Exploration rovers made many discoveries in exploration missions of the Moon. In recent years, the small right rovers with wheels are focused on as planetary exploration rovers. The surface of the Moon is covered with the loose soils. On this ground, the wheel typed rovers slip and cannot move forward. Therefore, it is necessary to improve the running performance of the rovers. In this study, bulldozing force and the compaction effect are investigated for improving the running performance of planetary exploration wheel typed rovers with vibration. Normal force, sinkage of the testbed to the ground, and bulldozing force are measured when the wheel typed testbed runs while imparting vibration to the ground. As the experimental result, normal force and sinkage of the testbed are not changed by imparting vibration. Moreover, it is confirmed that the running performance of the testbed is improved when bulldozing force is reduced by imparting vibration to the ground. Therefore, decreasing the bulldozing force is effective for improving running performance of wheel typed rovers with vibration. The findings of this study suggest facilitating further planetary exploration using the rovers with wheels. © 2022 IEEE.

Algorithms of evaluation battery state of charge (SoC) and power consumption should be implemented to electrical drive systems to control parameters of a battery. In the course of the work, the characteristic of discharge of the battery was obtained, the control system for a semiconductor step-up voltage converter for the battery management system (BMS) was developed, and the accuracy of the model was evaluated. A simulation model of the «PWM converter-DC drive» system with the battery was developed. Simulation results were compared with experimental data and conclusions were drawn about the possibility of determining the SoC of the battery. © 2023 IEEE.

Machine learning (ML)-applied sensing systems are widely deployed in real environments in the research and development of wireless sensor networks (WSNs). However, in these systems, the central server must deal with the large amounts of sensing data and high processing costs to execute ML tasks. To deal with these issues, in-network processing methods of ML tasks have been proposed for WSNs. However, their main focus is to decide the division points and allocation strategy of ML tasks, and therefore they do not consider the routing algorithm in distributed environments. This paper proposes an opportunistic division and allocation method of ML tasks in distributed WSN environments that does not rely on a specific path. In the proposed method, each node autonomously makes a forwarding decision based on the remaining computational resource and hop count to distribute the computational load while considering the number of relays. A simulation was performed, and it revealed that the proposed method can appropriately allocate the computational processes of ML tasks and distribute them to WSN nodes. © 2023 IEEE.

In this paper, we propose a prediction system of the effect of electrical defibrillation. In order to develop the proposed system, we firstly analyze from pre-shock (immediately before defibrillation) ECGs (ElectroCardioGrams) by using Gabor Wavelet Transform, Poincaré plot analysis, Spectral entropy, and feature parameters are extracted by those extracted analysis results, we focus on time-transition feature parameter. Next, effective feature parameters are selected based on χ2 -test. Finally, 'Effective' and 'Ineffective' for electrical defibrillation are classified by using SVM (Support Vector Machine) with three kernels (Linear, Gaussian, and Polynomial) and regularization. In this way, we shows the effectiveness of the proposed feature extraction methods and prediction system. © 2024 IEEE.

Traditional recycling processes of LiCoO2rely on destructive decomposition, requiring high-temperature roasting or acid leaching to extract valuable Li and Co, which have significant environmental and economic concerns. Herein, a direct repairing method for degraded LiCoO2using a LiCl–CH4N2O deep eutectic solvent（DES） was established. The DES is not used to dissolve LiCoO2but directly serves as a carrier for the selective replenishment of lithium and cobalt. Replenishment of lithium restores LiCoO2at different states of charge to a capacity of 130 m Ah/g（at 0.1 C rate）, while replenishing the cobalt increases the capacity retention rate of 90% after 100 cycles, which is comparable to pristine LiCoO2. The DES is collected and reused multiple times with a high repair efficiency. This process reduces energy consumption by 37.1% and greenhouse gas emissions by 34.8% compared with the current production process of LiCoO2, demonstrating excellent environmental and economic viability.

In factory networks, various network protocols are used to meet strict requirements for accuracy and latency. The controllers that use these protocols are built with dedicated equipment, making it difficult to mix them with other protocols. Moreover, these controllers often rely on specialized software, complicating the integration of innovative technologies like AI. In this paper, we propose a versatile control system by implementing one of the industrial protocols, EtherCAT, on a general-purpose server. This system can control multiple protocols, allowing new protocols to be added without changing existing equipment. Experiments demonstrated that the system reliably operates multiple devices in a daisy-chain configuration, a characteristic feature of EtherCAT. © 2025 IEEE.

