Impact of Beam Misalignment Fading on Terahertz Band Drone Communications

In this letter, we evaluate the impact of beam misalignment (BM) fading on Terahertz (THz) drone communications by deriving simple novel closed-form expressions for the outage probability and average bit error rate (BER). Additionally, we present a high signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) regime analysis, resulting in the diversity orders of the outage probability and the average BER under the BM fading, including their asymptotic limits as a function of distance. We show that the results via our proposed closed-form expressions depict good agreement with the results via simulations and alternative expressions from the literature, also highlighting the simplicity of our solutions, which leads to valuable insights via diversity order analysis. © 2025 IEEE. The study aims to analyze the effectiveness of wastewater treatment by using Carica papaya seeds as bio coagulants to diminish total suspended solids (TSS) and excess phosphate. This method has some advantages because it does not use chemical materials, is simple to apply, and is safe for the environment and human health. The wastewater samples were taken from an active laundry site in Palembang City, South Sumatra Province of Indonesia. The study found that the best dosage of coagulant was 3 g for the wastewater samples. The pH and BOD parameters showed slight changes after treatment, with pH 7.63–7.19 and 33–27 mg/L values, respectively. The TSS removal efficiency ranged from 9.3 to 15.6%, while the COD and phosphate removals were obtained from 11.7 to 39.3% and 56.3 to 68.4%, respectively. The treated TSS, COD, and phosphate concentrations have met the Indonesian domestic wastewater quality standard and environmental protection organization (EPO) guidelines. One strategy for emission reduction in Indonesia is the dedieselization program, replacing diesel power plants with renewables. Pressurized Water Reactor (PWR) type Small Modular Reactor (SMR) is also a consideration. This study aims to compare fuel performance in SMRs. Four fuel types with varying fissile and fertile nuclides but equal fissile mass percentages were assessed: U235- U238, U235-Th232, U233-U238, and U233-Th232, using PIJ SRAC 2006 and JENDL 4.0. Parameters include neutron multiplication factor, conversion ratio, and isotope production. Results indicated that U233-U238 has a highest initial neutron multiplication factor, 1.55. Substituting uranium-238 with thorium-232 boosts neutron flux and conversion, reducing nuclear proliferation risk. While initial neutron multiplication may not be highest, thorium-232 can produce uranium-233 with high initial neutron multiplication factor. A queue in health facilities happened when the service capacity is limited, while the patients keep arriving and then waiting. In many cases, besides waiting, customers can be rejected from the system (balking). This case was considered as the cause of the daily positive cases of COVID-19 patients in Arcamanik Sub City Area (SCA). This observation was conducted from September 17, 2020 to February 4, 2021. Arcamanik SCA was frequently included in one of the highest positive cases of COVID-19 in Bandung City, West Java, Indonesia. The server used was the number of beds in Hermina Arcamanik Hospital, the referral hospital in the observed area. The method used a discrete event simulation, with an Erlang B queuing model (G/M/c):(FIFO/c/∞). The more the servers, the more chances the patients being rejected would converge to zero. The minimum required bed was 32 beds, hence patients who come were not rejected. Meanwhile, the rejected patients can visit another hospital as an alternative, one of which is Hasan Sadikin hospital (Rumah Sakit Hasan Sadikin/RSHS) as the central hospital of Bandung City. The proportion of beds for patients from Arcamanik SCA was 0.16 times the excess empty beds. Fly ash waste from the Asam-Asam Power Plant in South Kalimantan continues to increase. Various attempts have been made to utilize fly ash waste, among others. as a basic material for making geopolymers. Geopolymer is environmentally friendly because it replaces all cement with high Silica (Si) and Alumina (Al) wastes such as fly ash. This study aims to characterize fly ash as a raw material of geopolymer. Fly ash was filtered using 200 mesh and then heated in an oven at 105°C for 24 hours. The prepared fly ash was then tested for physical properties and compound analysis using XRF, identification of chemical bonds and functional groups using FTIR, morphology, and elements using SEM EDX. Initial and final setting time was investigated using the Vicat apparatus to determine e whether cement is undergoing proper hydration. The results indicated that the fly ash was classified to class F. That was based on the amount of SiO2 + Al2O3 + Fe2O3 of 85.91%, and the CaO content was less than 10%. Moreover, fly ash's initial and final setting time was 1072.5 and 3180 minutes, respectively. Fly ash in this research can be used as a raw material for geopolymers. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

