Strain and Magnetic Field Changes in Vibration of Devices Attached Iron Alloys with Large Magnetostriction

To understand the mechanism of vibration energy harvesting using magnetostrictive Fe-Ga alloys, the dynamic strains at different locations of a U-shaped device during vibration were simulated. In the simulations, the previous results for location-dependent strain in the vibration experiments were fitted with trigonometric functions. The results show that the amplitude and phase of the strain vary with location, and that the electromagnetic force is generated at different locations. Since magnetic induction is thought to occur due to an external magnetic field, the magnetic domain structure near the cube orientation of Fe-Ga alloy single crystals was observed using a Kerr effect microscope. As a result, Bloch magnetic domain structures with different contrasts of brightness and darkness were observed depending on the applied magnetic field. It was shown that striped magnetic domains were dominant when the applied magnetic field was small, while lancet magnetic domains oriented to the magnetic field appeared with transverse straight supplementary domains as a magnetic domain under a saturated magnetic field. The domain patterns in one direction magnetic fields were not necessarily the same as those observed in the opposite direction. This indicates that Fe-Ga alloy single crystals are used as a core for vibrational energy harvesting. Also, the motion of magnetic walls is thought to play an important role in the vibrational properties of the material, and inhomogeneous elastic strain associated with magnetic domains evolves microscopically in single crystals. © 2024 The Iron and Steel Institute of Japan. Tracking a person with an onboard camera is a very difficult and perhaps technically impossible if one camera is used. In this regard, real-life projects use a series of cameras to achieve the task. The advent of camera installed drone technology has made it possible for researchers and designers to resolve the tracking issues of a single or multiple stagnant devices. This paper presents a method that makes it possible for a drone to recognize hand gestures as control mechanism and follow the person who control it. Furthermore, the method assists in drone object detection using an integrated depth camera that provides video capturing. The OpenCV and Tello were used in this project. A stabilized depth video is for use with current person trackers like the OpenCV tracker. The estimated Tello pose deduced from vision to stabilize the depth image by warping it to a virtual-static camera. This method allows the Tello to obtain not only the tracked person's position and orientation but also their full body pose, which can then be used, for instance, to recognize hand gestures and alter the Tello's behavior. This work has a potential of contributing or enhancing cutting-edge applications such as hands-free photography and videography. © 2024 IEEE.

In this paper, we find the correlated mutations of positions among structural proteins of spike, envelop, membrane and nucleocapsid proteins in amino acid sequences of SARS-CoV-2. Here, we adopt the algorithm designed by Shimada et al. (2012) of finding the correlated mutations formulated by joint entropy. In particular, we focus on whether or not the found correlated mutations contains spike protein substitutions in SARS-CoV-2 Delta variant. © 2022 IEEE.

This paper investigates the influence of local lag on the reaction forces in a networked virtual maze system incorporating haptic feedback by experiment. In the experiment, participants move a box from the starting position to the target point by using Raising method with haptic device. We measure the average operation time and the average of average reaction force for three different moving velocities and three distinct local lags. Experimental results reveal that as the moving velocity increases and the local lag becomes higher, the two measures become larger. Thus, we illustrate that there exists a strong relationship among the average operation time, the average of average reaction force, moving velocity, and local lag, through multiple regression analysis. © 2024 IEEE.

Accurate solutions are needed for a variety of computer vision applications, including medical imaging, object detection, and recognition. Such complicated challenges are beyond the capabilities of artificial intelligence and machine learning, which mainly rely on data and algorithms to learn. The path to Deep Learning (DL) is thus paved. Even though deep learning is incredibly effective at solving complex problems, it is invariant, meaning that it ignores the spatial relationship between the features and instead searches for features only. This can cause the model’s performance to suffer. Additionally, because the model is invariant, gathering a large volume of training data is a difficult undertaking. To address this, the Capsule Network (CapsNet), whose performance outperforms Deep Learning techniques, was introduced. Despite its success, applications of CapsNet and working remain a mystery. Thus, the performance of CapsNet across many applications and obstacles is examined in this study together with the predecessors of CapsNet. Additionally, this paper explores the use of Capsule Networks with an attention mechanism (CapsNet-ATM) for predicting potato leaf diseases. The performance of CapsNet-ATM in this crucial agricultural application is thoroughly assessed and contrasted with the well-known models VGG-16 and VGG-19, providing insight into the system’s efficacy and promise as a reliable tool for the detection and prediction of potato leaf disease. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

In this paper, we consider the Hermitian $$\{P, k + 1\}$$ -(anti-)reflexive solutions to the quaternion matrix equation $$AXB+CXD=E$$ and $$AX=E,$$ respectively. We use the complex representation method to obtain the necessary and sufficient conditions for the existence of the Hermitian $$\{P, k +1\}$$ -reflexive solution (resp. Hermitian $$\{P, k +1\}$$ -anti-reflexive solution), respectively, and derive their solutions when the matrix equations have the Hermitian $$\{P, k +1\}$$ -reflexive solution (resp. Hermitian $$\{P, k +1\}$$ -anti-reflexive solution). Finally, two examples are provided to verify the effectiveness of our method.

Hall sensors are used to estimate angular velocities of brushless DC motors based on the signals. However, the estimation performance deteriorates when the motors operate at low speed due to the low resolution of Hall sensors. To address this problem, this paper proposes a method to improve the estimation performance considering the low resolution of Hall sensors. When the Hall sensor signal is not obtained during low-speed rotation, the proposed method, interprets this situation as the amount of motor rotation being lower the resolution;this information is used for estimation. The estimation algorithm is constructed based on a particle filter. Numerical simulation is used to verify the effectiveness of the proposed method. © 2025 The Society of Instrument and Control Engineers.
