This study investigates the design and execution of an automated attendance tracking system using facial recognition CCTV based. Facial recognition technology and CCTV cameras are integrated in this system to provide a seamless, frictionless way to track and record attendance in real time. In addition to boosting attendance record accuracy, the approach reduces the administrative burden associated with using traditional methods. The suggested system is designed to recognise people when they enter or leave a monitored area by leveraging developments in computer vision. It accomplishes this automatically and requires no interaction from humans. Furthermore, the system's use of the Internet of Things makes it flexible and scalable to a variety of business situations, including offices, schools, and large-scale events. This is made feasible via real-time data synchronising and reporting. © 2025 IEEE.

This paper presents a smart walker designed to address mobility issues for individuals with various impairments. The prototype comes with autonomous and manual navigation options;it uses an NVIDIA Jetson Orin Nano with ROS 2 Humble, integrates sensors such as the Intel RealSense D455 camera for depth data and an MPU6050 IMU for orientation, and it is equipped with person-tracking algorithms for autonomous navigation, with face recognition to maintain focus on the target user. Commands are communicated between the Jetson Nano and Arduino Mega 2560, which controls motor functions and the mecanum wheels. The forward-looking aspect is that the prototype retrofits standard walkers for easier commercialisation and replication. The design addresses the need for dynamic obstacle detection, basic fall prevention, as well as return-to-user autonomous navigation - all of which are necessary for user independence and safety in various environments. © 2024 IEEE.

Addressing Imbalance in Health Datasets: A New Method NR-Clustering SMOTE and Distance Metric Modification

An imbalanced dataset often challenges machine learning, particularly classification methods. Underrepresented minority classes can result in biased and inaccurate models. The Synthetic Minority Over-Sampling Technique (SMOTE) was developed to address the problem of imbalanced data. Over time, several weaknesses of the SMOTE method have been identified in generating synthetic minority class data, such as overlapping, noise, and small disjuncts. However, these studies generally focus on only one of SMOTE’s weaknesses: noise or overlapping. Therefore, this study addresses both issues simultaneously by tackling noise and overlapping in SMOTE-generated data. This study proposes a combined approach of filtering, clustering, and distance modification to reduce noise and overlapping produced by SMOTE. Filtering removes minority class data (noise) located in majority class regions, with the k-nn method applied for filtering. The use of Noise Reduction (NR), which removes data that is considered noise before applying SMOTE, has a positive impact in overcoming data imbalance. Clustering establishes decision boundaries by partitioning data into clusters, allowing SMOTE with modified distance metrics to generate minority class data within each cluster. This SMOTE clustering and distance modification approach aims to minimize overlap in synthetic minority data that could introduce noise. The proposed method is called “NR-Clustering SMOTE,” which has several stages in balancing data: (1) filtering by removing minority classes close to majority classes (data noise) using the k-nn method;(2) clustering data using K-means aims to establish decision boundaries by partitioning data into several clusters;(3) applying SMOTE oversampling with Manhattan distance within each cluster. The quality of air and water is essential for human health, environmental sustainability, and ecosystem balance. However, pollution from industrial activities, urbanization, and agricultural practices has made effective environmental monitoring a global priority. Traditional monitoring methods, which rely on manual sampling and laboratory analysis, are often time-consuming and lack real-time capabilities. This paper presents a Smart Environmental Monitoring (SEM) system leveraging IoT and sensor technology to monitor air and water quality in real time using two key sensors: the MQ135 for Air Quality Index (AQI) and the pH sensor for Water Quality Index (WQI). By focusing on these two critical parameters, the SEM system offers a streamlined yet robust solution for assessing environmental quality. The system collects data continuously, transmits it to a cloud platform for processing, and employs machine learning algorithms to forecast future pollution trends. A user-friendly dashboard displays real-time AQI and WQI levels, historical trends, and predictive insights, empowering users to respond proactively to environmental risks. Deployment results demonstrate the SEM system's capability in detecting pollution patterns, identifying high-risk areas, and predicting pollution spikes during peak traffic and in industrial zones. Comparative analysis with traditional monitoring highlights the SEM system's superior accuracy, scalability, and predictive abilities. Although the SEM system has higher initial setup costs, its operational efficiency and long-term benefits in mitigating environmental risks make it a sustainable choice for public health and environmental management. © 2025 IEEE.

