The Internet of Things (IoTs) as a technology and its mainstreaming by numerous governments throughout the world have sped up the creation of numerous new IoT developments. IoTs are boosting quality of life in cities all over the world by ensuring health care, analyzing traffic, and constructing better and more efficient services for delivery in a variety of sectors, including energy, water, and sanitation. This paper seeks to comprehend some of these technologies and how they might be incorporated into Sub-Saharan Africa, with a particular emphasis on Botswana. The study proposes an improved Harris hawks optimization(IHHO) algorithm by integrating the standard Harris hawks optimization(HHO) algorithm and mutation-based search mechanism for developing a high-performance machine learning solution for predicting soil compression index. HHO is a newly introduced meta-heuristic optimization algorithm(MOA) used to solve continuous search *** to the original HHO, the proposed IHHO can evade trapping in local optima, which in turn raises the search capabilities and enhances the search mechanism relying on mutation. Subsequently, a novel meta-heuristic-based soft computing technique called ELM-IHHO was established by integrating IHHO and extreme learning machine(ELM) to estimate soil compression index. A sum of 688 consolidation test data was collected for this purpose from an ongoing dedicated freight corridor railway project. To evaluate the generalization capability of the proposed ELM-IHHO model, a detailed comparison between ELM-IHHO and other well-established MOAs, such as particle swarm optimization,genetic algorithm, and biogeography-based optimization integrated with ELM, was performed. Based on the outcomes, the ELM-IHHO model exhibits superior performance over the other MOAs in predicting soil compression index.

Do Shrinking Cities Correlate with the Demographic Aging Process?Evidence from Shrinking Cities in China

Urban shrinkage is a world-wide phenomenon characterized by population loss in a short period of *** this process,the decrease of the younger generation will further accelerate the demographic aging process through lowering birth *** many studies have qualitatively addressed that demographic aging could be both a result and cause of urban shrinkage,empirical studies to examine their interrelations are *** paper aims to examine their interrelationships by proposing an integrated model which covers the paths,effects,and interrelationships between shrinking cities and demographic aging in economic,spatial,and social *** on the data from 138 county-level cities in China,partial least-square method is used for structural equation modeling(PLS-SEM).The results show that two indirect influence paths exist between shrinking cities and the demographic aging ***,urban shrinkage has an indirect interaction with the demographic aging process via social and economic factors(path:shrinking cities←→society←→economy←→aging process).Second,urban shrinkage is also indirectly interrelated with the demographic aging process in spatial factors(path:shrinking cities←→space←→aging process).To deal with the double challenges of urban shrinkage and demographic aging,planning policies should integrate with policies in socio-economic and spatial aspects.

Knowing the essential blending techniques covered by the insulating oil blending studies is crucial, as evidenced by the findings presented in them. Mapping the pertinent parameters to the corresponding technique is an important step in blending investigation. This thorough but perceptive evaluation relates the results of problems with the mixing procedure on different insulating fluids. The techniques employed in this context offer not only a preview but also specifics on the chosen blending process, important characteristics, intended usage, standards, unique testing, and software. In general, these data are used as a bundle to create new ideas for combining insulating fluid investigations. Future study will focus on using cutting-edge techniques to increase analysis speed through the use of comprehensive tools. This is relevant to the insulating oils that are used in the Distribution Transformer (DT) and the Power Transformer (PT). © 2024 IEEE.