A remote telescope system has been established at Universitas Nusa Cendana, Kupang. Bosscha Observatory, Institut Teknologi Bandung (ITB), and the Physics Study program at Universitas Nusa Cendana (Undana) collaborated to develop the system. The ITB-Undana Telescope system has a QSI 616 CCD camera and BV RI Bessel filter attached to a 20-cm (f/10) Schmidt-Cassegrain reflector. Several research and public outreach activities have been conducted using the ITB-Undana remote telescope throughout 2023. When establishing a new astronomical observation site, it is imperative to conduct sky characterization and quality assessment. This process involves measuring night sky brightness and atmospheric extinction coefficients. In May 2023, we observed photometric standard stars using the absolute photometry technique with BV RI Bessel filters. We also utilized the Sky Quality Meter (SQM) to measure night sky brightness over three nights from May 24th to May 26th, 2023, to compare the sky brightness values obtained through the absolute photometry method. Our initial measurement shows a first-order extinction coefficient value ranging from kb′ = 0.269 to 0.520, kv′ = 0.216 to 0.297, kr′ = 0.019 to 0.206, and ki′ = 0.127 to 0.163, for B, V, R, and I filter, respectively. Application of extinction coefficient value in the sky field gives a mean sky brightness value in V bandpass, Vsky = 19.431 ± 0.022, with color index (B - V )sky = 0.492 ± 0.039. These night sky brightness values are suitable for measurements using the SQM. © Published under licence by IOP Publishing Ltd.

In the life insurance industry, determining the amount of premium paid by the insured to the insurer is crucial. This paper uses Stackelberg’s game theory to describe the reality that occurs between two parties involved in this business, i.e. the insured and the insurer. The insurer as a leader offers four different insurance products, and the insured as a follower has two strategies: (1) accepting or (2) rejecting one of the offered insurance products. The amount of premium is obtained by optimizing the insurer’s profit for each insurance product and the insured’s choice of strategy with a certain premium value limit. For the model formulation, the Indonesia Mortality Table IV is used as a guide to obtaining the parameters of the Makeham and Gompertz distribution (survival) functions. The developed model can determine (1) the amount of premium for each insurance product offered, (2) the expectation of insureds who will purchase each insurance product, and (3) the maximum profit for each of the two parties. A genetic algorithm is used to obtain the best solution. The result shows that the third insurance product, which uses Makeham distribution and offers two types of benefits, is preferred by the two parties involved. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2024.

This study examined the effect of Zn2+ ion substitution on ZnxMn(1-x) Fe2O4 nanoparticles (x = 0.2, 0.4, 0.6, 0.8) towards signal Surface Plasmon Resonance (SPR). The co-precipitation method synthesised the nanoparticles at a temperature of 90°C. The X-Ray Diffraction (XRD) results showed a polycrystalline structure with a crystallite size varied from 19.05 nm to 19.77 nm. In addition, as the Zn element increased in the ZnxMn(1-x)Fe2O4 nanoparticles, the degree of crystallinity increased by 21.72%, respectively. The optical properties of the nanoparticles ZnxMn(1-x) Fe2O4 indicate absorbance at wavelengths of 330.36–331.74 nm. The absorbance level increased as the Zn element decreased, resulting a direct optical gap of 3.47 eV and an indirect optical gap of 3.23 eV. The Attenuated Total Reflection (ATR) curve in the SPR biosensor indicated a shift in the reflective angle of the Prism/Au/Air configuration, which is 47.78° on Prisma/Au/nanoparticle of Zn0.8Mn0.2Fe2O4/air by 50.75°, and the prism/Au/nanoparticle of Zn0.2Mn0.8Fe2 O4/air by 51.04°. The substitution of Zn ions in the compound Zn x Mn(1-x)Fe2O4 affects the resulting ATR curve. The shift in the SPR angle is caused by changes in the refractive index in each layer which is influenced by the concentration of each material which has an impact on the absorbance ability and photon reflectance. This research has the potential to continue with the testing of dielectric and magnetic properties, as well as special testing for biological analytes compatible with ZnxMn(1-x)Fe2O4 nanoparticles. © 2023 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.

In this study, the iron oxide/titanium dioxide (a-Fe2O3/TiO2) nanocomposites derived from Logas natural sand were prepared by ball milling method. The effects of milling time on the magnetic, optical properties and chemical composition of the nanocomposites were investigated using vibrating sample magnetometer (VSM), Uv-Vis spectroscopy and X-ray fluorescence (XRF) spectroscopy, respectively. The magnetization measurement results of all the samples showed the presence of ferromagnetic behaviour characterized by their low coercivity value ranged from 360.10 Oe to 86.50Oe. The optical properties of the samples strongly depend on milling time and showed that the band gaps of the iron oxide/titanium dioxide (a-Fe2O3/TiO2) nanocomposites decrease with increasing milling time. Some other elements such as silicon, aluminium and others were detected, which shows that the milled sample is not purely a-Fe2O3/TiO2 nanocomposites as confirmed by X-Ray Fluorescence. This study demonstrates the simple way of preparing the a-Fe2O3/TiO2 nanocomposites for environmental application. © 2024 Institute of Physics Publishing. All rights reserved.