Through Directive 2002/49/EC, the European Union has mandated to its member states to draw strategic noise maps using an environmental noise assessment model and implement action plans to reduce the noise exposure of residents in urban areas. To implement a similar noise policy in Japan, a noise assessment model to draw a noise map needs to be developed first. The ASJ RTN-Models, developed by the Acoustical Society of Japan, are good candidates but their characteristics with comparison to the European assessment models need to be investigated. In the current study, the ASJ models are compared with Harmonoise and CNOSSOS-EU under the configuration of a semi-infinite thick barrier along a straight source road. In a case of point-to-point propagation to the shadow zone, the energy gain by the reflection at the top of the barrier is found to be included in the diffraction attenuation in the ASJ models and CNOSSOS-EU, whereas in the ground attenuation in Harmonoise. The equivalent continuous sound pressure level of the ASJ RTN-Model 2018 is found to be generally 1-2 dB smaller than the other models in the non-shadow zone, whereas 5-10 dB smaller at the shadow zone. © ICA *** rights reserved

To ensure the security of image information and facilitate efficient management in the cloud, the utilization of reversible data hiding in encrypted images (RDHEI) has emerged as pivotal. However, most existing RDHEI schemes suffer from lower security and limited embedding capacity. To tackle these challenges, we propose a reversible data hiding with secret encrypted image sharing and adaptive coding scheme. Specifically, in the encryption phase, we introduce an improved secret sharing (SS) encryption method based on the chinese remainder theorem for polynomials (CRTP). This method not only improves the security of encrypted images but also vacates a larger room for embedding. In the embedding phase, we introduce an adaptive coding embedding approach using XOR preservation (XORP) and huffman coding, which provides high embedding capacity. Experimental results and security analysis demonstrate that our proposed encryption method achieves optimal values in security indicators for encrypted images, such as information entropy, histograms, NPCR and UACI. The proposed embedding method is superior to some state-of-the-art schemes in terms of embedding capacity. Furthermore, in datasets BOSSBase and BOWS2, the average embedding rates of the proposed embedding approach can reach 2.1745 bpp and 2.0656 bpp, respectively. © 2025 IEEE.

The purpose of this study is to investigate the disinfection effect of Near-UV LED light, which is pulsed using PWM control, on Staphylococcus aureus. To evaluate the disinfection effect of Near-UV LED light, three types of Near-UV LEDs with wavelengths of 395 nm, 385 nm, and 365 nm were installed within a sealed space inside an incubator and energized with a forward current of 1000 mA and a forward voltage of 3.6 V, and the disinfection rate under each type of light was assessed. Additionally, the disinfection effect was evaluated when the same three types of Near-UV LEDs were pulsed with a 50% duty cycle. As a result, 100% disinfection was achieved with 365 nm Near-UV LED direct-current irradiation for 120 seconds, and a 93% disinfection rate was obtained with pulsed irradiation for 150 seconds. © 2024 IEEE.

The number of deaths due to heat stroke has been increasing rapidly in recent years, and it is predicted that by 2050 there will be 2.5 times as many deaths as at present. One of the major causes of heat stroke is loss of autonomic nervous system activity. Autonomic nervous system activity is a function of thermoregulation as well as cardiovascular regulation. However, the only index mainly used to control body condition is the cardiovascular index centering on heart rate. In addition, a noncontact, easy-to-use measurement system is needed for daily physical condition management. The purpose of this study was to evaluate autonomic nervous system activity in terms of both cardiovascular and thermoregulatory functions. We also aimed to construct a system that can measure these functions in a noncontact manner. To observe the effects of autonomic nervous system dysfunction more clearly, the subjects were asked to exercise. We focused on cutaneous blood vessels, which are commonly involved in cardiovascular and thermoregulatory functions. For the measurement of skin blood vessels, we used an index called the G/B ratio, which we have been developing for some time. This system uses differences in light absorbance to extract the contraction and dilation characteristics of facial capillaries. As a validation experiment, an exercise task using a bicycle ergometer was performed. The exercise intensity was set at 40% and calculated using the Karvonen method. Two conditions were used: normal sleep (control) and sleep deprivation for more than 24 hours (SD) to create a state of autonomic inactivity. The following parameters were measured: heart rate, blood pressure, peripheral vascular resistance, and cardiac output as cardiovascular indices, and deep body temperature, skin temperature, and facial animation as thermoregulatory indices.
