Geospatial data and information availability has been increasing rapidly and has provided users with knowledge on entities change and movement in a system. Cellular Geography model applies Cellular Automata on Geographic data by defining transition rules to the data grid. This paper presents the techniques for extracting transition rule(s) from time series data grids, using multiple linear regression analysis. Clustering technique is applied to minimize the number of transition rules, which can be offered and chosen to change a new unknown grid. Each centroid of a cluster is associated with a transition rule and a grid of data. The chosen transition rule is associated with grid that has a minimum distance to the new data grid to be simulated. Validation of the model can be provided either quantitatively through an error measurement or qualitatively by visualizing the result of the simulation process. The visualization can also be more informative by adding the error information. Increasing number of cluster may give possibility to improve the simulation accuracy.

We revisit the L ∞ Hausdorff Voronoi diagram of clusters of points, equivalently, the L ∞ Hausdorff Voronoi diagram of rectangles, and present a plane sweep algorithm for its construction that generalizes and improves upon previous results. We show that the structural complexity of the L ∞ Hausdorff Voronoi diagram is Θ (n+m), where n is the number of given clusters and m is the number of essential pairs of crossing clusters. The algorithm runs in O((n+M) log n) time and O(n + M) space where M is the number of potentially essential crossings; m,M are O(n 2 ), m ≤ M, but m = M, in the worst case. In practice m,M 2, as the total number of crossings in the motivating application is typically small. For non-crossing clusters, the algorithm is optimal running in O(n log n)-time and O(n)-space. The L ∞ Hausdorff Voronoi diagram finds applications, among others, in the geometric min-cut problem, VLSI critical area analysis for via-blocks and open faults.

This paper considers the estimation of reliability and availability of intrusion-tolerant systems subject to non-detectable intrusions. Our motivation comes from the observation that typical techniques of intrusion tolerance may in certain circumstances worsen the non-functional properties they were meant to improve (e.g., dependability). We start by modeling attacks as adversarial efforts capable of affecting the intrusion rate probability of components of the system. Then, we analyze several configurations of intrusion-tolerant replication and pro-active rejuvenation, to find which ones lead to security enhancements. We analyze several parameterizations, considering different attack and rejuvenation models and taking into account the mission time of the overall system and the expected time to intrusion of its components. In doing so, we identify thresholds that distinguish between improvement and degradation. We compare the effects of replication and rejuvenation and highlight their complementarity, showing improvements of resilience not attainable with any of the techniques alone, but possible only as a synergy of their combination. We advocate the need for thorougher system models, by showing fundamental vulnerabilities arising from incomplete specifications.

One of the important critical traffic controller challenges is the management of multi-intersection networks and real-time control system. In this paper, we develop a coordinated traffic signal control system based on a distributed self-organizing control. We propose a new modeling methodology which deals with left-right turns based on traffic signal phasing, multiway intersection and fuzzy logic to adapt the alternation of saturation flow in self-organizing control. We design a simulation which can generate real-time traffic flow sequence. Results show that the performance of the proposed traffic controller is better than the method in conventional traffic or previous model.

In order to improve the lifetime and performance of a hybrid electric vehicle, one of the most challenging tasks is to improve the performance of the electrical energy storage, regarding the electrical power and energy capacity. By introducing a supercapacitor as auxiliary source to increase the system power and to take over the battery stresses, the performance of the combined energy storage unit is improved. This paper introduces a completed model of energy storage system, including a pack of batteries, a pack of supercapacitors and a control strategy. The aim is to discharge the capacitors when the required power from energy storage is above a threshold meaning that the driver needs a boost of power for a period of time. Because of their high density of power supercapacitors have more efficiency in delivering it for short time. This has a positive impact on the fuel consumption and the state of charge at the end of the drive cycle.

This paper deals with the battery life of mobile devices and PDAs at various load levels of the battery. For such testing of PDA battery life, there are many programs in ensuring the current battery status. Our developed appplications can determine the battery at defined time intervals and display its status on the device display in numeric format XX%, where the measured value is stored in an external file in XLS format. Addressing problem is designed to store the measured data of the appplication in tabular form, for better evaluation performance and the subsequent effect on the battery. Testing is focused on the impact of various device appplications, that means from low-end appplications to very demanding appplications with Wi-Fi, Bluetooth, GPS, for the battery status.

The aim of this work is to create application for mobile devices such as PDAs running under Windows Mobile. With this application, and PDA it will be able to process the analog data measured by the A / D converter and display it in graphs. Use of the converter has four analog inputs. These are converted into digital form and transmitted via the communication interface Ethernet to WiFi router. Application running on a PDA uses WiFi connection to download measured data and to processes them. The advantage of this solution is particularly small size and mobility of the PDA. This eliminates the need to transfer the measuring device. This makes a possibility of usage wide especially in the manufacturing industry in the halls where it should be measured in several places at the same time, and the values compared between each other.

Unfortunately, most applications lack quality visual indication of arousal microphone volume, which would clearly provide to users (surveillance) information on current values and, if so achieved within a short past. The usability of applications could be in using it as an acoustic monitoring or as a visual area, or volume level for the detection of a communication program.
