Minimizing Cost Overrun in Rail Projects Through 5d-Bim: The Case Study of Victoria

This study evaluates the adoption and efficacy of the 5th Dimension Building Information Modelling (5D-BIM) as a cost dimension for mega rail projects, extending the discussion beyond just technological implementation to consider broader policy and practical implications. The purpose of this article is to understand the governance context of 5D-BIM implementation for rail and transport projects and evaluate the effectiveness of the 5D-BIM framework as currently applied by conducting semi-structured interviews with key stakeholders. While the primary focus of the research is 5D BIM implementations within the state of Victoria, Australia, which is currently experiencing a surge in rail projects, interviews were also conducted with additional stakeholders from international rail projects for context. The results of the interviews emphasise the centrality of government and regulatory context in driving the adoption and implementation of 5D-BIM as the primary client of transportation infrastructure and identifies actionable recommendations for policymakers and practitioners towards a more integrated approach to 5D-BIM in mega rail projects. The required analytical key themes identified developing industry-wide BIM standards, promoting BIM literacy, and encouraging innovations to optimize 5D-BIM's potential in enhancing project delivery and governance. The empirical evaluation of the 5D-BIM framework, offering key leavers for the applicability and effectiveness is a key contribution theoretically and for the policy formulation to achieving the governance of mega rail projects to reduce the cost overrun phenomenon. © 2024, The Authors. Having known by the facts on the ageing studies on insulating oil, it is ever important to know the key indicators encompassed within this. One of the crucial things in ageing study is to map the relevant parameters with the method which it is related to. Here, in this short review however insightful way is to relate the outcomes of depolymerization of paper insulation during the ageing process on various insulating fluids. In this context, the indicators besieged in the content provides not only a foreknowledge but also details of ageing method adopted, key properties, target application, standards used, special tests and software used. Overall, these data serve as a package to develop new concepts in ageing studies on insulating fluids. The scope for the future research encompasses with state-of-the-art method to improve the speed of analysis via comprehensive tools. This applies to insulating oils used in both the Power Transformer (PT) and the Distribution Transformer (DT).

To reduce carbon dioxide emissions, environmental pressure caused by the magnesium oxysulfate (MOS) cement production process or the expiration of service life must be avoided. This experiment investigated the change in the phase structure and microstructure of the 517 phase (5Mg(OH)2·MgSO4·7H2O) after medium- or high-temperature treatment and its performance after remixing with water. The results were characterized by X-ray diffraction (XRD), thermal gravity-differential thermal gravity (TG-DTG), and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). The results show that the 517 phase can be dehydrated to form a mesophase after medium-temperature treatment, and these mesophase structures decompose with increasing treatment time. These mesophase products have cementing properties, and the 517 phase can be reformed by mixing the mesophase with water and has a certain strength. The raw material of MOS cement obtained from 517 treated at 500°C has high activity, so a retarder is needed to reform the 517 phase. The modified sample has higher mechanical properties, which can meet the application needs. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

Due to its significance as a functional component in power transformers (PT) and distribution transformers (DT), the dielectric liquid has been the subject of the current study. To create a new dielectric liquid that will outperform its predecessors and uphold the highest standards, dielectric research was conducted worldwide. Under this method additive addition, comparison of various testing, key properties or properties focused, various advantages and disadvantages of the research, target applications, various standards used in the methodology, any other special studies undertaken, and the analysis tool used are all included. The result of these discussions besieges the critical failure elements of the liquid dielectric with novel methods and mitigation techniques. Researchers will undoubtedly gain a wealth of knowledge from the debates offered, allowing them to examine different approaches in one location and select the best standard and methodology for their research.

