An experiment was performed to study head degradation from mechanical stress on spin-stand testing. The degradation of electrical performance was measured by Resistance, Amplitude and Bit Error Rate performance. Mechanical stress was represented by loading and unloading the head under the disk by tilting the stand up or down. Scratching, wearing and weakness ensued from mechanically induce vibration to the head. Results of the test showed, the resistance gradually increased, BER performance degraded and amplitude decreased. Observing the air bearing surface of heads showed wear especially at the transducer area.

The read channel of magnetic recording system is affected by two-dimensional interference channel that is a combination of inter-symbol interference and inter-track interference. Inter-track interference is one of the biggest challenges in the high density magnetic recording systems and it can degrade the performance of the channels. In this work, we compare three variations of log-MAP algorithms for graph-based detectors in two-dimensional interference channels. The simulation results show the performance of the graph-based detector with the full log-MAP and extended log-MAP algorithms achieve the gains of about 0.1 and 0.05 dB at BER = 10 -5 , over the max approximation on bit patterned media recording system with the areal density 2.5 Tbits/in 2 .

Force control is one of the most important schemes in many industrial applications, especially in painting and grasping tasks. In practice, the proper control parameters in force controller is not easy because the performance of entire system does not only depend on the actuator dynamic, but also the environment and grasped object. In addition, several applications need to use the force control system for grasping various types of the object, this results in the dynamic change and poor performance in nature. To deal with this problem, the fast dynamic identification using a pair of input and output data is proposed to identify the plant dynamic of the force control system. The position and force are collected and used for the structured dynamic identification. Predefined clusters determined from several data sets of different objects are evaluated using K-means clustering. As seen in the experimental results, the proposed gripper system can identify the object group correctly.

This paper proposes the preliminary investigation of rate adaptive error correction coding applied to MAC layer of UWB Body Area Network (WBAN). As the reliability of system is very important in patient-critical monitoring, the issue can be improved by appending Error Correction Code (ECC) to communication message. However, such an effort can cause the packet overhead, latency, and more power consumption. To mitigate these disadvantages, the rate adaptive of ECC is proposed. The Reed-Solomon (RS) code designed in GF256 has been employed in this study. It fits well the maximum MAC length which is 255 bytes. In our investigation, several MIT-BIH Arrhythmia databases are chosen as input data to represent the patient monitoring. Considering the physical layer of WBAN standard, Ultra Wideband offers an advantage in term of bandwidth availability. Fading channel is employed to examine code's performance. The code rate and capability of error correction performance is measured in both Bit Error Rate (BER) and Block Error Rate (BLER).

Air bearing surface (ABS) is the part of magnetic read/write head flying height controller. It is very important part in magnetic disk (hard disk drive), defected on ABS lead to crash between read/write head and disk surface, therefore its verifying is necessary. The best way to verify defect on ABS is machine vision. Main problem of machine vision in real world is variation of luminance intensity that affects image acquisition. This research proposes method for detecting defect on ABS which has variance luminance intensity, the Co-Occurrence Matrix is used to avoid the variance intensity of ABS image then feature parameter is defined by four identification features and defected detect by threshold that selected from Euclidean distance of each identification. The experimental results show very low error of defect detection on ABS by Co-Occurrence matrix and their identification feature.

2D barcode can be found largely at product of department store. The general purpose of 2D barcode is to identify product. Process of 2D barcode is run in the assembly production line. Nowadays, the simple 2D barcode can be easily copied. Then, this paper proposes new technique to generate 2D barcode. The technique is multi encryption by chaotic equation that is very difficult to reproduce. In experimental design, 2D barcode can be used only one-time and can be recorded into decoding system to protect repeating. This paper has led to real benefit for Fresh Group company limited in Thailand.

Defect inspection of high voltage electrical equipment regularly reduces the risk of failure of power system. The risk may be due to environmental condition or improper equipment operation. To enhance the ability of the inspection, this paper focuses on the visual inspection system to check the physical properties of electrical devices by applying real-time visual inspection. Experimental results demonstrate the performance of the proposed image processing technique. As results indicated, the proposed technique performs fast and highly accurate inspection.

Currently, energy management technology is one of the most important approaches applied to reduce the energy consumption in both factories and buildings. Analysis and identification of electrical appliances are the crucial techniques which many researchers attempt to develop the effective techniques for identifying the load operation. In this paper, discrete fourier transform is adopted to automatically identify load type by transforming time domain to frequency domain. Simulation results demonstrate the effectiveness and high accuracy of the proposed algorithm.

Nowadays, Wireless Body Area Network (WBAN) has become an interesting area of researchers since it can facilitate medical experts to provide a real-time health monitoring. The increasing of elder population is the main driven factor in implementing the medical intelligent services. Application of intelligent medical care system in the disaster environment is also not even less important. In such a vital application system as well as other large bandwidth requirement system, such as a cardiogram and heartbeat monitoring, the communication needs not only the reliability but also the realtime action. Considering the physical layer of IEEE 802.15.6 standard, Ultra Wideband offers an advantage in term of bandwidth availability. In this paper we propose the preliminary investigation of the application of error control code to MAC layer data. Of its both random and burst error correction capability, Reed-Solomon codes have been considered. In our investigation, several MIT-BIH Arrhythmia databases are chosen as input data. The coding scheme is applied to the 250 byte payload data. RS(250, k) which is the shorten version of RS(255, k) defined in GF(256) with variable code rate are investigated. AWGN channel and fading channels are employed to examine code's performance. © 2013 IEEE.

Force control is widely used in many industrial applications especially in the application that actuator is contacted with environment (contacted object). If environment is changed, the performance of non-adaptive controller may be decreased. The proposed adaptive controller is an online adaptive controller which it does not necessary to identify the plant before controlling because the proposed technique can learn the model from real environment. In addition, bang-bang control is adopted in hybrid fashion to solve the problem of undesired response at learning period which may cause the damage of actuator. The simulation and experimental results show the effectiveness of the proposed technique.
