Textile dyes are dramatic sources of pollution and non-aesthetic disturbance of aquatic life and therefore represent a potential risk of bioaccumulation that can affect living *** is imperative to reduce or eliminate these dyes from liquid effluents with innovative biomaterials and ***,this research aims to highlight the performance of Capparis spinosa L waste-activated carbon(CSLW-AC)adsorbent to remove crystal violet(CV)from an aqueous *** mechanism of CV adsorption on CSLW-AC was evaluated based on the coupling of experimental data and different characterization *** efficiency of the CSLW-AC material reflected by the equilibrium adsorption capacity of CV could reach more than 195.671 mg·g^(–1) when 0.5 g·L^(–1) of CSLW-AC(Particle size≤250μm)is introduced into the CV of initial concentration of 100 mg·L^(–1) at pH 6 and temperature 65℃ and in the presence of potassium ions after 60 min of contact time according to the one parameter at a time *** adsorption behavior of CV on CSLW-AC was found to be consistent with the pseudo-second-order kinetic model and Frumkin's linear isothermal *** thermodynamic aspects indicate that the process is physical,spontaneous,and *** optimization of the process by the Box Behnken design of experiments resulted in an adsorption capacity approaching 183.544 mg·g^(–1)([CV]=100 mg·L^(–1) and[CSLW-AC]=0.5 g·L^(–1) at 35 min).The results of the Lactuca sativa seeds germination in treated CV(70%),adsorbent solvent and thermal regeneration(more than 5 cycles),and process cost analysis(1.0484 USD·L^(–1))tests are encouraging and promising for future exploitations of the CSLW-AC material in different industrial fields.

Bioremediation uses microorganisms to detoxify or remove pollution. This paper reports a study to evaluate the efficacy of removing hexavalent chromium (Cr(VI)) using a metal-resistant bacterium. Molecular identification reveals it to be Staphylococcus gallinarum strain VIII1. This can reduce 100 mg/L of Cr(VI) after 72 h at pH 7 and 30°C. Abatement rate is increased in the presence of glucose, glycerol and copper ions. Immobilised cells in sodium alginate beads showed a high reduction efficiency compared to free cells. Bioreduction by resting and permeabilized cells confirms that this strain removes chromate ions by an enzymatic process. © 2022 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.

Juniperus oxycedrus(***)is a traditional culinary spice and medicinal herb with a longstanding history of ethnopharmacological applications across diverse *** prior research has explored the biological activities and phytochemical constituents of extracts derived from its leaves and seed cones,the present study systematically investigates their mineral and phenolic profiles alongside their multifunctional bioactive *** coupled plasma-atomic emission spectroscopy(ICP-AES)analysis revealed a substantial abundance of essential macro-and ***-phase high-performance liquid chromatography(RP-HPLC)further identified high concentrations of phenolic acids(e.g.,p-coumaric acid)and flavonoids(e.g.,rutin and quercetin).The extracts exhibited potent radical scavenging activity against 2,2-diphenyl-1-picrylhydrazyl(DPPH),robust antioxidant capacity against hydrogen peroxide,and significant inhibition of xanthine oxidase(XO)***,both extracts demonstrated marked antibacterial *** silico molecular docking studies suggested that the antimicrobial activity may stem from the phenolic constituents,which exhibited favorable binding affinities to the active site of bacterial target *** findings underscore *** as a promising reservoir of bioactive natural compounds,warranting further exploration for therapeutic and nutraceutical applications.

Evaluating a workforce development programme: bringing public health into architecture education in England

Architects can play a key role in the wider public health workforce, in ensuring building and urban design is health promoting. However, there is no requirement to teach health by architectural accreditation bodies across Europe. To evaluate the long-term individual and organisational impacts of the Public health Practitioner in Residence (PHPiR) programme–an educational initiative in a British university to help realise the architecture profession’s potential to contribute to improved population health. A longitudinal mixed-methods evaluation using the RE-AIM framework. Data were collected using questionnaires, a focus group, interviews, and programme documentation from a Bachelor of Architecture cohort and stakeholders from 2011 to 2019. Participants developed a broad understanding of the determinants of health, which was maintained when qualified architects. The programme became integrated into the university curriculum. Numerous facilitators and barriers affected the participants’ ability to create healthier buildings in practice. The positive results from this evaluation suggest that there is value in exploring how the PHPiR approach could be replicated in architecture courses within other higher education institutions. Findings highlight barriers in practice to be addressed in the future to help enable architects to create healthier buildings and places. © 2020 Informa UK Limited, trading as Taylor & Francis Group.

