Recently, a lot of emphasis has been placed on Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) algorithms in medicine and the healthcare industry. Cardiovascular disease (CVD), is one of the most common causes of death globally, and Electrocardiogram (ECG) is the most widely used diagnostic tool to investigate this disease. However, the analysis of ECG signals is a very difficult process. Therefore, in this work, automated classification of ECG data into five different arrhythmia classes is proposed, based on MIT-BIH dataset. Convolutional Neural Network (CNN) and Long Short-Term Memory (LSTM) Deep Learning (DL) models were used. The black-box nature of these complex models imposes the need to explain their outcomes. Hence, both Permutation Feature Importance (PFI) with Gradient-Weighted Class Activation Maps (Grad-CAM) interpretability techniques were investigated. Using the K-Fold cross-validation method, the models achieved an accuracy of 97.1% and 98.5% for CNN and LSTM, respectively. © 2022 IEEE.

Coffee is one of the plantation crops that has long been a cultivated plant in Indonesia. The classification of coffee fruit maturity manually still has several weaknesses and requires a long process, has low accuracy and is inconsistent, this is because the determination is made subjectively by coffee farmers. As for the classification of coffee fruit maturity levels automatically, it can be faster with objective determination, therefore the use of image processing is relatively easier, faster, and based on a quantified descriptive assessment to determine coffee maturity. Image Processing is a method used to process or manipulate images in 2-dimensional form. In the classification process, there are many methods used to obtain classification of objects based on training data. One of the algorithms used for the classification process is K-Nearest Neighbor (KNN). KNN is a classification technique for objects based on training data that is the closest or has similar characteristics to the object. KNN includes supervised learning algorithms, where the results of the new query instance are classified based on the majority of the categories in K-Nearest Neighbors (K-NN). The finding indicated that class classification of ripe and unripe were 88,24 % and 100% respectively with 93,33% accuracy level. © 2023 IEEE.

A substitution box(S-Box)is a crucial component of contemporary cryptosystems that provide data protection in block *** the moment,chaotic maps are being created and extensively used to generate these SBoxes as a chaotic map assists in providing disorder and resistance to combat cryptanalytical *** this paper,the construction of a dynamic S-Box using a cipher key is proposed using a novel chaotic map and an innovative tweaking *** projected chaotic map and the proposed tweak approach are presented for the first time and the use of parameters in their workingmakes both of these dynamic in *** tweak approach employs cubic polynomials while permuting the values of an initial S-Box to enhance its cryptographic *** of the parameters are provided using the cipher key and a small variation in values of these parameters results in a completely different unique *** analysis and exploration confirmed that the projected chaoticmap exhibits a significant amount of chaotic *** security assessment in terms of bijectivity,nonlinearity,bits independence,strict avalanche,linear approximation probability,and differential probability criteria are utilized to critically investigate the effectiveness of the proposed S-Box against several *** proposed S-Box’s cryptographic performance is comparable to those of recently projected S-Boxes for its adaption in real-world security *** comparative scrutiny pacifies the genuine potential of the proposed S-Box in terms of its applicability for data security.

As autonomous vehicles continue to revolutionize transportation, addressing challenges posed by adverse weather conditions, particularly during winter, becomes paramount for ensuring safe and efficient operations. One of the most important aspects of a road safety inspection during adverse weather is when a limited lane width can reduce the capacity of the road and raise the risk of serious accidents involving autonomous vehicles. In this research, a method for improving driving challenges on roads in winter conditions, with a model that segments and estimates the width of the road from the perspectives of Uncrewed aerial vehicles and autonomous vehicles. The proposed approach in this article is needed to empower selfdriving cars with up-to-date and accurate insights, enhancing their adaptability and decision-making capabilities in winter landscapes.

Landslides are one of the major global geohazards, contributing to significant economic and social losses to private and public properties. In this paper, we deployed a Brillouin optical time-domain analysis (BOTDA) interrogator to measure soil movement and identify the soil movement location. The method was analyzed experimentally, detecting the soil movement location at around 935 m to 955 m of fiber. In addition, the system's sensitivity was analyzed for soil movement within the displacement range of 0 mm to 4 0 mm, with increments of 5 mm. The experimental result shows that the frequency shift of 1.66 MHz corresponds to 1 mm, and the tensile strain of 31.4 μϵ corresponds to 1 mm. Moreover, the high reliability of measurement accuracy, demonstrated by an average of nine measurements with an error of 2.76 MHz, further supports the effectiveness of the system for detecting and monitoring soil movement in real-world applications. © 2024 IEEE.

