Generating Temporal Contact Graphs Using Random Walkers

We study human mobility networks through timeseries of contacts between individuals. Our proposed Random Walkers Induced temporal Graph (RWIG) model generates temporal graph sequences based on independent random walkers that traverse an underlying graph in discrete time steps. Co-location of walkers at a given node and time defines an individual-level contact. RWIG is shown to be a realistic model for temporal human contact graphs, which may place RWIG on a same footing as the Erdos–Renyi (ER) and Barabasi–Albert (BA) models for fixed graphs. Moreover, RWIG is analytically feasible: we derive closed form solutions for the probability distribution of contact graphs. © 2013 IEEE.

We developed an information system using an object-oriented programming language and a distributed database (DDB) consisting of multiple interconnected databases across a computer network, managed by a distributed database management system (DDBMS) for easy access. An intelligent system was designed to assess the difficulty level of preliminary exams and select top-performing advanced students using a Neutrosophic Deep Learning Model. The dataset was randomly split into training (80%) and testing (20%) sets, and the model, trained with the Adam optimizer at a 0.001 learning rate over 50 epochs, incorporated early stopping based on validation loss. This system, implemented at a traditional Egyptian university, achieved a 95% accuracy in predicting student dropout. Student behavior, influenced by personal, environmental, and academic factors, is often evaluated subjectively, leading to inconsistent results. Traditional machine learning approaches struggle with the inherent uncertainty in behavioral data. To address this, we combined neutrosophic theory—a mathematical framework that accounts for truth, falsity, and indeterminacy—with deep learning, which excels at learning complex data relationships, to predict student outcomes such as dropout rates. Evaluating the model on student data, including attendance and grades, showed superior accuracy, achieving a determination coefficient of 0.95, demonstrating the approach's potential for identifying at-risk students and enabling targeted interventions. © 2025, University of New Mexico. The manual analysis of job resumes poses specific challenges, including the time-intensive process and the high likelihood of human error, emphasizing the need for automation in content-based recommendations. Recent advancements in deep learning, particularly Convolutional Neural Networks (CNN) for Multi-label Text Classification (MLTC), offer a promising solution for addressing these challenges through artificial intelligence. While CNN is renowned for its robust feature extraction capabilities, it faces specific challenges such as managing high-dimensional data and poor data interpretability. To address these limitations, this study employs the Fuzzy Discernibility Matrix (FDM) feature selection technique to determine the relevance of skills for each job vacancy. FDM assigns weights to the features of each job category and ranks their relevance based on the highest scores, which are then utilized in the MLTC CNN model. The integration of FDM and MLTC CNN serves as the foundation for generating content-based recommendations derived from key features in job resumes. This study produces a content-based job recommendation system that displays the top three job categories, accompanied by explanations of the skills supporting each selected category. These recommendations also consider cosine similarity values between analyzed items and the integrated results of FDM and MLTC CNN. The application of FDM for feature weighting has been proven to enhance multi-label text classification outcomes by providing better insights during the feature selection process. With a recall of 97.26%, precision of 94.81%, and accuracy of 98.58%, the MLTC model integrating FDM feature selection and CNN demonstrates robust performance characteristics in content-based job recommendation tasks. © 2025 Slovene Society Informatika. To address the need for summarizing and extracting information efficiently, this paper highlights the growing challenge posed by the increasing number of PDF files. Reading lengthy documents is a tedious and time-consuming task. To save time and quickly comprehend the key points of a PDF, a PDF summarizer tool has been developed to tackle these issues. In today's professional environments, gathering and managing data from documents is critical. This article introduces an innovative solution called DocSum, which automates the process of summarizing extracted data. Powered by *** Core, the DocSum system allows users to upload PDF documents for processing and receive concise summaries in return. The system features a user-friendly interface that encourages interaction and engagement, utilizing AI and machine learning techniques to streamline document handling. Users can request specific summaries, enabling efficient document management workflows. By empowering users to seamlessly interact with vast amounts of information, DocSum enhances productivity and explores new ways to optimize document management. This solution is ideal for professionals seeking to stay informed and manage data effectively, while also keeping track of advancements in document handling technologies across multiple industries. It is not only helpful for professionals but also helpful for students who need quick revision or examinations, teachers to gain brief knowledge on the concepts. © 2025 The Authors. Resilient Reliability/Loss-Based Distribution Network Reconfiguration: A Strategy Against FDI Attacks During State Estimation Procedure

One of the intrinsic properties of Distribution networks, resilience, is the ability to resist, adjust, and recover from extreme, high-impact, low-probability events such as earthquakes, floods, hurricanes, thunderstorms, and cyber and physical attacks. Besides, the uncertainty of the network elements has a significant effect on the operation of the distribution system. Operators require methods and planning strategies to improve grid resilience. Distribution network reconfiguration (DNR) enhances reliability and reduces power losses. This paper proposes an application of DNR as a strategy to get a resilient configuration against false data injection (FDI) attack during state estimation (SE) procedure, minimize power losses, and improve the reliability of the distribution network simultaneously. In this paper, a driving training-based optimization (DTBO) method is exploited for DNR to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed strategy. The proposed strategy is tested on IEEE 33-bus, 69-bus, and 118-bus systems to reduce FDI attack impact on power measurements, power loss, and energy not supplied (ENS). The proposed DNR is evaluated by offline digital time-domain simulations on the distribution test systems in the MATLAB software environment. The simulations and comparisons of the proposed DNR strategy effectively prove the proposed strategy's effectiveness, accuracy, and authenticity. © 2013 IEEE.

