We propose a field monitoring system whereby drones search for and collect information on a crop field. In the proposed system, field monitoring starts with most of the drones searching for objects. Over time, the drones gradually change their role to collect information on the found objects. As there is no communication infrastructure in the field, communication is achieved through a delay-tolerant networking technology called store-carry-forward routing. In store-carry-forward routing, drones store received messages in a buffer. When drones encounter one another, if a drone has a stored message, it forwards it to the encountered drone. Through simulation experiments, we show that the proposed system searches for objects and collects information efficiently. © 2023 IEEE.

Cookies are considered a fundamental means of web application services for authenticating various Hypertext Transfer Protocol(HTTP)requests andmaintains the states of clients’information over the *** cookies are exploited to carry client patterns observed by a *** client patterns facilitate the particular client’s future visit to the corresponding ***,security and privacy are the primary concerns owing to the value of information over public channels and the storage of client information on the *** protocols have been introduced that maintain HTTP cookies,but many of those fail to achieve the required security,or require a lot of resource *** this article,we have introduced a lightweight Elliptic Curve Cryptographic(ECC)based protocol for authenticating client and server transactions to maintain the privacy and security of HTTP *** proposed protocol uses a secret key embedded within a *** proposed protocol ismore efficient and lightweight than related protocols because of its reduced computation,storage,and communication ***,the analysis presented in this paper confirms that proposed protocol resists various known attacks.

Cost-effective CO_(2) adsorbents are gaining increasing attention as viable solutions for mitigating climate *** this study,composites were synthesized by electrochemically combining the post-gasification residue of Macadamia nut shell with copper benzene-1,3,5-tricarboxylate(CuBTC).Among the different composites synthesized,the ratio of 1:1 between biochar and CuBTC(B 1:1)demonstrated the highest CO_(2) adsorption *** controlled laboratory conditions(0℃,1 bar,without the influence of ambient moisture or CO_(2) diffusion limitations),B 1:1 achieved a CO_(2) adsorption capacity of 9.8 mmol/g,while under industrial-like conditions(25℃,1 bar,taking into account the impact of ambient moisture and CO_(2) diffusion limitations within a bed of adsorbent),it reached 6.2 mmol/*** values surpassed those reported for various advanced CO_(2) adsorbents investigated in previous *** superior performance of the B 1:1 composite can be attributed to the optimization of the number of active sites,porosity,and the preservation of the full physical and chemical surface properties of both ***,the composite exhibited a notable CO_(2)/N_(2) selectivity and improved stability under moisture *** favorable characteristics make B 1:1 a promising candidate for industrial applications.

Many caregivers experienced lower back injuries by patient transfer motion. Patient transfer motion causes lumbar load since this task requires lifting and twisting. For this problem, previous studies explored the suitable posture such as trunk angle to reduce lumbar load in patient transfer motion. However, it is difficult to adjust these postures for caregivers because these postures should be dynamically adjusted in patient transfer motion. Thus, we focus on initial foot placement to reduce lumbar load, because initial foot placement is adjustable before starting transfer. Therefore, the objective of this study is to find suitable initial foot placement for patient transfer motion. In the experiment, 10 healthy males performed simulated patient transfer motion with anteroposterior (AP) and mediolateral (ML) foot placement. Erector spinae muscle activity was measured during patient transfer by the surface electromyography (sEMG). Furthermore, compressive force of L4-L5 was calculated by the computational musculoskeletal simulator. The results showed that AP foot placement provided smaller compressive force of L4-L5 than ML. On the other hand, there was no significant difference for erector spinae muscle activity between AP and ML foot placement. These findings will contribute to determining suitable initial posture to prevent lower back injuries in patient transfer motion. © 2023 IEEE.

Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs) have revolutionized the field of computer vision, offering significant advancements in image and video recognition, classification, and segmentation tasks. Leveraging hierarchical pattern recognition capabilities, CNNs have demonstrated superior performance over traditional machine learning methods. One particularly critical application of CNNs is in motion direction detection, which is essential for enhancing security in surveillance systems, ensuring safe navigation in autonomous vehicles, and providing valuable insights in sports analytics. In this study, our primary goal was to investigate how different types of input data impact the accuracy of motion direction detection. We applied five distinct preprocessing methods to test the effect of input data on accuracy. Furthermore, we conducted experiments in various object and background scenarios to evaluate adaptability of simple 4-layer CNN, EfficientNetBO and ResNet50 in detecting motion direction. Finally, we tested the noise resistance of these three models. The results indicate that CNNs are capable of extracting the macroscopic motion direction of objects in images. Our study highlights the potential of CNN-based models for efficient and effective motion direction detection. © 2024 IEEE.

