DNA sequencing is the process of reading in-dividual base pairs from a section of DNA. Genes are the name given to parts of the DNA which encode proteins;for example ion channels are proteins that maintain concentrations of ions within cells. The sequencing of these genes can offer insights into factors such as evolution and disease. During the sequencing process, unknown values 'N' can be substituted in the sequence where the sequencing machine is unable to identify a nucleotide as Adenine (A), Cytosine (C), Thymine (T), or Guanine (G). These gene sequences vary in length;this includes individual genes across the same species. This has led to the use of a process known as k-mer encoding so that a machine learning algorithm can assess these genes without the need for pre-alignment. K-mer encoding works by taking small sections of the sequence and tallying the number of times that such a sequence appears, such as, how many times the k-mer 'ACCT' appears in the overall sequence. The unknown 'N' value presents a problem in k-mer encoding, as this value increases the size of the k-mer feature vector exponentially as the k-mer length increases. In this paper we research the accuracy and computational impact of including, removing, or ignoring this 'N' value for the k-mer lengths 3, 6, and 9 across four Machine Learning algorithms: Random Forest, Multinomial Naive Bayes, Neural Networks, and Linear Support Vector Machine. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper presents a fine-tuned implementation of the quicksort algorithm for highly parallel multicore NVIDIA graphics processors. The described approach focuses on algorith-mic and implementation-level improvements to achieve enhanced performance. Several fine-tuning techniques are explored to identify the best combination of improvements for the quicksort algorithm on GPUs. The results show that this approach leads to a significant reduction in execution time and an improvement in algorithmic operations, such as the number of iterations of the algorithm and the number of operations performed compared to its predecessors. The experiments are conducted on an NVIDIA graphics card, taking into account several distributions of input data. The findings suggest that this fine-tuning approach can enable efficient and fast sorting on GPUs for a wide range of applications. © 2023 IEEE.

The negative impact of fossil fuels has increased the importance of renewable energy, however due to its intermittency, second energy such as fuel cell (FC) is required in many applications. This paper proposes a control strategy of a hybrid PV/ FC/ Battery system for a Malaysian household application by using a combination of PI and switching controllers. Solar radiation and temperature data are based on location in Johor Bahru, Malaysia and the simulation is done using MATLAB Simulink. In this study, the FC is designed as a backup system that operates only when there is no solar radiation and the state of charge (SOC) of the battery is lower than 30%. To evaluate the performance of the proposed control strategy, three different states of SOC have been studied: 30%, 45%, and 100%. In this analysis, the efficiency of the maximum power point tracking (MPPT), boost converter, and bidirectional converter is also being investigated. The result shows that the individual efficiencies of MPPT, PV boost, FC boost and bidirectional converters are 90.38%, 92.33%, 91.35%, and 94.35%, respectively. It can be concluded that the FC works well as a backup generator with overall system efficiency is 71.92%. © 2023 IEEE.

In the Rocky Mountain and Pacific Northwest regions of the United States,forests include extensive portions of standing dead *** regions showcase an intriguing phenomenon where the combined biomass of standing dead trees surpasses that of fallen and decomposing woody *** stems from a suite of factors including pest disturbances,management decisions,and a changing *** increasingly dry and hot conditions,dead timber on a landscape increases the probability that a fire will *** and characterizing the presence of standing dead trees on a landscape helps with forest management efforts including reductions in the wildfire hazard presented by the trees,and vulnerability of nearby park assets should the trees *** forest-based classification,exploratory data analysis,and cluster vulnerability analysis,this study characterized the occurrence and implications of standing dead trees within Yellowstone National *** findings show standing dead trees across the entire study area with varying *** clusters were cross-referenced with vulnerability parameters of distance to roads,distance to trails,distance to water,distance to buildings,and *** parameters inform fire ignition,propagation,and *** weighted sum of these parameters was used to determine the vulnerability incurred on the park assets by the clusters and showed the highest values nearest to park entrances and points of *** vulnerability clusters warrant priority management to reduce wildfire *** framework of this study can be applied to other sites and incorporate additional vulnerability variables to assess forest fuel and *** can provide a reference for management to prioritize areas for resource conservation and improve fire prevention and suppression efficiency.

Human population growth strains food supplies, resulting in more than one billion of the world's 6.5 billion people facing hunger, which is the leading cause of death. In consequence, increasing crop production through traditional farming methods will not address the global food scarcity problem. As a precision agriculture approach, aeroponics, a soilless agriculture technique, can assist in cultivating in-demand food crops, which will help serve the people. Because aeroponics is an indoor farming technology, factors such as pH, EC, light, temperature, PPM, and turbidity will affect crop growth. Hence, monitoring an aeroponic crop growth system efficiently is crucial for achieving a high crop yield and reducing the need for food crops. Even though, many crop monitoring systems use IoT and machine learning algorithms, their prediction accuracy is not up to the level and if they are deployed in the real world, they may not meet customer expectations. In order to efficiently monitor crops, more advanced models are needed. However, understanding the large volume of data can be very tedious. Data visualization techniques can help make the distribution of the dataset easier to understand. Machine learning methods and packages can be used for environmental monitoring and visualization of the data where, the collection of crop growth dataset is carried out using various IoT sensors deployed in the growth environment. This study provides a comprehensive explanation of the data visualization techniques used to study the lettuce crop dataset and predict lettuce yield using the logistic regression machine learning method which is been implemented using Python coding language. © 2023 IEEE.

