Oil palm significantly contributes to Malaysia's Gross Domestic Product (GDP). To maintain palm oil productivity, keeping the oil palm crop in good health, and free from nutrient deficiencies is necessary. Therefore, a method to analyze nutrient deficiencies is required. Nutrient deficiencies can be detected in the oil palm leaves. The study proposes an image-processing method that classifies three crucial nutrient deficiencies in a palm oil leaf: Nitrogen, Potassium, and Magnesium. To improve the processing rate, a convolution neural network (CNN) based on the AlexNet architecture has been implemented, which has been successful in image classification tasks and produced remarkable results in automated classification. The AlexNet architecture consists of five (5) convolved layers and three (3) fully connected layers, achieving an accuracy of 90.85%. This shows that AlexNet is an efficient algorithm for classifying nutrient deficiencies in palm oil leaves. However, a lower classification rate was observed for Magnesium compared to Nitrogen and Potassium. Due to the similarity in texture and color which may cause misinterpretation by the classifier. Further exploration of other CNN architectures will be conducted in the future to improve classification accuracy. © 2023 IEEE.

Monkeypox is an infectious illness caused by the DNA-based monkeypox virus, which has raised public health concerns due to its rapid transmission to over 50 countries. Direct physical interaction with infected humans or infected animals is the main reason behind the spread of this virus. The appearance of skin problems such as smallpox and rashes are the most frequently reported symptoms of this virus. Since cases of monkeypox are increasing rapidly around the world, stopping the spread of this zoonosis by providing early diagnosis and treatment is crucial before the emergence of a pandemic similar to COVID-19. In this study, we aim to propose a transfer learning-based approach using the EfficientNet-B0 architecture to identify monkeypox subjects by using skin lesion image samples. However, distinguishing monkeypox from other comparable infectious skin illnesses like chickenpox and measles is challenging. Therefore, additionally, this study identifies other diseases that also cause blisters and rashes on the skin, like chickenpox, and measles. During the data distribution phase, 5-fold cross-validation is used to validate the work's reliability by assuring that every sample is utilized for training and validation. For the evaluation of the model's classification performance, accuracy and loss are recorded for each training epoch. Moreover, precision, recall, F1-score, and confusion matrix are generated upon completion of the model training. This proposed approach is experimented on a public dataset and has shown remarkable performance by providing an overall 96.53% classification accuracy, 96.57% precision, 96.53% recall, and 96.52% F1-score. © 2023 IEEE.

This paper proposes an integrated smart energy management system that applies different machine learning regression techniques to gather, enhance, and prepare various relevant data taken from the surrounding environment to predict and schedule the running periods of one of the schedulable appliances in the household. The system was applied to a case study with encouraging results showing energy consumption reduction rates up to 36%. © 2022 IEEE.

Academic writing is a significant challenge for many learners striving for proficiency. Adaptive scaffolding techniques and AI tools in education have proven effective in addressing this challenge and supporting learners in improving their academic writing skills when used correctly. This position paper proposes combining adaptive scaffolding techniques with AI tools in a public university's final year academic writing course to enhance the learning experience and mastery of academic writing skills in Serbian. The proposed plan outlines the course structure and details how the AI-driven adaptive scaffolding techniques will be integrated to support the learning experience, focusing on summative and formative feedback from the AI tool. The proposed plan is a work in progress. It will be implemented in the next iteration of the course for evaluation, taking into account potential counter-arguments and their impact on the tool's development and the student's learning experience and outcomes. This study will analyse our plan's effectiveness in enhancing the learning experience and outcomes. The expected outcome is to assist students in their learning while contributing to the development of AI in education and the Serbian language. Modern streaming data categorization faces significant challenges from concept drift and class imbalanced data. This negatively impacts the output of the classifier, leading to improper classification. Furthermore, other factors such as the overlapping of multiple classes limit the extent of the correctness of the output. This work proposes a novel framework for integrating data pre-processing and dynamic ensemble selection, by formulating the classification framework for the nonstationary drifting imbalanced data stream, which employs the data pre-processing and dynamic ensemble selection techniques. The proposed framework was evaluated using six artificially generated data streams with differing imbalance ratios in combination with two different types of concept drifts. Each stream is composed of 200 chunks of 500 objects described by eight features and contains five concept drifts. Seven pre-processing techniques and two dynamic ensemble selection methods were considered. According to experimental results, data pre-processing combined with Dynamic Ensemble Selection techniques significantly delivers more accuracy when dealing with imbalanced data streams. © 2023 IEEE.

Clone detection provides insight about replicated fragments in a code base. With the rise of multi-language code bases, new techniques addressing cross-language code clone detection enable the analysis of polyglot systems. Such techniques have not yet been applied to the mobile apps’ domain, which are naturally polyglot. Native mobile app developers must synchronize their code base in at least two different programming languages. App synchronization is a difficult and time-consuming maintenance task, as features can rapidly diverge between platforms, and feature identification must be performed manually. Our goal is to provide an analysis framework to reduce the impact of app synchronization. A first step in this direction consists on a structural algorithm for cross-language clone detection exploiting the idea behind enriched concrete syntax trees. Such trees are used as a common intermediate representation built from programming languages’ grammars, to detect similarities between app code bases. Our technique finds code similarities with 79% precision for controlled tests where Type 1-3 clones are manually injected for the analysis of both single- and cross-language cases for Kotlin and Dart. We evaluate our tool on a corpus of 52 mobile apps identifying code similarities with a precision of 65% to 84% for the full application logic. © 2023 CIbSE 2023 - XXVI Ibero-American Conference on Software engineering. In this work we present the design and development of a twitching control system for pneumatic artificial muscle (PAM) actuators. In this system, a shape memory alloy (SMA) poppet valve is used to control the flow of air pressurizing the inner bladder of a McKibben-based PAM. The valve is driven by pulse width modulation with changing frequency, allowing the PAM to resemble the mammalian muscles twitching. An adjustable passive exhaust orifice is used in place of an exhaust air valve to release the air pressure from the bladder mimicking natural muscle relaxation behaviour. Experiments under isometric and isotonic contractions show that the proposed control system reduces hysteresis of about 72% compared to continuous activation against 15% loss in contraction force with respect to conventional exhaust air valves. © 2023 IEEE.