Assessment remains a cornerstone of the educational process, with standardized testing often serving as a primary method for evaluating learning. However, as pedagogical approaches continue to evolve, Outcome-Based Assessment (OBA) has gained prominence as a more comprehensive model that aligns learning outcomes with teaching strategies. This paper explores the significance of OBA, grounded in frameworks of domain learning, and highlights its global adoption as a measure of institutional quality. By focusing on measurable learning outcomes across cognitive domains, OBA enhances student engagement, critical thinking, and skill development. Extending this theoretical foundation, the paper presents an Outcome Based Assessment System (OBAS) developed to facilitate the practical implementation of OBA. OBAS provides a structured framework that links program learning outcomes to course learning outcomes, integrating considerations of learning domains and difficulty levels. By supporting the creation of standardized and authentic OBA assessments, this application empowers educators and institutions to uphold educational quality, foster accountability, and align assessments with targeted learning objectives. © 2025 IEEE.

The creation of the 3D rendering model involves the prediction of an accurate depth map for the input images.A proposed approach of a modified semi-global block matching algorithm with variable window size and the gradient assessment of objects predicts the depth map.3D modeling and view synthesis algorithms could effectively handle the obtained disparity *** work uses the consistency check method to find an accurate depth map for identifying occluded *** prediction of the disparity map by semi-global block matching has used the benchmark dataset of Middlebury stereo for *** improved depth map quality within a reasonable process-ing time outperforms the other existing depth map prediction *** experimental results have shown that the proposed depth map predictioncould identify the inter-object boundaryeven with the presence ofocclusion with less detection error and *** observed that the Middlebury stereo dataset has very few images with occluded objects,which made the attainment of gain *** this gain,we have created our dataset with occlu-sion using the structured lighting *** proposed regularization term as an optimization process in the graph cut algorithm handles occlusion for different smoothing *** experimented results demonstrated that our dataset had outperformed the Tsukuba dataset regarding the percentage of occluded pixels.

Internet of Things (IoT) devices are typically powered by small-sized batteries with limited energy storage capacity, requiring regular replacement or recharging. To reduce costs and maintain connectivity in IoT networks, energy harvesting technologies are regarded as a promising solution. Notably, due to its robust analytical and generative capabilities, generative artificial intelligence (GenAl) has demonstrated significant potential in optimizing energy harvesting networks. Therefore, we discuss key applications of GenAl in improving energy harvesting IoT networks in this article. Specifically, we first review the key technologies of GenAI and the architecture of energy harvesting IoT networks. Then, we show how GenAI can address different problems to improve the performance of the energy harvesting IoT networks. Subsequently, we present a case study of unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV)-enabled data col-lection and energy transfer. The case study shows distinctively the necessity of energy harvesting technology and verify the effectiveness of GenAI-based methods. Finally, we discuss some import-ant open directions. © 2018 IEEE.

Optimised EfficientNet for multi-class skin cancer diagnosis: integrating chaotic grey wolf algorithms

The detection of skin cancer holds paramount importance worldwide due to its impact on global health. While deep convolutional neural networks (DCNNs) have shown potential in this domain, current approaches often struggle with fine-grained variability in skin lesion features, imbalanced datasets and inadequate augmentation. The objectives of our study encompass building a model that not only enhances accuracy but also reduces training time and cost, improves dimensionality reduction during classification and segmentation, and is evaluated on larger datasets for robustness. We enhance the learning process using an improved nature-inspired optimisation algorithm tailored specifically for skin cancer classification tasks. This algorithm optimises model parameters to maximise classification accuracy while minimising computational overhead. Our proposed architecture leverages a gold standard dermatological image dataset meticulously curated and validated by experts. This dataset spans eight distinct classes, including actinic keratosis, basal cell carcinoma, melanoma, nevus, and others, ensuring a diverse representation of skin conditions. The balanced class distribution in the training and test sets enables fair evaluation and robustness assessment of our deep learning models. The developed algorithm showcases novelty in its approach, contributing to advancements in early skin cancer detection technologies. This study introduces an optimised deep learning model designed for the early detection of skin cancer, achieving a notable accuracy of 97.48%. Our study aims to contribute significantly to the medical field by providing a reliable and efficient tool for dermatologists and healthcare practitioners to assist in diagnosing skin conditions accurately and promptly, ultimately improving patient outcomes and healthcare efficiency. © (2025), (Indian Academy of sciences).
