cohen's d was also calculated to determine the strength of the existing difference. The analyses show that there are significant differences in many dimensions of the LCI between the perspectives of students and professors. These differences are often associated with high effect sizes. The results therefore indicate that the students' expectations and perceptions deviate (considerably) from the professors' perspectives. © 2024 IEEE.

Cancer detection and predetection are being highly researched and studied recently due to the high density spread of this disease. It occurs when abnormal cells divide continuously without limitation where it can spread randomly to different parts of the body. Different types of cancer are recorded targeting the blood, lungs, bones, liver, and many other organs. People with cancer have similar symptoms such as lumps, abnormal bleeding, eating problems, fatigue, weight loss, and some more severe issues. Breast Cancer, which will be addressed in this work, is a type of cancer that hits women in general. It is dangerous especially when cells around the breast area overgrow and cause lumps on the breasts. In order to pre-detect and try to avoid breast cancer., it's important to perform annual mammography check. This work is aimed to create a classification system that uses neural network algorithms to conclude whether a certain tumor is a malignant or a benign tumor. Back Propagation algorithm as well as supervised learning were used and tested with highly satisfying successful classification. © 2023 IEEE.

Epilepsy is a common neurological disease which is sudden and unpredictable. In response to the current problems of low efficiency and high false detection rate in epilepsy detection, this paper proposes an efficient convolutional neural network (CNN) hardware intellectual property (IP) design scheme for epilepsy detection. According to the epilepsy pathology, the oversampling technique is used to solve the sample imbalance. Filters out the noise by using band-pass filters, and improves the model by using Z-score normalization. Then, the structure of convolutional neural network is optimized to build an end-to-end network model and train the corresponding weights as well as biases. A single convolutional kernel is used to lighten the network model and reduce the parameters. The 22-channel EEG data are processed in a parallelized manner to fully extract the correlation between the channels. The 3-layer convolutional and max pooling module is designed by combining with pipelining technique. Validated on the CHB-MIT dataset, the epilepsy detection accuracy is reached 97.45%. Under TSMC 65 nm process, the IP core area is measured as 1.625 mm 2 , power consumption is measured as 4.225 mW, single detection delay is 0.01935 ms, and single detection energy consumption is 0.237 μJ/class. © 2024 IEEE.

Digital image quality is essential for a variety of applications in visual information processing, including medical diagnostics, defence, and many other applications. However, there are several challenges that must be overcome before an image can be used, and these often result in noise, distortion, and degradation. The field of image restoration is growing in significance as it focuses on repairing and restoring damaged images. With the increasing number of imaging equipment and the wide range of applications, image restoration techniques are becoming more and more important. Because of the challenges posed by low light levels, sensor noise, and other environmental limitations, more analysis on restoration strategies is needed. This study provides researchers, practitioners, and students with a clear understanding of image restoration techniques by providing an extensive overview of the developments in different fields. This research study offers a comprehensive analysis by analysing the development of these techniques, from traditional methodologies to the most recent deep learning approaches. Here we have proposed a novel architecture for image restoration, designed to facilitate seamless implementation and achieve high-quality results. © 2024 IEEE.

As the prevalence of diabetes mellitus rises, more families are being impacted. Most diabetics don't know much about their health situation or the risks they face before getting a diagnosis. A unique data mining-based method was suggested for the prediction of type 2 diabetes mellitus (T2DM) in this study. The accuracy and robustness of the prediction model are the primary priorities, ensuring flexibility so that it may be used to other datasets. The model is made up of two parts: the enhanced Logistic Regression with Multilayer Perception (LRMLP) and Naïve Bayes (NB) method with a set of preprocessing techniques. To compare the findings with those of other studies, the Diabetes Dataset for Pima Indians was used with the Environment for Knowledge Analysis toolkit. According to the findings, the model's prediction accuracy is higher than that of earlier research. Additionally, this approach guarantees that the dataset quality is enough. The system was applied to two more diabetes datasets in order to assess its effectiveness further. Both research findings show strong performance. The model is shown to be helpful for managing diabetic health in a realistic manner as a result. For experimental analysis, data from the University of California, Irvine's (UCI) machine learning repository's Pima Indian Diabetes Database (PIDD) is used. These classification algorithms' performance is evaluated using a variety of statistical metrics, including sensitivity (recall), precision, F-score, and accuracy. The measurement of correctly and erroneously classified cases is called accuracy. According to the testing findings, LR-MLP outscored other classification algorithms and provides the maximum accuracy of 96.3%. © 2023 IEEE.

