Transaction transmission model for blockchain channels based on non-cooperative games

In blockchain networks, transactions can be transmitted through channels. The existing transmission methods depend on their routing information. If a node randomly chooses a channel to transmit a transaction, the transmission may be aborted due to insufficient funds(also called balance) or a low transmission rate. To increase the success rate and reduce transmission delay across all transactions, this work proposes a transaction transmission model for blockchain channels based on non-cooperative game *** balance, channel states, and transmission probability are fully considered. This work then presents an optimized channel transaction transmission algorithm. First, channel balances are analyzed and suitable channels are selected if their balance is sufficient. Second, a Nash equilibrium point is found by using an iterative sub-gradient method and its related channels are then used to transmit transactions. The proposed method is compared with two state-of-the-art approaches: Silent Whispers and Speedy Murmurs. Experimental results show that the proposed method improves transmission success rate, reduces transmission delay,and effectively decreases transmission overhead in comparison with its two competitive peers.

Deploying Unmanned Aerial Vehicles (UAVs) as aerial base stations enhances the coverage and performance of communication networks in Vehicular Edge Computing (VEC) scenarios. However, due to the limited communication range and energy capacity of UAVs, they cannot continuously cover entire areas or sustain long flights. Therefore, achieving full communication coverage of a target area with a minimal number of UAVs and efficient task offloading remains a significant challenge. To address this problem, the UAV-assisted Two-stage Intelligent Collaboration (UTIC) method is proposed in this paper to tackle the joint position optimization and task scheduling issue. Firstly, a UAV-assisted Two-stage Task Scheduling (UTTS) system model is designed to optimize the allocation process. Secondly, an Enhanced Particle Swarm Optimization (E-PSO) algorithm is designed to determine the optimal positions of UAVs, ensuring complete coverage of all mobile vehicles (MVs) with the minimum number of UAVs. Thirdly, Deep Deterministic Policy Gradient (DDPG) method is employed to find the optimal scheduling decisions for MVs, considering energy consumption, delay, and task priorities. Simulation results demonstrate that the proposed UTIC method can achieve nearly 20% reduction in UAV deployment and outperform three other classical reinforcement learning (RL) algorithms in terms of reducing system cost. © 2025 IEEE.

This paper considers an event-triggered LQ control of a hung-type ball-and-beam (HTBB) system via wireless communication. In this HTBB system, the beam angle is controlled by winding the wire. Unfortunately, due to gravity, the beam’s angular acceleration cannot be greater than its free-fall acceleration. In addition, discontinuous changes in the beam angle sometimes cause centrifugal force. To solve this problem, we introduce two integrators in the front of the HTBB system. It makes it possible to render the angular acceleration continuous and small in the sense of LQ optimization. Although the event-triggering mechanism (ETM) reduces the number of communications, it may cause unnecessary updates of the control input. Therefore, this paper proposes a method to avoid this issue by introducing a dead-zone to the ETM. Several experiments are explored to confirm the effectiveness of the proposed method. © 2025 The Institute of Electrical Engineers of Japan.

Free Volume and Local Dynamics in Modulus-Enhanced Polycarbonate under Addition of Low-Mass Molecules

We investigated the relation between modulus enhancement and reduction of free volume of polycarbonate (PC) by addition of low-mass molecules (LMs) with various sizes and concentrations. The modulus enhancement of PC, which is called "antiplasticization", is due to the restriction of local chain motion of PC by the LM additives. For PC and antiplasticized PC, the free volume was evaluated at various temperatures below the glass transition temperature through positron annihilation lifetime spectroscopy. The results showed that the free volume decreased in the presence of LMs at all the temperatures in the glassy region, but the free volume of antiplasticized PC became close to that of pure PC at the rotational relaxation temperature for LMs. This result indicated that the LM dynamics strongly affected the PC free volume, which determined the degree of modulus enhancement. Furthermore, storage moduli of PC blends were compared for various LMs at different concentrations. The comparison showed a universal relation between the PC storage modulus at 25 °C and the LM molar concentration. This result suggests that each LM restricts the local motion of PC to the same degree independently of the molecular size. © 2023 Society of Materials science Japan. All rights reserved.