Enhancing software quality and reducing testing expenses requires better software fault detection. To guarantee the dependability and usability of software, Software Defect Prediction (SDP) uses machine learning approaches to anticipate and address any problems early in the development cycle. Numerous machine learning techniques, such as Support Vector Machines (SVM), Random Forest (RF), Logistic Regression, Naïve Bayes, Multilayer Perceptron (MLP), Decision Stump, J48, Lazy IBK, and ZeroR, are thoroughly examined in this work. With an emphasis on feature selection as a crucial step in increasing prediction accuracy and lower computing costs, these approaches are assessed for their capacity to detect software flaws precisely. This research study demonstrates how these models may improve fault identification and prevention procedures using historical records from sources such as the PROMISE repository. The study highlights the best practices for machine learning-based software quality assurance, lowering expenses while guaranteeing superior results. © 2025 IEEE.

Skin cancer is the most commonly reported type of cancer globally and one of the few cancers that can be effectively treated if detected in its early stages. Recent advancements in artificial intelligence (AI) have significantly improved skin cancer diagnosis through Machine Learning (ML) and Deep Learning (DL) models. This review explores ML and DL methodologies, including Random Forest, Convolutional Neural Networks (CNNs), Inception Networks, ResNets, and Support Vector Machines (SVMs), which have been widely used for automated diagnosis. However, existing AI-based systems face several challenges, including the need for balanced datasets, model interpretability issues, computational complexity, and difficulties in generalizing across diverse populations. Moreover, multimodal detection systems and Explainable AI (XAI) present additional challenges in making AI-driven diagnoses more reliable and transparent. This article discusses these challenges while also highlighting emerging techniques that integrate multiple data sources and individualized diagnostic tools to enhance precision. By addressing these challenges, this review aims to provide insights into the practical advancements and future directions of AI in skin cancer detection and treatment. © 2025 IEEE.

Modern image recognition has experienced dramatic improvements because of Machine Learning and Deep Learning algorithms together. This study investigates CNNs and SVMs for recognition enhancement while reviewing image recognition technologies extensively through literature. This paper demonstrates how the applications of healthcare and security systems and social media analysis influence society. New developments in technology have not resolved multiple unresolved obstacles such as data bias as well as computational complexity and privacy concerns together with real-time processing restrictions. The latest image processing techniques include ViTs alongside GANs and Few-Shot Learning but developers need to achieve better results in future improvements. The main goal of this research examines present-day advancements in ML and DL with a review of their capabilities as well as constraints before recommending future study paths to overcome problems encountered today. This paper evaluates both the future potential and benefits alongside drawbacks of ML and DL models applied to image recognition. © 2025 IEEE.

Human values capture what people and societies perceive as desirable, transcend specific situations and serve as guiding principles for action. People’s value systems motivate their positions on issues concerning the economy, society and politics among others, influencing the arguments they make. Identifying the values behind arguments can therefore help us find common ground in discourse and uncover the core reasons behind disagreements. Transformer-based large language models (LLMs) have exhibited remarkable performance across language generation and analysis. However, leveraging LLMs in sociotechnical systems that assist with discourse and argumentation necessitates systematically evaluating their ability to analyse and identify the values behind arguments, an under-explored research direction. Using a multi-level human value taxonomy inspired by the Schwartz Theory of Basic Human Values, we present a systematic and critical evaluation of GPT-3.5-turbo in human value identification from a dataset of multi-cultural arguments, across the zero-shot, few-shot and chain-of-thought prompting strategies, carrying forward from prior research on this task which leveraged a fine-tuned BERT model. We observe that prompting strategies exhibit performance levels close to, but still behind fine-tuning for value classification. We also detail some challenges associated with value classification with LLMs, offering potential directions for future research. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Switzerland AG 2025.

Forecasting the price of bitcoins is significant in contemporary research, given the fact that the digital currency is relatively unpredictable and highly integrated in global securities markets. This paper compares the use of three deep learning models, namely recurrent neural networks (RNN), gated recurrent unit (GRU), and a convolutional neural network-long short-term memory (CNN-LSTM) for Bitcoin price prediction. Historical Bitcoin price data is used in the dataset, and every one of the models is trained and tested based on its performance to predict future prices based on past data. The proposed models include the RNN and GRU, which incorporate sequential dependency mappings to learn complex sequences, and the CNN-LSTM structures combine convolution layers for feature extraction and LSTM layers for sequencing. Different models' competency is discussed using the averaged Mean Squared Error (MSE) and graphs of the model's prediction against actual prices. The experimental results reveal that the proposed CNN-LSTM model has better prediction accuracy than RNN and GRU in time-series forecasting tasks, indicating that more complex architecture hybrid models might provide better forecasting performance. In analyzing and analyzing cryptocurrency price dynamics, this investigation gives information about the opportunities and challenges of these models to enhance future research. © 2025 IEEE.
