This paper describes the fundamental requirements and expectations for the development of a knowledge based supervisory support system (KBSSS), to provide industrial decision support, for a sugar mill crystallisation stage. This paper puts into context the rationale for such a system. The increasing need and importance of providing industrial decision support in the industrial sugar mill setting are also detailed. The primary topics of this paper will focus upon: (1) a review of sugar mill industrial decision support, (2) unrealized expectations, and (3) requirements for decision support; all pertaining to sugar mill crystallisation stage operations.

This paper addresses the problem of describing and analyzing data manipulation within business process workflow specifications. We apply a model-driven approach. We first augment typical workflow descriptions in Petri nets with ontologies written in the Web Ontology Language (OWL) and constraints written in Deontic Logic. Then we apply a model transformation from these augmented Petri nets to B machines, providing a full formal semantics of our models. A workflow, when represented as a Petri net with ontologies, can then be submitted to behavioural analysis with Petri net tools, and to analysis of data exchange with a B-based theorem prover.

The lower and the upper irredundance numbers of a graph G, denoted ir(G) and IR(G), respectively, are conceptually linked to the domination and independence numbers and have numerous relations to other graph parameters. It has been an open question whether determining these numbers for a graph G on n vertices admits exact algorithms running in time faster than the trivial Θ(2n. poly(n)) enumeration, also called the 2 n-barrier. The main contributions of this article are exact exponential-time algorithms breaking the 2n-barrier for irredundance. We establish algorithms with running times of *(1.99914 n) for computing ir(G) and *(1.9369n) for computing IR(G). Both algorithms use polynomial space. The first algorithm uses a parameterized approach to obtain (faster) exact algorithms. The second one is based, in addition, on a reduction to the Maximum Induced Matching problem providing a branch-and-reduce algorithm to solve it. © 2011 Elsevier B.V. © 2011 Elsevier B.V. Mining of vaccine-associated IFN-γ gene interaction networks using the Vaccine Ontology

Background: Interferon-gamma (IFN-γ) is vital in vaccine-induced immune defense against bacterial and viral infections and tumor. Our recent study demonstrated the power of a literature-based discovery method in extraction and comparison of the IFN-γ and vaccine-mediated gene interaction networks. The Vaccine Ontology (VO) contains a hierarchy of vaccine names. It is hypothesized that the application of VO will enhance the prediction of IFN-γ and vaccine-mediated gene interaction network. Results: In this study, 186 specific vaccine names listed in the Vaccine Ontology (VO) and their semantic relations were used for possible improved retrieval of the IFN-γ and vaccine associated gene interactions. The application of VO allows discovery of 38 more genes and 60 more interactions. Comparison of different layers of IFN-γ networks and the example BCG vaccine-induced subnetwork led to generation of new hypotheses. By analyzing all discovered genes using centrality metrics, 32 genes were ranked high in the VO-based IFN-γ vaccine network using four centrality scores. Furthermore, 28 specific vaccines were found to be associated with these top 32 genes. These specific vaccine-gene associations were further used to generate a network of vaccine-vaccine associations. The BCG and LVS vaccines are found to be the most central vaccines in the vaccine-vaccine association network. Conclusion: Our results demonstrate that the combined usages of biomedical ontologies and centrality-based literature mining are able to significantly facilitate discovery of gene interaction networks and gene-concept associations. In this decade Information Technology Governance （ITG） has become a hot topic between IT based companies. Since ITG status company is referring to an IT matured organization having six principles as expected by ISO 38500, there is no exemplar standard or framework to cover all of them. However, the most widespread existing frameworks in this area are COBIT, ITIL, and CMMI which not necessarily cover all of them. On the other hand, with respect to Small Medium Enterprises （SMEs） limitations, they have some constraints to implement all expected ITG principles by ISO 38500, completely. In this paper, the most comprehensive definition for ITG has presented and those most common ITG frameworks have been discussed（explained）. Later, the SMEs definition and their characteristics have been explored. And lastly the relationship between ITG and SMEs has been discussed.