Water-harvesting polymer coatings for plant leaves

Climate change-induced water scarcity threatens global plant life and agricultural productivity. Here, we present a novel atmospheric water harvesting (AWH) coating designed to alleviate heat and dry stress potentially. This polymer coating utilizes block copolymers carrying catechol-anchoring groups, specifically poly(dopamine methacrylamide) (PDOMA), to adhere to plant leaves. As a hydrophilic block, either poly((oligoethylene glycol) methacrylate) (POEGMA) or the thermoresponsive block poly(N-isopropylacrylamide) (PNIPAM) was used, which can adsorb water from the air during cooler periods in its hydrophilic state. As the temperature increases above the lower critical solution temperature (LCST) of PNIPAM, the polymer transitions to a hydrophobic state, releasing the captured water to the leaf surface. We synthesized PNIPAM-b-PDOMA copolymers via RAFT polymerization and confirmed their composition (IR, ¹H NMR and ¹H DOSY NMR spectroscopy) with a cloud point temperature of 33 ± 1 °C. The coatings were applied to model substrates (SiO₂, polyethylene) and corn leaves. Compared to uncoated controls, coated substrates demonstrated a substantial increase in water uptake from humid air, absorbing up to 50 wt% of the coating's weight. The coating's adherence and thermoresponsive behavior were confirmed on corn leaves through contact angle measurements, showing a shift from hydrophilic (29 ± 3°) below the LCST to hydrophobic (80 ± 2°) above the LCST, closer to the native, hydrophobic leaf (110 ± 10°). Crucially, photosynthesis induction experiments revealed that the coating did not negatively impact the plant's natural photosynthetic processes. This study establishes a promising copolymer platform for developing AWH coatings to support plants in the face of increasing drought conditions. © 2025 RSC.

Energy justice focuses on moral and social aspects of energy systems. Previous studies discuss how existing socio-economic inequalities can increase in energy systems, if issues about fairness are not considered in their design. Most of the existing literature studies energy justice on a conceptual level. This paper takes a more practical approach, focusing on how to operationalize energy justice into quantifiable metrics. The energy transition consist of many large and small interventions to the energy system with the goal of providing a sustainable energy system. Energy justice metrics can measure the difference in energy justice caused by an intervention in the energy system, indicating if an intervention makes energy justice better or worse. This paper thus introduces new energy justice metrics and illustrates their use on a specific intervention in the context of smart grid. The proposed intervention empowers electricity consumers to influence the environmental impact of the electricity they consume, by setting their preferences on their electricity demand up front. © 2024, The Authors. In the era of informatics, the effectiveness of machine learning models is compromised due to the challenge of dimensionality in the data. The presence of redundant and irrelevant features significantly increases computational complexity, posing a central obstacle in the extraction of valuable insights from the extensive dataset. Any machine learning model’s performance suffers because of the issue of the plague of dimensionality. To improve the classifier’s performance, feature selection is applied beforehand on applying the machine learning model. Feature selection is accomplished using Enhanced Binary Particle Swarm Optimization (E-BPSO) with the aid of boosting the performance of the K-Nearest Neighbor (K-NN) classifier and is experimented on benchmarking real-world datasets. The conventional BPSO suffers from the problem of exploration which leads to premature convergence. In order to overcome the drawbacks of conventional BPSO, E-BPSO is proposed. The enhancement is made by integrating the self-adaptive velocity to drive the particle with the aid to balance exploration and exploitation. The performance of the proposed E-BPSO is evaluated against the traditional binary particle swarm optimization algorithm and genetic algorithm, considering metrics like accuracy, fitness, root mean square error, and dimensionality reduction ratio. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

Experimental evaluation of MU-MIMO in TDD environment for 5G NR using exploiting channel reciprocity

5G New Radio (NR) operates in two frequency ranges viz. Frequency Range 1 (sub-6 GHz band) and Frequency Range 2 (millimeter wave communication). It utilizes Time Division Duplex (TDD) communication, allowing the same frequency band for uplink and downlink transmission using sounding reference signals. These signals help estimate channel conditions for scheduling downlink traffic. Multi-User Multiple Input Multiple Output (MU-MIMO) technology enables simultaneous data transmission to multiple users using multiple antennas. This study examines MU-MIMO performance in TDD by analyzing variables like radio conditions, modulation schemes, code rates, precoding algorithms, and sub-carrier spacing. Simulation results show that Zero Forcing (ZF) precoding outperforms Block Diagonalization (BD) and Regularized Zero Forcing (RZF) in good radio conditions. However, in bad radio conditions, RZF performs better than ZF. Choosing higher code rates in 16 and 64-QAM and lower code rates in 256-QAM from the MCS table improves throughput. This indicates that MCS and user selection are crucial for higher throughput in TDD-based MU-MIMO for 5G NR. © Bharati Vidyapeeth's Institute of Computer Applications and Management 2024.