Zero Trust Architecture (ZTA) is one of the paradigm changes in cybersecurity, from the traditional perimeter-based model to perimeterless. This article studies the core concepts of ZTA, its beginning, a few use cases and future trends. Emphasising the always-verify and least privilege access, some key tenets of ZTA have grown to be integration technologies like Identity Management, Multi-Factor Authentication (MFA) and real-time analytics. ZTA is expected to strengthen cloud environments, education, work environments (including from home) while controlling other risks like lateral movement and insider threats. Despite ZTA's benefits, it comes with challenges in the form of complexity, performance overhead and vulnerabilities in the control plane. These require phased implementation and continuous refinement to keep up with evolving organisational needs and threat landscapes. Emerging technologies, such as Artificial Intelligence (AI) and Machine Learning (ML) will further automate policy enforcement and threat detection in keeping up with dynamic cyber threats. © 2025 IEEE.

Touch gesture biometrics authentication system is the study of user's touching behavior on his touch device to identify *** features traditionally used in touch gesture authentication systems are extracted using hand-crafted feature extraction *** this work,we investigate the ability of Deep Learning(DL)to automatically discover useful features of touch gesture and use them to authenticate the *** different models are investigated Long-Short Term Memory(LSTM),Gated Recurrent Unit(GRU),Convolutional Neural Network(CNN)combined with LSTM(CNN-LSTM),and CNN combined with GRU(CNN-GRU).In addition,different regularization techniques are investigated such as Activity Regularizer,Batch Normalization(BN),Dropout,and *** deep networks were trained from scratch and tested using TouchAlytics and BioIdent datasets for dynamic touch *** result reported in terms of authentication accuracy,False Acceptance Rate(FAR),False Rejection Rate(FRR).The best result we have been obtained was 96.73%,96.07%and 96.08%for training,validation and testing accuracy respectively with dynamic touch authentication system on TouchAlytics dataset with CNN-GRU DL model,while the best result of FAR and FRR obtained on TouchAlytics dataset was with CNN-LSTM were FAR was 0.0009 and FRR was *** BioIdent dataset the best results have been obtained was 84.87%,78.28%and 78.35%for Training,validation and testing accuracy respectively with CNN-LSTM *** use of a learning based approach in touch authentication system has shown good results comparing with other state-of-the-art using TouchAlytics dataset.

Land use and land cover(LULC)changes refer to alterations in land use or physical *** changes can be caused by human activities,such as urbanization,agriculture,and resource extraction,as well as natural phenomena,for example,erosion and climate *** changes significantly impact ecosystem services,biodiversity,and human *** this study,LULC changes in Davao City,Philippines,were simulated,predicted,and projected using a multilayer perception artificial neural network(MLP-ANN)*** MLP-ANN model was employed to analyze the impact of elevation and proximity to road networks(i.e.,exploratory maps)on changes in LULC from 2017 to *** predicted 2021 LULC map shows a high correlation to the actual LULC map of 2021,with a kappa index of 0.91 and a 96.68%*** MLP-ANN model was applied to project LULC changes in the future(i.e.,2030 and 2050).The results suggest that in 2030,the built-up area and trees are increasing by 4.50%and 2.31%,***,water will decrease by up to 0.34%,and crops is about to decrease by approximately 3.25%.In the year 2050,the built-up area will continue to increase to 6.89%,while water and crops will decrease by 0.53%and 3.32%,***,the results show that anthropogenic activities influence the land’s ***,the study illustrates how machine learning models can generate a reliable future scenario of land usage changes.

The Cricket Performance Analysis System based on big data tools, like Hadoop and Apache Spark, gives realtime deep insights into performances from players and teams and conditions in matches based on large-scale cricket match data. It scales up speedily and finds patterns using distributed computing capabilities of Spark, which makes it possible to take decisions around performance improvements and strategies. The system applies a set of machine learning techniques including K-means clustering, Logistic Regression, and Random Forest classifiers to be used for the analysis of player performance metrics and match outcomes. Thus, through the conversion of raw data into actionable insights, teams can improve their strategies, make better improvements in performance, and thus gain an upper hand against other competing professional cricket teams. As a result, teams are best positioned to make adjustments in good time and direct finer tactics toward further enhancement of overall performance. © 2024 IEEE.