This work proposes a bit-adjacent Data Background (DB) management scheme to improve fault coverage of March algorithms while simultaneously maintaining the shortest test cycle. Both static and dynamic DB transitions are used in order to detect Deceptive Read Destructive Faults (DRDFs) and Write Disturb Faults (WDFs) that are not detected by previous algorithms. A conventional March Test Algorithm can be modified by using the DB management scheme to form a new March Test Algorithm (referred to as Mod March Test Algorithm), e.g., MATS++(6N) becoming Mod MATS++(6N). This paper shows that Mod March SR (14N) and Mod March CL (12N) can detect DRDFs and WDFs while the corresponding conventional algorithms cannot. It is also shown that Mod March CL(12N) and Mod March SR(14N) with DB management can detect all Static Single Cell Faults based on the Bit-Oriented-Memories (BOM) test method. Comparisons on test cycle time for Mod March SR, March SR, and March SS in the context of memory Built-In-Self-Test (BIST) are also presented. From the simulation result, it shows that by including Data Backgrounds (DBs) management in Bit-Oriented Memories (BOM), the cycle test time is the same after a given multiple of DBs in the test algorithm.

This paper suggests a new stability analysis theorem dedicated to a class of fuzzy logic control systems. The fuzzy logic control systems consist of nonlinear Single Input-Single Output (SISO) discrete-time processes controlled by Takagi-Sugeno fuzzy logic controllers. The stability analysis is conducted on the basis of Lyapunov's direct method with quadratic Lyapunov function candidates. The theorem proves that if the derivative of the Lyapunov function candidate is negative definite in the active region of each fuzzy rule then the fuzzy logic control system will be asymptotically stable in the sense of Lyapunov. Sufficient stability conditions are offered. An example related to the design of a stable fuzzy logic control system for the discrete-time Lorenz chaotic system and simulation results are included. © 2011 IFAC.

Background: Free text is helpful for entering information into electronic health records, but reusing it is a challenge. The need for language technology for processing Finnish and Swedish healthcare text is therefore evident;however, Finnish and Swedish are linguistically very dissimilar. In this paper we present a comparison of characteristics in Finnish and Swedish free-text nursing narratives from intensive care. This creates a framework for characterising and comparing clinical text and lays the groundwork for developing clinical language technologies. Methods: Our material included daily nursing narratives from one intensive care unit in Finland and one in Sweden. Inclusion criteria for patients were an inpatient period of least five days and an age of at least 16 years. We performed a comparative analysis as part of a collaborative effort between Finnish- and Swedish-speaking healthcare and language technology professionals that included both qualitative and quantitative aspects. The qualitative analysis addressed the content and structure of three average-sized health records from each country. In the quantitative analysis 514 Finnish and 379 Swedish health records were studied using various language technology tools. Results: Although the two languages are not closely related, nursing narratives in Finland and Sweden had many properties in common. Both made use of specialised jargon and their content was very similar. However, many of these characteristics were challenging regarding development of language technology to support producing and using clinical documentation. Conclusions: The way Finnish and Swedish intensive care nursing was documented, was not country or language dependent, but shared a common context, principles and structural features and even similar vocabulary elements. Fast access to clinical data is necessary when performing real-time predictions of medical events. A clinical data repository (CDR) therefore requires an efficient format for storing data so it can meet the access demands of prediction algorithms for clinical decision support. We have developed a new hybrid entity-attribute-value (EAV) storage format for CDRs that is compared with the common simple and multidata-type EAV formats. Their performance is evaluated with regard to querying millions of data points from clinical sources to assess the amount of storage space the data use, the speed with which the data can be obtained, and the complexity of the queries required to retrieve the data. Performance results showed that our hybrid EAV approach provides a nice balance of the simple and multidata-type formats that scales well as the amount of data in the CDR increases. The hybrid format is faster, uses less complex queries, and allows the data to remain in its original data type while using the same amount of storage space as the simple and multidata-type formats. © 2011 IEEE.

Human interaction is highly intuitive: we infer reactions of our opponents mainly from what we have learned in years of experience and often assume that other people have the same knowledge about certain situations, abilities, and expectations as we do. In human-robot interaction (HRI) we cannot take for granted that this is equally true since HRI is asymmetrical. In other words, robots have different abilities, knowledge, and expectations than humans. They need to react appropriately to human expectations and behaviour. With this respect, scientific advances have been made to date for applications in entertainment and service robotics that largely depend on intuitive interaction. However, HRI today is often still unnatural, slow, and unsatisfactory for the human interlocutor. Both the sensorimotor interaction with environment and interlocutor, and the social aspects of the interaction still need to be researched and improved. Therefore, this full-day workshop aims to bring together researchers from different scientific fields to discuss these crosscutting issues and to exchange views on what are the preconditions and principles of intuitive interaction.