Due to its significance as a functional component in power transformers (PT) and distribution transformers (DT), the dielectric liquid has been the subject of the current study. To create a new dielectric liquid that will outperform its predecessors and uphold the highest standards, dielectric research was conducted worldwide. Under this method additive addition, comparison of various testing, key properties or properties focused, various advantages and disadvantages of the research, target applications, various standards used in the methodology, any other special studies undertaken, and the analysis tool used are all included. The result of these discussions besieges the critical failure elements of the liquid dielectric with novel methods and mitigation techniques. Having known by the facts on the ageing studies on insulating oil, it is ever important to know the key indicators encompassed within this. One of the crucial things in ageing study is to map the relevant parameters with the method which it is related to. Here, in this short review however insightful way is to relate the outcomes of depolymerization of paper insulation during the ageing process on various insulating fluids. In this context, the indicators besieged in the content provides not only a foreknowledge but also details of ageing method adopted, key properties, target application, standards used, special tests and software used. Overall, these data serve as a package to develop new concepts in ageing studies on insulating fluids. The scope for the future research encompasses with state-of-the-art method to improve the speed of analysis via comprehensive tools. This applies to insulating oils used in both the Power Transformer (PT) and the Distribution Transformer (DT). © 2024 IEEE.

The posterior probability of the oil samples - mineral oil (MO), punga oil (PO), and modified punga oil (MPO) - are utilized in this study. The posterior probability of the oil samples is discovered using two classification techniques. Breakdown voltage (BDV), kinematic viscosity (KVIS), dielectric constant (DC), and moisture content were the dielectric parameters employed in this investigation (MC). The classification of clusters and visualization of their 2D interactive effect, visualization of the 3D decision surface at various clusters, examination of Gaussian mixture assumptions, the Q- Q plot, and consistency testing using the Mardia Kurtosis test for linear and quadratic discriminant analyses are the main counterparts of the work. The study's findings show that using the observed dielectric properties of the oil samples, it may be possible to comprehend their subsequent roles. © 2023 IEEE.

Offshore wind energy has drawn significant attention as the global demand for renewable energy increases. For floating offshore wind turbines, the design optimization of mooring systems remains a challenging task. This task typically involves a large design space with various design variables and complex design constraints related to the nonlinear behavior of the floating systems. Consequently, the computational time is quite expensive. In this paper, surrogate models(e.g. Kriging model, ANN model, polynomial response surface model)are employed to establish the correlation between design variables and system response to enhance the efficiency of engineering design optimization and more specifically of the mooring lines design especially when the mooring line is split into multi segments. First, the motion ofthe platform and tension of the mooring lines are obtained based on numerical simulations of coupled dynamic response of floating wind turbines. Second, regression analysis is performed to train various surrogate models using the inputs (mooring design variables) and outputs(system response) from dynamic simulations, thereby establishing an approximate mapping relationship between the input and output data. Four error type methods and training efficiency are used to measure the accuracy and efficiency of the surrogate models respectively. The Kriging model is recommended for its strong capability in capturing nonlinearity, robustness, and high training efficiency. Finally, the mooring system is optimized using genetic algorithms (GA). The predicted outputs are in good agreement with the simulations. Surrogate models enable a fast prediction of system responses for different mooring solutions under survival sea conditions, facilitating the optimization process for floating offshore wind turbine mooring systems. Owing to the simplification of the wind turbine, it is difficult to accurately simulate the interaction between the rotor system and the supporting structure using the decoupling finite element method. Therefore, when using this method for safety assessment and dynamic response research of the offshore wind turbine (OWT), there is a deviation between the simulation result and the real response of the OWT. In this study, an improved decoupled finite element analysis method is proposed based on a theoretical derivation. A simplified finite element model of a 10 MW jacket OWT with an equivalent substructure was established, and the dynamic response of the OWT under wind and waves was studied. By comparing the results of the fully coupled analysis method and the traditional finite element method, the applicability of the traditional finite element analysis method to the dynamic analysis of an OWT under typical winds and waves is discussed. The limitations of using the traditional finite element method to study or evaluate an OWT complex dynamic system were revealed, and the effectiveness and applicability of the improved method proposed in this study were qualitatively and quantitatively verified. Subsequently, based on the proposed improved decoupled finite element analysis method, a numerical calculation corresponding to a fully coupled test was performed. Compared with the numerical results obtained by the traditional finite element method, the improved decoupled finite element method proposed in this study obtained more consistent results with the fully coupled test.