Recently, 3D LiDAR has emerged as a promising technology in the field of gait-based person identification, serving as an alternative to traditional RGB cameras due to its robustness under varying lighting conditions and its ability to capture 3D geometric information. However, long capture distances or the use of low-cost LiDAR sensors often result in sparse human point clouds, leading to a significant decline in identification performance. To address these challenges, we propose a sparse-to-dense upsampling model for pedestrian point clouds in gait recognition using 3D LiDAR, named LidarGSU, which is designed to enhance the generalization capability of existing identification models. Our method utilizes diffusion probabilistic models (DPMs), which have shown high fidelity in generative tasks such as image completion. In this work, we leverage DPMs on sparse sequential pedestrian point clouds as conditional masks in a video-to-video translation approach, applied in an inpainting manner. We conducted extensive experiments on the SUSTeck1K dataset to evaluate the generative quality and recognition performance of the proposed method. Furthermore, we demonstrate the applicability of our upsampling model using a real-world dataset, captured with a low-resolution sensor across varying measurement distances. © 2025 IEEE.

Autonomous-driving systems require real-time processing for safety. Detecting the deadline miss (disabling to execute the process until the designated time) of autonomous-driving software is essential for executing real-time processing. We proposed the application of a dynamic message tracking system (Topic-tracking Infrastructure for Dynamic Message Latency and Deadline Evaluator) to software based on Robot Operating System (ROS) 2, e.g., Autoware (autonomous-driving software). TILDE transmits MessageTrackingTag with ROS 2 messages to trace and dynamically specify the data flow of the messages. In particular, MessageTrackingTag contains input and output times at each node with the data flow. The information of the MessageTrackingTag is acquired by a deadline detector to identify the time from the input to output (hereafter latency) of the data flow. The latency is compared to the deadline to detect the occurrence of a deadline miss. In principle, the deadline detector is a package of TILDE for notifying deadline misses. In addition, this paper conducted two evaluations of TILDE. First, we measured the overhead caused by embedding TILDE on ROS 2 nodes through the transmission of a String-type message from one node to another. Second, we measured the deadline miss detection rate using CARET (a latency analysis tool for autonomous-driving systems) to validate the accuracy of the deadline detector in determining deadline misses. © 2023 IEEE.

We propose two modifications to the standard multiplayer battle game-inspired optimizer (MBGO) to simplify its search framework and enhance its performance. Specifically, the first modification changes the original serial two-stage search to a parallel approach, where individuals probabilistically choose to execute one of the stages instead of both. The second modification introduces additional new search strategies for generating diversified offspring individuals in the two stages, while retaining the original search strategies. To evaluate the performance of our proposal, we compared the MBGO combined with two proposed modifications against several classic algorithms using the function collections of CEC2017 and CEC2020. The experimental results demonstrate that the improved MBGO is highly competitive, particularly with increasing dimensionality, where the performance improvement becomes more pronounced. © 2024 IEEE.

Effect of alloy compositions and aging conditions on tensile properties of cold-rolled Al-Mg-Si alloys

Tensile properties have been evaluated for four kinds of Al-Mg-Si base alloys which were cold rolled by 90% and subsequently aged for 1 min, 30 min, 18 h at 170°C. To study the effect of alloy compositions and aging conditions on deformation behavior, fracture surface observations and strain distribution analysis during tensile deformation were performed. Strain distribution in the tensile specimens was evaluated by digital image correlation method. The ductility in the specimens aged for 1 min and 30 min after cold rolling was improved due to increase in both uniform and local elongation. All the specimens showed ductile fracture, while the specimen added with 0.71%Fe showed slightly lower ductility. The addition of copper improved strength without deteriorating ductility. The relation between mechanical properties and microstructure is discussed to obtain basic information required to improve strength and ductility of Al-Mg-Si alloys. © 2023 The Japan Institute of Light Metals.

Fe-based nanocrystalline alloys have high magnetic flux density and low loss. So, in this study, the magnetic domain structure of ball-milled magnetic powders of these nanocrystalline alloys was observed using a Kerr effect microscope. The effect of strain removal heat treatment on the magnetic properties of the powder was also investigated by observing and comparing the magnetic domain structure of the milled powder before and after heat treatment during the preparation process of the nanocrystalline milled powder. Our findings showed that the strain removal heat treatment changed the size and shape of the magnetic domains to a simple structure. In addition, the magnetic wall motion was found to occur quickly, resulting in soft magnetic properties. © 2023 IEEE.