Recently, microbial batteries have attracted attention as a new power generation method. A microbial battery obtains power from the action of power-generating bacteria and generates power without electrochemical reactions or electrical conversion using solar or wind energy. Since it obtains electricity from the soil, it generates electricity regardless of the weather and does not emit harmful substances. However, currently available microbial batteries generate only a small amount of electric energy, and there are many problems in the operation of mobile batteries and small sensors. In addition, although research on power-generating bacteria and the improvement of electrode materials are progressing, there are currently few reports that combine electrodes and electricity-generating bacteria as microbial batteries. In this study, we produced a microbial battery to charge smartphones, laptop computers, and electric vehicles by extracting power from the soil under circumstances where it is difficult to secure a power source such as a disaster. Therefore, after confirming that it is possible to generate electricity with familiar soil, we explored the conditions for the improvement of power generation efficiency. In particular, we modified the electrodes so that power-generating bacteria could efficiently decompose organic molecules in soil and convert them into electrical energy. To evaluate the performance of the microbial battery, we applied the diffusion equation used to determine the reaction rate of lithium-ion batteries. © 2023 IEEE.

Nonnegative matrix factorization (NMF) is a method of factorizing a nonnegative matrix into two nonnegative matrices. Multichannel NMF (MNMF), which utilizes spatial information by extending this to multiple channels and performs sound source separation with high accuracy, has been proposed in the acoustic field. However, separating into two(in previous and current experiments) sound sources for MNMF took a long time. So, we considered various methods for the time taken to separate was reduced. Among them, the method for predicting frequency by deep neural network proved that it took a shorter time to separate, and the separation performance was higher. Although, we could not reduce the time for sound source separation, which we hoped. We propose a method of time direction division to improve the performance of sound source separation. The performance and time for sound source separation are evaluated by the improvement of software-defined radio, and the effectiveness of the proposed method is confirmed. © 2023 IEEE.

In general, the acoustic effective length of the open end of an air column is longer than its geometric length. Here, the effective increment of the geometric length of an air column is called the open-end correction length, which is an acoustically crucial issue. The purpose of this study is to experimentally clarify the open-end correction length for a slit shape with a narrow clearance. For this reason, the sound absorption coefficient was measured using a sample in which the neck of the Helmholtz resonator was shaped as a slit with a narrow clearance. Next, the open-end correction length (i.e., mass end correction length and resistive end correction length) was calculated backward by comparing the experimental and theoretical sound absorption curves. The resistive end correction increased as the slit width became narrower within the range of 0.5 mm or less for both the center slit and the slit near the wall, indicating a significant discrepancy between the theoretical equation and the estimated value. For the mass end correction, in the case the center slit, the estimated value is close to the theoretical value of in the slit width range from 0.3 mm to 1.0 mm. The results of this study may be useful in eliminating discrepancies in correction values for open-end correction in slits with narrow clearance. © 2022 Institute of Noise Control engineering.

Kernel memory corruption attacks against operating systems exploit kernel vulnerabilities to overwrite kernel data. Kernel address space layout randomization makes it difficult to identify kernel data by randomizing their virtual address space. Control flow integrity (CFI) prevents unauthorized kernel code execution by verifying kernel function calls. However, these countermeasures do not prohibit writing to kernel data. If the virtual address of privileged information is specified and CFI is circumvented, the privileged information can be modified by a kernel memory corruption attack. In this paper, we propose a restricted kernel page mechanism (RKPM) to mitigate kernel memory corruption attacks by introducing restricted kernel pages to protect the kernel data specified in the kernel. The RKPM focuses on the fact that kernel memory corruption attacks attempt to read the virtual addresses around the privileged information. The RKPM adopts page table mapping handling and a memory protection key to control the read and write restrictions of the restricted kernel pages. This allows us to mitigate kernel memory corruption attacks by capturing reads to the restricted kernel page before the privileged information is overwritten. As an evaluation of the RKPM, we confirmed that it can mitigate privilege escalation attacks on the latest Linux kernel. We also measured that there was a certain overhead in the kernel performance. This study enhances kernel security by mitigating privilege escalation attacks through the use of software or hardware based restricted kernel pages. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

This study proposes a novel approach for the analysis of high-dimensional time series data utilizing a linear shift-variant transform. Central to the methodology is the Locally-Structured Unitary Network (LSUN), a self-supervised learning transform proficient in capturing the underlying tangent spaces within high-dimensional datasets. This trait equips LSUN with a distinct advantage over existing techniques such as convolutional dictionary learning, which suffers from decreased interpretability due to the redundant selection of filter kernels. The shift-invariance of convolutional models does not directly correspond to the axes of tangent spaces, a challenge well addressed by LSUN. This study focuses on utilizing LSUN for time series analysis to capture structural variations in sequential frames. To optimize this task, LSUN is utilized with total variation regularization, a method known for its ability to preserve edge information. The effectiveness of the proposed model is demonstrated through a video sequence denoising experiment, illustrating its potential to innovate in areas where the analysis of time-series data is crucial. The findings signal the significant potential for this approach to be extended to targets, such as dynamical system identification, further extending its applicability. © 2023 IEEE.