Due to the water depth limitations of the channel, large vessels need to enter and exit tidal ports by the tide, especially the tidal port with compound channels that have two-way navigable, and large and small vessels are divided, which puts forward higher requirements for berth allocation and tugboat scheduling of the tidal port. To address the needs of numerous vessels entering and leaving the port through such dual channels, port operators must allocate berths and schedule tugboats to assist with berthing, shifting, and unberthing operations to ensure the safety of the vessels. To study berth allocation and tugboat scheduling for tidal ports with compound channels, this paper constructs a two-stage mixed-integer linear programming model. The first stage, the berth allocation model, is to minimize the total cost composed of vessel berthing deviation cost and waiting cost considering the constraint of the tide. The second stage, the tugboat scheduling optimization model, is to minimize the tugboat dispatch cost and energy consumption cost considering multiple tugboat bases, etc. An enumeration algorithm is developed to solve the first-stage model, and a genetic algorithm combined with a variable neighborhood search algorithm is for the second stage. Extensive numeric experiments verify the validity of the model and algorithms by comparing instances with different scales. The results prove the joint optimization of berth allocation and tugboat scheduling not only effectively saves the port operating cost, but also reduces fuel consumption from vessels and tugboats. © 2024, The Authors. The water conveyance tunnel may cross seismic fault fracture zones, which can cause significant deformation and threaten the structural integrity of tunnel. To address this issue, a novel corrugated tube-rubber-concrete flexible joint (CTRCFJ) was proposed for the first time to improve fault resistance. The effectiveness of CTRCFJ was evaluated using advanced 3D nonlinear finite element analysis. Design parameters of CTRCFJ, such as rubber widths, corrugated tube interval, and corrugated tube widths, were presented based on the distribution of axial bending moment of the lining structure. An orthogonal test determined the optimal combination of these parameters. The effects of the number of crests, different steel grades and wall thickness of corrugated tube on the fracture resistance of CTRCFJ were discussed. Results showed that CTRCFJ can effectively improve the resisting dislocation performance of composite lining water conveyance tunnels crossing reverse faults by reducing axial compression and bending strain. The study provides reference significance for the structural design of composite lining structures crossing reverse faults. © 2023, The Authors. All rights reserved.

The liquefaction of gravelly soil has been demonstrated in many earthquakes, but the constitutive model to predict its liquefaction behavior is limited. The dilatancy equation plays an important role in establishing elastoplastic models of geotechnical materials. According to the dilatancy characteristics of gravelly soil, an improved nonlinear dilatancy equation is incorporated into the framework of the generalized plasticity model and a unified elastoplastic constitutive model is proposed to predict the monotonic and cyclic behaviors of saturated gravelly soil under different drainage conditions. A series of drained and undrained triaxial tests of gravelly soil under monotonic and cyclic loadings are carried out to validate the model performance. In addition, the model performance is also examined through monotonic and liquefaction test results of gravelly soil and sand obtained from prior publications. Furthermore, the proposed model is implemented into the nonlinear finite element program GEODYNA and applied to the numerical simulations of LEAP centrifuge tests to better validate the numerical capabilities of the proposed model. From the comprehensive results of triaxial tests and numerical simulations, the proposed model performs well in predicting liquefaction behavior of gravelly soil and can provide a powerful tool for seismic liquefaction analysis of gravelly and sandy soil sites. © 2023, The Authors. Compared with fixed bottom vertical axis wind turbines (VAWTs), floating VAWTs have greater development potential, but the movements of a floating platform can not only affect the aerodynamic loads, but also may alter the wake characteristics of the wind turbines. In this paper, a twin-rotor vertical axis wind turbine with a symmetrical NACA0021 airfoil profile, mounted on a semi-submersible platform is proposed. A counter-rotating configuration is adopted for the two rotors. A computational fluid dynamic (CFD) method is employed to solve Navies-Stokes equations, combined with a shear stress transport (SST) k-ω turbulence model. Considering surge and sway motions of the floating platform in extreme waves, a oneway coupling to the twin-rotor VAWT is implemented, in which the influence of the aerodynamic loads to that of the platform motion is ignored with the assumption that this effect is negligible, and the impacts of the coupling such as aerodynamic forces (torque, tangential force, normal forces) in various motion periods and amplitudes, are analysed in detail.

In India, agriculture is the main foundation of income for people. It has a momentous influence on the national economy. Nevertheless, there are obstacles in agriculture these days because of the relocation of society from rural to urban areas. Crop output can be increased, but not entirely by monitoring environmental factors. There aren't many things that significantly lower productivity. Therefore, automation needs to be used in farming to solve these issues. an automated irrigation system, saving the farmer money, time, then effort. Manual intervention is necessary for the irrigation of farmland using traditional methods. The amount of human intervention in irrigation can be reduced with automated equipment. Constant crop monitoring and sensing through the conjunction of sensors and the Internet of Things (IOT) to inform agriculturalists about crop growing and yield times on a regular basis, resulting in high crop productivity and accurate product delivery to customers at the appropriate time and location. Therefore, we use IOT-based smart agriculture techniques to solve this issue. In order to gather and process field data, this project has sensors for temperature, humidity, soil moisture, and rain detection. To remotely manage and monitor sensor data, these sensors are coupled with recognized web technologies in the form of a wireless sensor system.