Immeasurable efforts have been put into strengthening energy security and reducing greenhouse gas emissions by meeting growing energy demand. With declining costs and increasing performance, the deployment of PV systems is growing faster. The focus is on standalone solar photovoltaic systems in rural areas or where grid extension is not feasible. Meteorological conditions impact the standalone PV system's behavior. To avoid critical situations during the PV system operation, it is necessary to implement preventive measures. A PV emulator helps to understand better the behavior of the standalone PV system in critical conditions. This paper presents an intelligent and low-cost PV emulator, with focus on behavior of Li-ion battery, which can be remotely monitored and controlled. The proposed PV emulator consists of: A power supply which has the same behavior as the PV panels, battery storage, consumers which are represented by a electronic load (eload) and remote control functions by using mobile applications. The PV emulator was tested and the behavior of battery was analyzed during the charging and discharging processes. It was determined the capacity of battery is influenced by the values of charging and discharging currents. The ambient temperature influences the internal temperature of Li-ion battery and the PV emulator was stopped when the temperature of Li-ion battery was greater than 53o C. © 2024 IEEE.

The Earth’s surface is continuously warming, changing our planet’s average balance of nature. While we live and experience the impacts of global warming, people debate whether global warming is a threat to our planet or a hoax. This paper uses relevant global warming tweets to analyze sentiment and show how people’s opinions change over time concerning global warming. This analysis can contribute to understanding public perception, identify misinformation, and support climate advocacy. This paper proposes a data processing pipeline encompassing traditional and deep learning based methods, including VADER, TextBlob, Doc2Vec, Word2Vec, LSTMs, to name a few. The extensive testing shows that the combination of document embeddings and neural networks yields the best results of up to 97% AUC ROC and 93% accuracy. The findings enable the comprehension of human attitudes and actions related to this worldwide issue in production environments. © ICST Institute for computer sciences, Social Informatics and Telecommunications engineering 2024.

Decentralized applications leveraging blockchain technology are gaining widespread adoption within the decentralized applications ecosystem. Interoperability, a fundamental concept facilitating seamless data and processing power exchange across diverse blockchain networks, is paramount in this context. The primary objective of this paper is to explore the transformative potential of "blockchain bridges" in facilitating secure and transparent electronic voting processes across multiple blockchain networks. The study employs a comprehensive analysis of various approaches, including atomic exchanges, sidechains, cross-chain bridges, token wrappers, and interledger protocols. The selection of a specific method is guided by the unique requirements and privacy considerations of the electronic voting use case. The application of two distinct blockchains serves as a practical demonstration, illustrating the principles of blockchain bridges in real-world scenarios. The research reveals that blockchain bridges not only streamline the exchange of data between diverse blockchain networks but also establish a dual decentralization paradigm. This paradigm enables the creation of openly maintained, purpose-specific, decentralized ledgers for electronic voting. The integration of blockchain bridges significantly reduces the risk of fraud, instilling greater confidence in the accuracy of election results. Thus, by presenting a comprehensive array of approaches and emphasizing their practical application, this research contributes to advancing the understanding and implementation of blockchain technology in the critical domain of electronic voting. © 2023, Ital Publication. The efforts for data transparency and open government initiatives have resulted in a large amount of data being published on open data portals. These portals are organized to enhance published data accessibility by providing search mechanisms that utilize metadata such as category, tags, format, and publisher. However, due to the metadata incompleteness, such as missing category information, datasets are harder to find. Therefore, within this paper, we address the issue of missing category information by proposing an approach for categorizing datasets using keywords and their usage within categories. The presented approach is based on the Formal Concept Analysis method, which is used to create a hierarchical order of keywords grounded on their usage within categories on one open data portal. Further, we present the evaluation of the presented method using data from the Canadian open data portal. © 2024 IEEE.

Random packed beds are often employed in chemical reactors as a means to increase the contact surface between reactants or a catalyst. The present work proposes a helical flow deflector placed within the bed and numerical simulations are performed to analyse the influence of the deflector on the tortuosity of the flow paths in the reactor and the pressure drop. The geometry of the packed bed is obtained in a separate numerical simulation with sequential deposition of ring-like equilateral particles. The flow equations are solved on a structured grid and the immersed boundary method accounts for the complex geometry of the random packing and the cylindrical walls of the reactor. The increase of the tortuosity leads to increase of the pressure drop along the reactor and the relation between them is studied as a function of the rise per revolution of the helical surface. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.
