Post-installed anchors are commonly used for steel-to-concrete connections, attributable to ease of installation as drilling technology advances. Besides, they offer the advantage of minimizing misalignment issues during construction compared to cast-in anchors. The anchor design calculations in EN 1992-4:2018 can be daunting for practicing engineers, given its complexity and state-of-the-art compared to ETAG 001 (2013). In an earlier publication, the authors described a methodology for simplifying the complex empirical equations in EN 1992-4:2018 for designing the tensile capacity of post-installed anchors into a simplified design tool. This work is a sequel to the previous work to develop a simplified design tool for estimating the design shear capacity of post-installed anchors (mechanical and bonded anchors) encompassing all failure modes. The calculation was first automated using a spreadsheet for the characteristic shear resistance of anchors and was verified using Hilti PROFIS engineering software. The simplified design tool is summarized based on the lowest resistance of the anchor encompassing all failure modes. The design tool is demonstrated for an example of a 125 mm thick C30/37 concrete slab for commonly available anchor sizes of M8, M10, M12, M16, M20, and M24. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

Current practice in the development of credit risk assessment models relies on a large amount of client data, such as account balance information, socio-demographic data, tenure features, or credit history of the client. With the increasing number of different data sources, it is possible to employ nonconventional information to assess clients' credit risk. Consumption data are an example of such a source, as they provide an overview of clients' spending habits. However, considering this information at a level of individual companies where clients' purchases took place inherently leads to sparse data, as customers typically shop at only a small subset of the available retailers. We demonstrate that commonly used models suffer from poor performance caused by the sparsity of the consumption data, and applying dimensionality reduction techniques such as PCA does not offer a meaningful improvement. In this paper, we propose two word2vec based models that leverage the contextual information of clients' spending habits. Both of the developed models achieved significantly higher Gini scores, outperforming the baseline models by as much as 72%. © 2022 IEEE.

Automating trading decisions has been a pursuit of researchers and practitioners alike for decades. We contribute to the literature focusing on "pattern based" strategies. Dynamic time warping is used to group similar patterns into a representative category, while the method of continual learning augmentation is used to maintain the set of patterns used for decision-making. Thus, we implement a novel approach to pattern-based trading, utilising adaptive memory structures to enable adaptability of agent decision making and overall agent performance. Two new online pattern-based trading agents are introduced and tested on two-sets of historical cryptocurrency data, for the BTCUSDT pair over the periods of 2017–2023 and 2023–2024. We compare our newly formulated agents against an established baseline of rule-based agents, thereby comparing the relative profit generating abilities of a wide range of agents. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

In this paper we propose a new unsupervised deep learning method for single image dehazing. The method is based on a new loss function that incorporates a smooth approximation of the famous dark channel prior. The method is used to train a neural network and results are compared to state of the art results of supervised neural networks. Evaluation is done by comparing increase in object detection on dehazed images as well as by visual inspection of results of dehazing on natural images. © 2022 IEEE.

This paper focuses on experimental research of the efficiency of lithium-ion batteries, an important but often overlooked metric that can be used to assess charging and discharging energy losses. Two widespread lithium-ion technologies are compared: Lithium-Nickel-Manganese-Cobalt-Oxide and Lithium-Iron-Phosphate. The batteries are cycled using different charging/discharging rates using the constant-current-constant-voltage method, as well as the constant-power-constant-voltage method. The two methods are compared and the influence of a particular mode (constant current, constant power and constant voltage) on battery efficiency is analyzed. Determination of one-way voltaic and energy efficiencies is based on the batteries’ open-circuit voltage characteristics which are determined experimentally. An in-depth analysis of the voltaic efficiency and its dependence on the charging/discharging rate and the battery’s state-of-charge is given. An accurate information about the battery’s one-way efficiencies potentially increases accuracy of various battery models. © 2022 IET Conference Proceedings. All rights reserved.

This paper presents an field-programmable gate array (FPGA) implementation of a model predictive controller (MPC) based on one-step controllable ellipsoidal sets. Ellipsoidal sets are precomputed off-line, while the MPC optimization problem is solved in real time in FPGA hardware. For solving the optimization problem, a fast gradient projection method is used. The implementation of a controller is verified in a FPGA-in-the-loop simulation, showing the computational times in microsecond range. © 2022 Croatian Society MIPRO.

The basic concept of Internet of Things is the ability to upgrade everyday objects with identification, sensor, network, and processing capabilities that will enable them to communicate with each other, as well as with other devices and services via the Internet. Improved in this way, these objects become smart objects, because they require minimal or even no human intervention to generate, exchange, collect, analyze, and manage data. The numerous possibilities of IoT provide great potential for its application in various areas of human life. In this paper, a comprehensive review of IoT implementation research is given, with a special emphasis on its application in education. The opportunities and advantages that IoT provides to educational institutions and all stakeholders in the learning and teaching process are listed and categorized. Visual recognition with deep learning has recently been shown to be effective in robotic vision. However, these algorithms tend to be build under fixed and structured environment, which is rarely the case in real life. When facing unknown objects, avoidance or human interactions are required, which may miss critical objects or be prohibitively costly to obtain on robots in the real world. We consider a practical problem setting that aims to allow robots to automatically discover novel classes with only labelled known class samples in hand, defined as open-set clustering (OSC). To address the OSC problem, we propose a framework combining three approaches: 1) using selfsupervised vision transformers to mitigate the discard of information needed for clustering unknown classes;2) adaptive weighting for image patches to prioritize patches with richer textures;and 3) incorporating a temperature scaling strategy to generate more separable feature embeddings for clustering. We demonstrate the efficacy of our approach in six fine-grained image datasets. © 2024 The Authors

Firewalls are security devices that perform network traffic filtering. They are ubiquitous in the industry and are a common method used to enforce organizational security policy. Security policy is specified on a high level of abstraction, with statements such as "web browsing is allowed only on workstations inside the office network", and needs to be translated into low-level firewall rules to be enforceable. There has been a lot of work regarding optimization, analysis and platform independence of firewall rules, but an area that has seen much less success is automatic translation of high-level security policies into firewall rules. In addition to improving rules' readability, such translation would make it easier to detect *** paper surveys of over twenty papers that aim to generate firewall rules according to a security policy specified on a higher level of abstraction. It also presents an overview of similar features in modern firewall systems. Most approaches define specialized domain languages that get compiled into firewall rule sets, with some of them relying on formal specification, ontology, or graphical models. The approaches' have improved over time, but there are still many drawbacks that need to be solved before wider application. © 2022 Croatian Society MIPRO.

Active involvement of residential consumers in smart home initiatives is a key for realization of the smart grid. In this framework, the active customers are subject to demand response programs used to efficiently reduce the amount and timing of electricity consumption. The main requirements for residential demand response programs are acquiring real-Time electricity consumption data and load profiles of residential appliances. Development of communication technologies and smart load monitoring applications has simplified the access to this information. This paper investigates and describes the design of a developed data acquisition and monitoring system for demand response implementation in the residential sector. Our smart monitoring system integrates a number of residential electric appliances to study their daily energy consumption profiles and, in the future, forecasts their potential demand response capacity. We describe the design of a LabView application for acquiring, logging, processing and visualizing data derived from the Demand Response Laboratory (DR Lab) at the University of Zagreb faculty of Electrical engineering and computing (UNIZG-FER). The monitoring system is implemented in a way that enables an-cillary service provisioning and participation in demand response programs. © 2023 IEEE.
