Estimation of cutting temperature using machine learning based on signal information received from power analyzer in vortex machining conditions

Cutting temperature directly determines power consumption by influencing tool wear and workpiece quality. Especially for workpieces that cause high heat generation due to low thermal conductivity coefficients, such as Ti6Al4V, it is a challenge to control and determine the cooling method and cutting parameters accordingly. Pre-process modeling and estimation of the cutting temperature due to the cutting variables is necessary for effective process planning and machining efficiency. In this study, it is aimed to use various signal information received from the power analyzer as input features to effectively model and estimate by using the machine learning method the cutting temperature occurring in the turning using various cooling environments of Ti6Al4V workpieces. The features extracted from the four signal information were used both individually and by obtaining hybrid signal features where all the features are combined. While individual signals were used directly in establishing the models, hybrid signals were ranked using the feature ranking method according to six different importance levels. As a result of the study, it was determined that the cutting temperature could be predicted with high success by modeling it according to the features extracted from the signal information obtained from the power analyzer. © 2025 The Society of Manufacturing Engineers

The possibility of establishing a novel technique for reliably accessing glycemic information in a non-invasive, easy to implement method at THz frequencies via the fingernail bed is investigated. The nail bed's major content is blood at its various glucose levels and is also partially protected from environmental conditions by the nail plate, making it a desirable platform for non-invasive glucose sensing. The study is based on a 2D computational electromagnetics (EM) model of the layered fingernail in COMSOL Multiphysics, where the required dielectric function (i.e. permittivity and conductivity) of the fingernail plate is measured using THz-Time-Domain-Spectroscopy (THz-TDS), and the glucose-dependend dielectric functions of the fingernail bed are taken from available experimental data in the literature. From this data a material model using a multipole Cole-Cole model is established for both, the nail plate and the nail bed, where the glucose content in the latter is varied from 3.0-19.0 mmol/l. A numerical analysis of the THz reflectometry at the fingernail in the frequency range of 0.1-2.0 THz revealed that the reflectance spectra are sensitive to the glucose content in the nail bed proving that accurate glucose sensing via the fingernail bed may become feasible around 0.2-0.4 THz. © 2023 the author(s), published by Walter de Gruyter Berlin/Boston.

The rapid development of IoT in the last few decades must also be accompanied by technological advances. One of them is wireless communication technology, which is applied to send and receive data on IoT devices. Among these technologies, LoRa has excellent potential as a solution for low-power and low-cost reliability. However, since LoRa is a new technology, it has not been widely applied and there is a lack of user experience with the application of the technology. Therefore, The purpose of this study was to ascertain whether LoraID will be accepted and used as an attendance system in an IT firm utilizing the UTAUT model. With the aid of the SmartPLS application, 40 questionnaire respondent data in total were analyzed using PLS-SEM. The findings showed that behavioral intention are positively influ-enced by Performance Expectation, performance expectations while facilitating conditions and behavioral intentions positively affect usage intentions, and the result showed that social influence and effort expectations negatively affect behavioral intentions. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper proposes a new hybrid optimization algorithm that combines the grey wolf optimization (GWO) algorithm with rat swarm optimizer (RSO) to improve the exploration and exploitation capabilities of the search space. The proposed algorithm, named GRO, is evaluated using benchmark functions and engineering design problems. The GRO algorithm leverages the social hierarchy and hunting strategies of wolf packs and incorporates the swarm intelligence of rats and the diversity-enhancing effects of GWO to guide the search process. Experimental results demonstrate that the GRO algorithm outperforms existing state-of-the-art optimization algorithms in terms of convergence speed, accuracy, and robustness for most benchmark functions. The hybrid algorithm’s ability to balance exploration and exploitation is shown to be superior to other metaheuristic algorithms. The algorithm is further validated by solving two well-known engineering design problems, where it demonstrates its efficacy in solving practical constrained problems. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

Batteries raise issues in electric vehicles because of their limited range and lifespan. They can however be extended by implementing smart, accurate and computationally inexpensive control algorithms. Herein, a lithium-ion battery cell is modelled with an equivalent circuit model which is complex enough to track the output voltage of the cell while remaining simple enough to be used in a control algorithm. This work presents the identification procedure of equivalent circuit model parameters for a lithium-ion battery cell by applying high currents to the cell. Consequently, high accuracy was achieved for the whole range of possible currents. The parameters were identified on a dataset with high currents, while the model was evaluated on a different dataset acquired from a real electric vehicle usage data. Metrics from both the identification and the validation datasets are similar meaning that the model generalises well. © 2023 IEEE.

This study addresses the critical aspect of data collection within Wireless Sensor Networks (WSNs), which consist of autonomous, compact sensor devices deployed to monitor environmental conditions. These networks have limited processing capacity, storage, short-range communication capabilities, and constrained battery power. A primary challenge in WSN s revolves around data gathering, particularly when employing static sinks, leading to premature energy depletion in nodes near these sinks. Integrating mobile collectors introduces the potential for energy conservation by shortening data routes. This article introduces three distinct algorithms for optimizing data collection in WSN s. Our approach involves an in-depth analysis of diverse strategies to mitigate packet collisions and facilitate the retransmission of lost packets. Our findings underscore the considerable impact that packet collisions can exert on the overall network performance during data gathering within wireless sensor networks. Through empirical exploration and analysis, we highlight the significance of these algorithms in enhancing the efficiency, energy conservation, and reliability of data collection processes within WSNs. This research sheds light on these algorithms' vital role in addressing the pressing challenges of data gathering and network performance optimization in wireless sensor networks. © 2024 IEEE.