This study focuses on assessing the seasonal variation in groundwater quality within the Al-Hoceima region, specifically examining physicochemical parameters and bacteriological indicators of water fecal contamination. The sampling campaign took place during the wet and dry seasons of 2019 and 2021. In situ measurements were conducted on 37 groundwater samples to determine the physicochemical parameters, while bacteriological analyses were performed using Escherichia coli (E. coli) as a fecal contamination indicator. The findings demonstrate significant variations in physicochemical parameters across seasons and reveal fecal contamination of the groundwater, predominantly indicated by increased levels of E. coli during wet periods. Possible contributing factors include water surface runoff and percolation processes. Additionally, the result showed a high concentration of E. coli expected 240 CFU/100 mL. Pollution was higher in the dry season than in the wet season. These results underscore the poor quality of the water in the Al Hoceima region, necessitating treatment before consumption. © 2024 Policy Studies Organization.

In response to mounting challenges posed by climate change, soil infertility, water scarcity, and agricultural pests and diseases, the adoption of innovative cultivation methods becomes imperative. Hydroponics emerges as a promising solution, offering a departure from traditional soil-based approaches by delivering essential nutrients directly to plant roots through nutrient-rich water solutions. This study explores the efficacy of hydroponic systems in addressing water management challenges while leveraging technology to enhance agricultural production. Through a comparative analysis between hydroponic and soil-based cultivation methods, key growth parameters including height, root length, fresh weight, root weight, and leaf number were evaluated for lettuce, basil, and spinach. Additionally, water consumption patterns were assessed to ascertain the water-saving potential of hydroponic farming. Results reveal significant improvements in plant growth and water efficiency in hydroponic systems compared to conventional soil cultivation, with water savings reaching up to 80%, highlighting its remarkable potential for effective water management. © The Author(s), under exclusive license to Springer Nature Singapore Pte Ltd. 2025.

Residual levels of pesticides in filet green beans from Souss-Massa, Morocco

A total of 30 samples of filet green beans (Phaseolus vulgaris) from various popular markets in the Souss-Massa region (Morocco) were analyzed during 2021 for the presence of pesticide residues. We performed a QuEChERS extraction (Quick, Easy, Cheap, Effective, Rugged, and Safe) combined with Liquid Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (LC–MS/MS) and Gas Chromatography-Mass Spectrometry (GC–MS/MS). The method was validated in accordance with SANTE 11312/2021 guidelines. The results of this survey indicated that 8 out of 30 green bean samples are positives (0.015 to 0.112 mg/kg). Azoxystrobin was the most frequently detected pesticide, occurring in 5 samples. For authorized pesticides, none of the samples exceeded the European Maximum residue level (EU MRL) in green beans, but residue of fipronil-unauthorized substance was detected in one sample at 0.027 mg/kg. Hence, it is important to increase inspections for locally marketed fresh green beans and align agricultural practices with regulatory requirements. © The Author(s), under exclusive licence to Springer-Verlag GmbH Germany, part of Springer Nature 2024.

Currently, the convergence of climate change, population growth, and deteriorating water quality has triggered a scarcity of freshwater resources, presenting substantial hurdles for agricultural endeavors. Consequently, repurposing treated wastewater for agricultural use is gaining prominence. This strategy offers a noteworthy advantage by furnishing an alternative water source, distinct from conventional freshwater, for agricultural irrigation. The considered irrigation water categories encompass treated wastewater, sewage treated with supplementary fertilization, treated water of a specific quality, and treated water quality fortified with fertilizer. An assessment of the treated wastewater extracted from the Imzouren-Bni Bouayach treatment facility was undertaken, encompassing scrutiny of its physical, chemical, and bacteriological attributes. This analysis yielded measurements for a range of parameters, including pH, temperature, electrical conductivity, dissolved oxygen, suspended matter, biochemical oxygen demand, chemical oxygen demand, total phosphorus, nitrate, nitrite, total coliforms, fecal coliforms, and fecal streptococci. These measurements align with acceptable thresholds for direct discharge and are following Morocco's established water quality standards tailored for irrigation. In light of the soil analysis, the soil is classified as alkaline, with a pH of 8.2, and displays low salinity, evidenced by an electrical conductivity of 2.42 mS/cm. Furthermore, the soil exhibits deficiencies in organic matter and essential nutrients, with carbon content measuring 0.84%, organic matter at 1.45%, nitrogen at 0.07%, phosphorus at 10.6 mg/L, and potassium at 56.5 mg/L. The utilization of treated wastewater for irrigation purposes bestows the crop with a dependable water supply, ensuring stability in its growth. © 2023 Policy Studies Organization.

This paper presents a computer vision system within a test facility for prosthetic joint inspection and performance by analysing range of motion data. Testing with individuals rather than using a testing facility can cause issues, such as irritation, pain and rubbing of the residual limb. The use of a computer vision system within a testing facility can assess the performance of a prosthetic device by capturing video, images, and calculating angle data for range of motion. Other benefits of using a testing facility include reduced testing times and energy for the end user and the ability to test rigorously. It can be concluded that the computer vision system can capturing accurate angle data for use within the testing facility. However, a discrepancy between 0.55 and 0.6 degrees was found when comparing the angle of the knee joint in the computer aided design model to the built environment. Further development of the code and the use of masking with colour coded targets would result in more accurate angle calculation and automation. © 2021 IEEE.
